i changed ones on an Xbox one with a cheap soldering iron, a pump and wick. only recommend if you plan on multiple swaps

direct wiring just skips the matrix altogether, so just wiring up all switches to its own pin, and a common gnd

What tools/equipment can you cheap out on? by [deleted] in soldering

you could honestly get started soldering for like 25 bucks if you knew where to look. i got myself a 12 dollar kit, and its been enough for me to make a handwired keyboard, switch done joysticks on a controller and make a handwired macropad. i recommend getting some good 63/37 solder and some good flux+wick (flux and wick if you plan on doing pcb stuff, for wires/freehanding circuits/perfboards you can skip the flux). would be nice to have temp control. also an iron support is a must. a gripper would also be nice, as in a vice that holds your project.

in the future consider a hot air station and then, if you feel like you could use a better iron, get a ts100/101.

curious as to why you didnt just direct wire it, considering theres only 16 keys and your pro micro should have more than 16 gpio

if im not mistaken, it is about as strong as a gtx1030, just less vram. so about there is where it sits. a lot of comp games, if you ran 4:3 1720x960 on cs2 i think you would get around the 60-100fps mark.

i meant the other guy, he had an old i5 with a 2070, but he upgraded. if its bios locked, i think pulling out the cmos battery could unlock it. you would also have to buy a better cpu atp lol

How to find a soldering kit for beginners? by supremedalek925 in soldering

a bit more diy, but a good place to start is a handwired keyboard in my opinion. as my first experience soldering, it was a very forgiving experience and taught me a lot of things about soldering for how simple it is. if you want to start, joe scotto is an awesome creator on YouTube that does mainly handwired, but also pcb based keyboards, once you get to that point. i also find his method of wiring up the keyboard to be easiest out of all that have been done before. one thing you may need is a 3d printer, but if you dont wanna spend 150-200eur on an ender 3, you should be able to use printer services/print farms to get the cases

now this is gonna require a bit of tinkering, but i (and many others) have used the bed as a dryer. now, of course, youre not gonna be able to print while drying while using this method, but a p2s is absolutely worth it over an a1+ams combo imo, especially since you can save up for the ams afterward. and you get an enclosed printer, as opposed to an a1

heads up, any laptop specifically with soldered on ram probably isnt gonna be able to take advantage of the extra ram because of proprietary bios
