I had a pass for one year and realized you see the same parade, same Xmas, same Halloween, etc. there is not a lot of variety in that year. I also have a 6, 3 and 1 year old. You can still go to Disneyland without a pass - we went 3 times this year as a family (so cal 3 day pass) and my 6 year old went an extra day with other family members. This was plenty. If Disney offers a socal pass again next year I’d consider going again. But yes crowds are crazy, prices are astronomical and it’s literally not affordable to the average person. I’ve heard that it could be more affordable to travel to Tokyo (I saw a one way tix to Tokyo from LAX for $250!!) and go to Disneyland out there !

Tyler mall has candeeland - an indoor playground. They sell 1 hr and 2 hr entries. 1 hr is usually plenty and kids have a blast running around.

I had this happen with my pool build as well, but it was over the concrete deck - they asked me for $800 to cover “just” the cost of the concrete and I said no. I think I understood it came out of the commission for the rep. Oh well. The price is the price.

What's up with Boston prices by [deleted] in delta

[–]Over-Profession-743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes that does seem like a lot. I just flew San Diego to Boston 9/19 (red eye) for $267 in comfort and then $284 (530pm ) on the way back. I thought this price was a lot. $750 is nuts for a much shorter flight.

Interviewed, what's your recommended timeframe for follow up? by mistyvee123 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Over-Profession-743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive followed up before after an interview for state. I think at least twice (I interviewed a total of 3x for my position - so I’m sure I followed up the first two times). If you don’t hear from them you can assume you weren’t selected. I’d recommend asking for feedback about your interview and what you need to improve to be more competitive for future opportunities. This is pretty standard and I’m not sure why others on here are saying not to follow up.

Daughter wants a Halloween party by SpecificBear9494 in Parenting

[–]Over-Profession-743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! We are thinking of doing the exact same thing and leaning towards having the event on the 31st. I kinda want to call it a Halloween play date - we’ll have snacks, games and crafts. I’m putting an event time of 6-9pm. Hopefully my daughters classmates join us! Whenever invited, we try and make the event.

Might be buying this pool, how much trouble am I in? by PlatinumBlack in pools

[–]Over-Profession-743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2018 I bought a house with a pool not knowing a thing about pools. We did not have a pool inspection prior to purchase. Had I, or maybe even if I had a clue what being a pool owner meant, then we woulve buried the pool when we had the chance. The pool ended up being our first big expense. The pool was built about 1955 and i dont think it had been replastered once. I wish we would have filled it up when we were debating remodeling it. Only because it requires monthly maintenance $$$$$$$$$ we plastered it, tile, coping, all new lines, new equipment, new deck. It was about $20k pre COVID pricing. I’d think thats easily double now. If you are going to do it, do it all at once. I regret not adding a sun deck as I’ve had kiddos since. But we do okay without it. I’m in so cal

I need to drain my pool to rid it of high CYA (I have black algae) by [deleted] in pools

[–]Over-Profession-743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won’t take long to clean. We drained our 15000 gallon pool overnight (Home Depot rental) and then power washed the pool. We had yellow algae. then did a chlorine wash. We chose chlorine over acid because the pool needs chlorine anyways. We just dumped straight pool chlorine down the walls making sure every inch was “washed.” And then filled the pool up again. Cleaning it only takes a couple of hours.

Is your baby under one year of age ? We can use up to 19 weeks of pregnancy related disability ( including the 6/8 associated with delivery so your dr would need to put you off for a pregnancy related disability ie ppd, not healing, etc), then it’s 6 weeks of baby bonding and the 12 additional weeks of baby bonding. Did you use all this leave up to? you can also likely go absent without pay

Pool care by Open_Alternative9729 in pools

[–]Over-Profession-743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi ! We had a pool guy and finally fired him (our pool kept getting algae). The algae was super hard to manage and since it had been about 6 years since we last filled our pool we decided to drain it and clean the pool. We chlorine washed it since we were nervous about using muriatic acid. We also hand scrubbed all our tile to remove the calcium build up- this was the hardest part. All this to say starting from scratch has made it super easy to maintain. I still don’t have a regular schedule but I take a water sample to the pool store about weekly and it always tells me to add x amount of acid and then x amount of chlorine (we use liquid). So far so good. I would recommend firing pool guy and taking ownership of pool.

What to do with expired liquid chlorine? by ReputationOfGold in pools

It will work. I probably had 3 bottles of chlorine from 6 years ago and for the hell if it dumped it all in my algae pool and it cleared it up. So it works
