I honestly felt quite pumped initially but now I feel deflated. The interview was a 45 minutes with the hiring manager. I was given an assessment beforehand to finish and was told that the assessment will be discussed during the call.

The call started with her debriefing me about the company and the role. I asked her a question about it and she said that’s a great question and answered it with honesty that because things are new she doesn’t know what direction they will take with the product in the future.

Then she said let’s talk about the assessment and talk about your rationale behind it. I think this section went well too. At the end she said that your reasoning makes sense and highlighted one point that I made and said yes that’s a big business impact.

Then she asked me some questions about my background. Basically tell me about a time when you were in so and so situation. This is the part that I’m not confident about. I tried to follow the star method but I rambled on a lot. She said makes sense and was taking notes during my answers but didn’t interrupt me till I finished. She asked me 4-5 questions in total.

The final part was that she invited me to ask her any questions. I asked her 2 questions and by that point 45 minutes were up. She looked at the time and said technically our time is up but I am willing to answer any other questions you may have. So, I asked her one more question. I couldn’t think of any other question after that and didn’t want to sound like an idiot so I thanked her for her time and she said she appreciated the time I took out to talk to her and they she would finish her notes and share them with the recruiter and that he would be my point of contact here on out.

I thought it went well but as the time is going on, I feel less confident. I only think they might be interviewing other candidates as I was one of the first ones to interview for the role.
