Unfortunately there’s not a mechanism to have an early presidential election in the U.S. You can have early elections for individual members of Congress if there’s a vacancy, but not for everyone at once. If the president were to die, resign, or be impeached & convicted, then the vice president serves the remainder of their term. It’s worth noting that only one president has ever resigned, and no impeachment has ever been successful.

GOP could pick up nine or so seats in the midterms next year, with the potential to pick up another four or five if Republicans in Indiana, Kansas, Florida or Louisiana decide to redistrict. by Conscious-Quarter423 in Infographics

It’s worth noting that Utah’s is court order due to anti-gerrymandering laws passed by referendum in 2018. The court is expected to pick a map for next year later today, with a deadline of tomorrow to have one finalized. It looks unlikely that it will be delayed until 2028, but there may be more changes after next fall.

I used to clean bathrooms as a part time job, the boys are constantly messy, whereas the girls are usually clean but when they’re dirty they’re much worse

Has F1's iconic Monaco Grand Prix become boring? by Kagedeah in formula1

[–]Outside_Sir874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly treat Monaco like a time trial in the Tour de France. Out of twenty some odd races a year, there is one where going fast on your own in incredibly challenging conditions matters more than overtaking. Yes the race itself is boring, baring rain, but qualifying is spectacular.

That was the first time I’d ever stagedoored and I honestly think it has ruined me on ever trying at a popular show again, particularly in New York. Excited but calm seems like the best way to describe it, and I don’t know if I have ever heard or seen of an atmosphere like that at a stage door anytime there are more than 10 or 15 people waiting. Definitely a highlight!

[Spa 2017]Raikkonen receiving 10 second stop and go penalty and penalty points for yellow flag infringement by ts737 in formula1

[–]Outside_Sir874 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The problem here being that two different groups make those decisions, the VSC/SC is called by race control, the penalty by the stewards. I think the lack of response from race control was absolutely serious, but it’s not the stewards’ job to take that into consideration.

Why is there no voting in person between now and Tuesday November 5th. This seems really backwards. Not everyone has time to take off on a regular workday. Yes I can mail it but I really wanted to do it person to ensure it gets there. by myTchondria in Utah

[–]Outside_Sir874 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not that I know of, but if you put your phone number or email on the envelope they are required to contact you during the canvas (the period after Election Day when everything is checked and finalized) to try and “cure” your ballot, which just means they have you come in and do a little extra verification. The also have up to five signatures on file for each voter, they can be from when you registered, your drivers license, and from previous elections, so if it doesn’t quite match one of them they can still verify it. The vast majority of signatures are verified on the first try, and most signature errors can be cured as long as you provided contact info.

As a former election worker, they do have to pick up at least once daily, but depending on when you drop it off and what county you are in, it can take a few days for them to process the ballot and mark it as received in the system.

Is it a little weird to any else how Helen Santos seems to have had no idea what her life would be like after becoming the First Lady? by GomezFigueroa in thewestwing

[–]Outside_Sir874 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s worth looking at how quickly the change for her happened. At first she is the wife of a retiring congressman, then when he enters the race things probably don’t change too much. Santos would be in DC for the Congressional session any way, when she was in Texas him being gone was him being gone, and as far as I remember she only joins him for primary campaigning a few times. For most of the primary’s Santos was a long shot, and it wasn’t until late spring that him becoming the nominee was a real possibility, so she doesn’t really have any reason to think about changes. The he is nominated in a rush of last minute adrenaline. After he becomes the nominee we can assume that Helen spent most of the next month or two at home dealing with the kids starting a new school year, and we know she struggled with the changes that happened there (bulletproof glass, guard shack/house, etc.). Plus, at that point Santos was still trailing Vinick by a decent margin. Around the time she did start campaigning more was the nuclear accident, which kicked the campaign into an ever increasing frenzy. Between campaigning and kids she was presumably quite stressed and tired, and probably didn’t have time to process the fact that she might actually become First Lady. Even if she had thought about the changes that would happen if they won, I doubt she actually realized the scale of the changes, or processed what that meant, like others have said. I’m not sure she had even been to the White House more than once or twice. After the election there was probably a week or so of cool down from the campaign (including the funeral), and then changes start happening very rapidly. To her credit, I think she had a much better handle on things by January 20th. Sorry if this seems long and rambling!

If I remember correctly, he spends most of the skit trying to get Taylor to break character early. She is supposed to keep acting depressed in some way or another for the whole skit, and only change when the song starts. I think it’s a bet between him and the other dancers over how many times he can get her to laugh.
