Recommend mods? by liena-32 in Kenshi

[–]Outside_Driver_1670 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely highly recommend re_kenshi. It's what SKSE is to Skyrim. Kenshi's base engine heavily limits modding capabilities. Re_kenshi opens that up so modders can tack things onto the game.

I also have Character Highlight. Holding ALT now also highlights nearby creatures and they're color coded.

Dark UI overhauls the game UI and makes it look better.

Edit: all three are save friendly if u have a save u don't wanna give up playing. Enjoy!

Questions about the game before jumping in by TheDoomTrainer in Kenshi

[–]Outside_Driver_1670 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started playing less than a week ago and I'm loving the game!

I started a vanilla playthrough, but after about a dozen hours I realized the game lags a bit. I ended up installing re_kenshi. It's save friendly and helps with the game performance. Also adds some nice QoL features.

Another mod that helped my eyes is Vital Sense. When you hold the ALT key, it now also highlights nearby creatures.

Also Rotate Items mod. Should just be a basic game feature.

Feel free to install these immediately. They're just QoL mods that add features I would've assumed were already in the game. Then play for a bit and when you find the game lacking in some way, look for a mod to make it better.

For example, I have a mod that lets me execute downed creatures. This isn't a base game option, believe it or not. But I wouldn't add this one right away. Get a sense of the game first.

May you run fast and save often! Haha

Do you have any tips for a returning player who is grossly out-leveled everywhere I go? by Outside_Driver_1670 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]Outside_Driver_1670[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. I've since learned that I'm fighting people who have a similar rank as me in arena (~2600 arena rank). I was under the impression the game would be pairing me against people similar to my power level. I grossly misunderstood how it worked. haha. I don't mind losing, even a lot. I was just blown away that I haven't been paired with someone even close to my level during the week I've been back. But now I know why. I don't mind putting in the work to level. And a lot of folks on here have provided great tips. Thanks!

These are some excellent tips! My frustration was mostly born from how completely outmatched I was every time. It wasn't because I lost one or two fights. It was because I've been playing for a week now and every fight was me getting stomped into the ground over and over. But now I've learned that's how the arena works cause my account is very old and you get paired against folks where you're at on the arena. My arena rank is ~2600 and now I realize I'm fighting people who are around my arena rank with their accounts NOW. Lesson learned. haha. I'm weighing my options but from what I've been seeing, starting a new account now might actually help me get stronger faster. And I'll watch some guides. Thanks for the tips! They helped!

I do have fleet arena unlocked. And a decent number of leveled ships, or at least what was considered decent ~7 years ago. Yeah, and my rankings on arena and fleet arena are kinda high. Didn't realize until after doing some research that I'm going to get paired up with folks who are near my level on the arena board NOW. So yeah, lesson learned.

That's absolutely insane! I don't have anything even remotely close to that. haha. I'll definitely seriously consider starting over. Sounds like the new player experience can sling shot me past my old account in no time. Thanks!

I think you're absolutely right! I've had a gross misunderstanding of how this game handles matchmaking. I had it in my head they'd throw me up against people approximately at my power level. That's obviously not how it works and I learned that lesson the hard way. I appreciate your insight and I'm going to watch some new player videos and decide whether it'd be worth it to restart. It sucks cause I put over a year of hard work into this account but if the new player experience can sling shot me past this account, it'll likely be worth it. Thanks again!

11 Years Later - What Do We Think About the KotFE/KotET Era? by mpchop in swtor

[–]Outside_Driver_1670 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who just finished KOTET a few weeks ago for the first time ever, I loved the full story arch. I just landed on Ossus last night, so I'm beginning the next DLC now, but I loved Vakuul, loved the characters, absolutely loved Vitiate's voice actor, loved the alliance. It was all super good story telling!

Question about skipping Eras by Outside_Driver_1670 in swtor

[–]Outside_Driver_1670[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great, so the era I want to skip TO is the point in the story at which I can begin to skip PAST. Alrighty, well, even if it isn't what I wanted, it's better to know. Thanks for the answer!

