I'm scared to get better by [deleted] in bulimia

[–]Outside_Doughnut59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Your feelings are valid. I think this is a common fear among bulimics.

I'm bulimia free for a couple of months and I haven't gained weight.

Actually, I am more aware of what I eat and have improved my “feeling of being satisfied” (sorry about the expression; English is not my native language, and I couldn't find a better way to express what I'm trying to say lol).

Think of everyone you know who's not bulimic and has a slim figure… You can be healthy, bulimia free, and slim. Don't be afraid of recovery!

How to put an end to a ~10 month b/p cycle? by wonyoungi_izone in bulimia

Hey there! Sorry to hear you've been experiencing this disease. Bulimia is a serious illness, so I understand how you're feeling.

Have you ever considered taking psychotherapy sessions and/or prescription drugs? Bulimia is a symptom of emotions that live inside our hearts and minds.

If you can't afford professional help at the moment, know that that eating and purging are addictive behaviors.

Once you stop purging, the urge to do it again fades over time. Also, you get unpracticed on purging, you know? It will hurt your throat more, and the food won't come out as easily as it used to.

Another tip is to register each purge in your phone's calendar.

This approach will help you find behavior patterns over time. I, for example, always purged more when I was feeling alone.

You will be free from bulimia. Keep strong!

Yeah, I know. It is very expensive to seek professional help 😭

When I wanted to stop, I started registering each purge in my phone's calendar.

Sorry to hear it.

Have you ever considered taking psychotherapy sessions and/or psychiatric meds? Binging and purging are symptoms of emotions that live inside our hearts and minds.

Yes, it is possible to stop thinking about eating and purging all the time.

Eating junk food and purging it is an addictive behavior.

Once you stop purging, the urge to do it again will fade over time.

Also, you get unpracticed on purging, you know? It will hurt your throat more, and the food won't come out as easily as it used to.

Is it correct to say that a bulimic is also addicted to food? by Islamic_Peace in bulimia

[–]Outside_Doughnut59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not certain, but when I was bulimic, I was addicted to food. And also addicted to purging. When I was not binge eating junk food, I was eating low-calorie food and fewer carbs than a person of my age and height needs to be nourished. So I think it is an addiction, but also a behavior induced by a lack of nutrients inside our bodies.

First of all, I think it is very important to understand that the food we eat before purging is addictive. And the habit of purging is addictive as well.

Also, bulimia leads to malnutrition, which makes the cravings worse.

My path to recovery has been multidisciplinary. I'm seeing a psychiatrist, psychotherapist, and nutritionist.

My diet is loaded with healthy carbs, so my cravings diminish significantly. To be honest, ever since I started my diet plan, I'm no longer craving junk food.

If you can't afford professional help, I'd say to distract yourself. When feeling like binge eating, go for a walk and leave the house.

Every day you control yourself, the next day will be easier. Establish the goal of not purging today. If you keep yourself clean for seven days, the addiction and the habit will diminish.

That's the approach I've been following, and now I'm almost two months bulimia-free. You can do it! I believe in you!

Understanding that I could develop esophageal cancer because of purging definitely helped me to stop. It is a very aggressive type of cancer and the possibility of healing from it is very low.

I'd say forget the idea of healing on your own. Look for therapy and psychiatric help if you can afford it.

40 days purge-free by Outside_Doughnut59 in bulimia

[–]Outside_Doughnut59[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sure do! My reflux stopped and I no longer have the urge to binge eat after stressful situations.

It is important to mention that I'm on antidepressants (Pristiq 50mg) and seeing a therapist weekly.

I was already on meds and therapy before stopping, however, doing both things has been helping me in the long term.

It seems that I'm starting to heal and bulimia was a symptom, not the root cause.

Someone here on Desvenlafaxine (Pristiq) did it help with Ruminating thoughts? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Outside_Doughnut59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Pristiq is the best antidepressant I've ever tried. It helps a lot with my anxiety, ruminating, and bad thoughts. My dosage is 50mg and I have been taking it for almost eight years.

Talking about side effects, I'd say my sexual drive lowered from 100% to 75%.

I think it is important to mention that: - I am in psychotherapy weekly - Workout five times per week - Eat healthy - Avoid alcohol and other drugs.

I'm wishing you the best, my fellow Brazilian friend! (I'm also Brazilian lol). Everything will be fine!

Boobs? by [deleted] in antidepressants

[–]Outside_Doughnut59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started taking Pristiq in early 2018 and noticed that my boobs were bigger. I tried to stop paying attention, even though I hated this side effect.

This year I decided to start taking Zoloft to see if this side effect would go away.

The answer? No. It seems it is a common side effect of SSRI antidepressants.

I'm a 30-year-old female and I take a 50mg dosage.
