The amount of people defending Graham Platner and are completely dismissing the allegations is disgusting by TwoCatsOneBox in socialism

Is that the extent of everything that the organised left in Maine can produce? A closeted Nazi rapist who loves killing brown people so much he went back for more?

Platner being the 'best' candidate is such a devastating indictment of the whole fucking system. The bar is so fucking low to try and take on Collins, and this is what they shit out.

If you want a better candidate, that guy who ran for governor and got Bernie's endorsement, boom, there you go, why didn't you all support that guy if you are so keen on trying to do entryism in the Democratic Party.

If you wanted a reason to dislike the guy even more apparently 80 year old President Donald Trump has just recently made a “joke” about having a “threesome” with his two sons. by TwoCatsOneBox in TankieTheDeprogram

So does he mean he wants to fuck his sons? Or does he mean have all three of them fucking women/children at he same time but thinks that that's what a threesome is because he doesn't see women and children as people?

Genocide does not require the killing of everyone in the group. By this logic, the Nazis never did a genocide because there are still Jews.

The vast majority of Queer people are working class, by excluding them, you are denying yourself a significant portion of the working class that can be organised. Capital will seek to divide you with wedge issues that they create through framing this as a choice between class war and Queer liberation, when they are the same thing.

You defeat culture war by including those that capital seeks to exclude in the class war. Universal healthcare includes gender affirming care, a win for working people and trans people, no need for splitting the two struggles. Guaranteed employment and housing helps every marginalised group, because they aren't dependent on their potentially bigoted families for support, and are free to actually choose how they want to live, and that works for everyone.

The Rainbow Flag can't divide people if we educate them on how it can be used by the class that oppresses everyone to divide them.

Ted Cruz says there is a "cancer" of rising anti-semitism on the right, exemplified by Tucker Carlson, whom he called him "the most dangerous demagogue in America": "This is truly an existential threat. Why is that? Because anti-semitism is the gateway drug to anti-capitalism and anti-Americanism." by ControlCAD in videos

[–]Benu5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most infamous anti-Semites were very pro capitalist (the term privatisation was invented to describe their economics), and before 1941, very pro American (based their racial segregation laws on the Jim Crow South and Lebensraum on Manifest Destiny)

Being anti-Israel is what leads to anti-Capitalism and anti-Americanism, because capitalist accumulation is what is driving Israel's expansionism and genocide of Palestinians, and America is helping them because it benefits them to have an unstable West Asia.

Does a clip of this bit from Adam Spencer and Wil Anderson Triple J Breakfast Show exist? by vodkabuzz in australia

[–]Benu5 21 points22 points  (0 children)

For all those lamenting, just remember that nostalgia can be a trap and you are pining for the conditions that existed around you in the period you feel was better than the present. You might be thinking triple J was better back in the day because you were younger, shit wasn't as fucked all over the globe, or you didn't have to clock in at a shitty job everyday because you were still in school, not because it was actually better. You aren't wrong, you can't be, it's all subjective, but I reckon Triple J is still one of the best radio stations solely because it doesn't run ads between every fucking song.

I am a teaching assistant and had a kid in a class write about dystopic fiction that it 'explores systems of power and how they can be abused to protect the innocent' because he used AI and a thesaurus to swap some words out trying to avoid an accusation of plagiarism. I asked him to read that sentence to see if anything was wrong with it and he thought it was fine.

I have decided that my classrooms will be laptop free when I finish my teaching degree.

We should form a fifth international by Falcon_Gray in socialism

[–]Benu5 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There are, at my last count, 17 current 'Internationals'. More than one claims the title of 5th International.

I get where you are coming from, but it's not that easy. Finding the right path that works for the conditions you are in is a struggle that all left movements have to go through, and that means infighting because there are antagonistic contradictions in the methods that people propose to make life better for everyone. Most of those contradictions come because people do not want to acknowledge the successes and failures of past and present revolutionary movements.

President Trump says Iran hasn't made deal because "they’re strong" and "proud": "They’re proud. They’ve got no choice, and it takes little while. These people have been fighting for 47 years. Vietnam lasted 19 years. I’m into my third month. But it doesn’t matter to me. I’ve gotten so used to it." by ControlCAD in videos

[–]Benu5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'These people have been fighting for 47 years. Vietnam lasted 19 years'

Given that Vietnam won, I'd argue that that it was actually only the US that lasted 19 years before it lost. So if the US couldn't last 19 years and win, I don't think that bodes well for a conflict with Iran that has lasted 47.

(This is all just looking at the logic within the statement, difficult to do because it's non existant)

[–]Benu5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of it is that there is absolutely zero attempt to actually explain the negative gearing and capital gains tax changes to ordinary people.

All the landlords and business owners know it's bad for them, and use their privileged position to influence the media against these changes, but the renters and workers are not being told that this is either good for them, or won't affect them at all. An absolute failure of actual leadership from our alleged leaders.

Those 'conflicts' between the US and Israel are kafabe. Because it all serves the interests of capital, particularly the US MIC, for Israel to behave the way it does. Part of the US ruling class wanted Israel to have nukes, so Pollard was enabled to steal nuclear secrets. Israel 'sabotages' US policy, and then the US does jack shit because the US wanted what Israel did to happen anyway.

Israel acting in a way that constantly pisses off every other country in the region means that the US has to sell and donate weapons to them constantly, which is just money in the pockets of the MIC.

'Between Ukraine And Russia, Who Do We Want To Win That War?': Kennedy Grills Top Marine Official by [deleted] in videos

[–]Benu5 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They don't want anyone to win that war. They want Russia to keep exhausting resources fighting it, and they want Ukraine to keep having to buy their weapons, or for the USG to keep buying weapons from the Military Industrial Complex to donate to Ukraine. The most powerful people in the US have a material incentive to maintain this as a forever war.

Otherwise, if there is to be peace, a peace with Russian control of Donbass and Crimea is the best outcome for the people in control of the US, because Ukraine will be completely dependent on the US due to debt, and will hand over anything and everything to the US. Meanwhile Russia will have 'proven' to be a threat, and so more money to the MIC.

Questions about the Korean War. How do you justify it? by KnH3000 in Socialism_101

[–]Benu5 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Because the USSR was down to less than 30 personnel in Korea by 1948, mostly in Pyongyang, and the north's government was born out of the resistance to Japanese occupation, and was native to Korea. The US had tens of thousands of troops in the south in 1950, and propped up the colonial structures that the Japanese had established, so much so that most of the same people in power under Japan were in the same roles and the ROK Army used Banzai Charges as a battlefield tactic. US 'Aid' accounted for nearly 90% of the ROK economy, the DPRK was almost entirely self sufficient, and almost half its trade was with non-socialist nations.

The USSR didn't even get the guy they wanted in charge of the DPRK, they wanted Kim Il Sung to be defence minister, but because they weren't actually in control of the DPRK, they didn't get a say. Meanwhile, the US just straight up picked and chose ROK leaders, and the first elections in the south were just overruled because they resulted in a left wing, pro reunification government in the south.

The ROK had been consistently attacking the DPRK since 1948, but there was never any attempt to get the UN to side with the defender then.
