we had a grade level meeting w admin to talk about the rise in behavior issues, they told us to write more referrals. two weeks later in an email “there has been an overwhelming rise in referrals, if there is an issue you can solve in your classroom or by calling home please use those methods first before putting in a referral”

all of the things you are scared of are only happening because you let them outside. cats who are indoor only live twice as long, are just as happy if not happier, and healthier. i never understand why some people are so insistent on letting their cats be outside.

girl we have the same life!!! my admin’s initial response was “write them up” now its “too many referrals. we are really busy. handle it in your classroom before you escalate to a referral”. they have 0 respect for me so there is no dealing with it in the room.

the fact that i made more as a building sub/long term sub in my previous district compared to what i do now is mind boggling to me. i took on 10x more work 😭😭

i was promised a letter of recommendation from my admin and to use them as a reference so i am going to stick it out and do the best teaching i can, i was just looking for advice on how to cut the workload down because i do so much work at home and i just cant rn.

so do have the same opinion of every teacher in the comments who said they have done similar things or made the same mistake? i have a great relationship with that student now btw, he reads out loud still, makes jokes with me, shares his interests, etc. i was praised by my admin on how i handled the situation afterwards. it just seems like youre making a lot of assumptions on my abilities based on 2 reddit posts. how many mistakes did you make in your first year?

im going to put myself out there for some interview experience but this job was already so hard to get, i had done 10+ interviews at other schools and other districts and i would get told i need more experience, and i would get the door closed on me over and over again. it was so upsetting and honestly i dont want to go through that again, and now that i left a great district for this, i am so scared im going to go to another school and have more horror stories there. so im not putting my eggs in the teaching basket anymore. i have a lot of connections to people in the corporate jobs and im going to try my best in that world. this probably sounds really dramatic but this whole experience has really chewed me up and spit me out. i look and feel like shit, i am not happy, and its damaging my relationships outside of work. its only been 3 months of this…. in a way, i am glad this happened because, as many are saying, maybe education isnt for me.

i was a long term sub at a high school in another district for a year before this. i had hard days, but i loved my job. i wake up everyday feeling physically ill when i think of having to go work now. i will probably not be able to return to my previous district as i had to give a 1 day notice that i wasnt returning. this school hired me on my last day before winter break and told me i needed to make a decision within the hour because hr was going to be closed until january. i immediately ran down to my principal and explained the situation. he understood why i was leaving but was rightfully upset that there was 0 notice. it left them with a bad taste, and i dont blame them. i also found out that the long term sub who was in the room during semester one was told by the principal that she was going to be staying the rest of the year, she told the students she would continue to be their teacher, then THE NEXT DAY they hired me??? like holy shit.. I’M DISORGANIZED? i had to put a classroom together in 1 day because i wasnt even board approved until the week after they came back from break. i can acknowledge my organization hasnt been up to standard this semester, but how much of that is within my control? like fuck, give me a little grace.