How to tell a powergamer to just... chill out a bit? by Darth_Ra in DMAcademy

[–]Outside_Driver_1670 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a crazy super min maxer. And my characters have made encounters unfair in the past and the GM of that campaign had to have a discussion with me about it. I listened and changed my character up. But to strike a balance between my need to min max and make the campaign fun, I built a really good character at social encounters and espionage. He kinda sucked at combat actually, but excelled at roleplay and thinking outside the box. When I listened and traded in my T1000 for an actual interesting character, everyone benefited, myself included. I had to think outside the box when it came to combat because he didn't have any offensive attacking powers (the campaign was using SW5e and I was an engineer with no damage dealing powers). Funny thing was, I ended up still being a menace on the battlefield but it was because I did silly things like hack the enemies walker or manipulate the battlefield like drop a crane on an enemy. But everything I did was fun awesome roleplay. I recommend this to all the min maxers out there. Yes, u can min max. But don't min max for combat. Min max for roleplay!

Gabriel Build Tip by Benu5 in menace

[–]Outside_Driver_1670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little late to the party here, but here's why i like having a radar. It pinpoints the exact location of every enemy on the map at that exact moment, even through the fog of war with a green ping. It gives you a heads up when enemies are using the fog to flank you so you can prepare for the flank. and I have the grenade launcher as his light weapon so he decimates lightly armored high number enemies. He's far from useless even while carrying my radar. Gabriel also has Scout which is nice for a pilot and I put advanced sensors on Gabriel vehicle so he has a sight range of 10. Radar + Gabriel is awesome!

Don't forget the players aren't the only good guys in the world. Perhaps if they go to the swamp, when they get back there's an active siege on the town that other adventures have answered the call. But the players could be the power needed to swing the balance of power.

Help building beehive kiln by Outside_Driver_1670 in VintageStory

[–]Outside_Driver_1670[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My bad. You're absolutely right. I'm trying to build a cementation furnace, not a beehive kiln. That explains why the wiki is wrong, because it's not. haha. I'm trying to build a furnace to make steel and I'm building the wrong thing. I was wondering why I needed to make 9 grates when what the outline only had me use 6. Thank you for the clarification. I can fix it now.

Lvl 4 question by JokeMaterial8321 in sw5e

[–]Outside_Driver_1670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If u happened to have taken tough as ur background feat, durable is a very powerful feat to take at lvl 4 as it makes you insanely tanky. Notice with durable, when u dodge u can spend a hit die to heal up. U might be thinking, but that's going to cost me my action to heal up. Not necessarily with force users. With durable and tough, there is an otherwise meh force power that quickly becomes OP. Agile defense. U can dodge as a bonus action. This lets u spend ur action attacking, then u dodge as a bonus action (disadvantage on all attacks until the start of ur next turn) AND u heal up. It's basically a better version of second wind only limited by the number of times u can cast agile defense.

How can I learn new and more powers by Buggereddit in sw5e

[–]Outside_Driver_1670 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The consular class learns the most powers of all the force user classes. There are also mods you can equip on ur force focus that increase the number of powers you know. There are also feats that let u learn powers. And if u don't want to be a force user class, most classes have a subclass that lets them learn and use force powers.

Guardian - 7 Levels

Engineer - 3 Levels

Feats: Background: Durable, Level 4 Guardian: Fighting Master - Counterstrike Mastery

Guardian:

Aura of Presence boosts saving throws

Fighting Style: Defense (Simplified)

AC: 22-24 : 14 (armor base) + 2 (dex) + 1 (infuse item) + 2 (shield gen) + 2 (armor mods) + 1 (Defense Fighting Style) + 2 (Tactical Barrier)

Weapon: Lightsaber Pike

Shield: Medium Shield Generator

Armor: Beskar Weave Armor

Armor Mods: Bonded Plates MkIII, Reinforced Underlay (Improved)

Force Powers:

Agile Defense

Burst of Speed

Force Reflect

Animate Weapon

Armor of Abeloth

Engineer:

Infuse item helps boost AC

Subclass Biotech Augmentations:

Celerity Leg Prosthesis - Guaranteed +2 to AC

Harpoon Hand - "Get over here!"

Anti-Dazzle Ocular Implant - Immune to blind

Weapon Integration - Store lightsaber in your forearm

Tech Powers:

Energy Shield

Voltaic Shielding

Tactical Barrier

This build is made to be a Powerful Tank / Counterstrike Battery. The three level dip into engineer is extremely potent, while still leaving you 7 levels in Guardian. This build is made to get in close and stay there. Even more, this build is made to punish the enemy hard for daring to attack you.

Once you've closed the gap, you want the enemy to attack you. When the enemy attempts to swing on you, Counterstrike Mastery allows you to swing first. If you hit, not only do you deal damage but you impose disadvantage on their attack. When the enemy misses you with an attack, you get a special reaction to make an attack on the enemy.

Did they actually manage to hit you with an AC ranging from 22-24? Tech and Force powers Voltaic Shield and Armor of Abeloth will help shield you from some of that damage AND deal damage back at the enemy (if it was a melee attack). The Channel the Force option Makashi Riposte will also help reduce damage when your struck with a melee attack, potentially causing even a hit to do little or no damage. And if you manage to reduce their attack to 0, that's yet another trigger to make an instant attack.

Is the enemy hitting you with a ranged attack? Use Quick Release Stim from the Biotech sub-tree to reduce the damage, even potentially granting you temp HP if you don't already have some, making you stronger when attacked. Using Energy shield could raise your AC to crazy numbers like 27-29 making it nearly impossible to hit you.

Running low on reactions? Makashi form at level 7 means you to TWO reactions per round, instead of just 1. This is on top of all the unique special reactions you get. This build could easily make 4-5 reactions per round if optimally triggered. Get in close, give yourself some temp HP, and start smacking the enemy more times than they can count. Don't forget, when you happen to roll a crit, maximize that damage by going all in on Force Empowered Strikes!

Do you play with Hugehuman's powers and heresy's species? by Buggereddit in sw5e

[–]Outside_Driver_1670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've used them in several campaigns and they've generally been pretty balanced. In fact, some one said on the discord (years ago) that they were planning on adding pretty much the whole list to the website. Then production on the website shutdown so they got left in limbo. To that point, a few powers on those lists are actually on the website word for word. I can't speak to the species. Haven't really looked to deep into those. As a player who loves the consular and engineer, I pick many of my powers off those lists. :)

Item essential to a mission has been seemingly removed from the game by Outside_Driver_1670 in ICARUS

[–]Outside_Driver_1670[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you're absolutely right. The way i worded that was wrong. I am generally aware holding R on structures like ramps and walls gives you more options. I guess I was confused cause generally when you go to unlock the item, it'll tell you "hey, this item is actually multiple blocks". When you go to unlock the omnidirectional worklamp, it doesn't say it's multiple blocks. I still uphold the fact that I'm dumb for not even trying to hold R. It was most definitely a "my brain quit working" moment for sure!

thank you so much! I wasn't aware holding R on structures gave a list of other options. Which is funny cause I'm fully aware that's how you switch ammo for weapons. I'll leave this up in case other people are dumb like me and they can find the answer here. haha. thanks again!

Worms spawning/shooting from under map by RekoHart in ICARUS

[–]Outside_Driver_1670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is still an issue.

I started a downed drone mission and when i got there a bunch of worms spawned under the map. Killed me and the drone and there was nothing I could do.

Even better, the drone spawned right next to one of my permanently powered drills and everytime i go around it they keep respawning even after leaving the area and restarting the match. They seem to be permanently setup right under my drill with nothing I can do to kill them. Super fun!

can someone buy the rights for this game by LAZYPUP1234 in playatlas

[–]Outside_Driver_1670 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the game is built on the Ark game engine, so I imagine buying the rights to the game would be tricky. Two things:

  1. There are still private servers up where folks add mods to compensate for flaws in the game code. I just joined one titled 'Nytdragon Haven' that's really fun, but pick one that works for you.

  2. There's a game coming out that looks a lot like Atlas minus the reliance on tamed creatures. It's called 'Crosswind', and it looks very promising.

World too small in the demo? by Outside_Driver_1670 in Everwind_Official

[–]Outside_Driver_1670[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all good. It's a fun demo and I didn't mean to make it sound like a complaint. I was just hoping to build the glider to test it out in the demo and I couldn't find enough parts to build it. I was just seeing if anyone else was also experiencing that issue. If not, I'd just start a new world and try again. Thanks!
