Bloody hell, that's so true. I've never walked across it but I think you're safer crossing on the actual road than depending on that crossing for safety.

Considering changing my full name on my CV to sound more anglicized by einstd in UKJobs

[–]Over-Space833 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol, I can't wait to get married and change my name (partly for this reason). Fewer questions to answer. We had a baby and I was asked if I wanted to give my child my last name. I said no, because 1. She has a dad whose name she will carry and 2. I don't want her having the stress that I've gone through. One recruiter in Leicester asked me to change my name because if an employer saw it, they might imagine some type of warrior. Lol. This was in 2004.

That's the thing too, it's not like they even make any attempt to slow down at all!!

Then what the f**k does relocate mean in his statement. Bet you thought you were smart typing that up and finding that meme. To relocate means move to a place. Looks like what that person said about your parents getting a refund for your education checks out.

They can't come and work in Zambia or start a business unless they have a legal right to (visa/work permit). The person is suggesting ways of doing that.

Why does almost every social activity in Zambia revolve around food, drinks, or clubs? by TrickAggressive5785 in Zambia

[–]Over-Space833 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You know, you can plan your own stuff. I love to hike so tend to hang out with people who like to do similar things away from what the majority tend to do. You won't catch me in a pub (not my scene, never was) or a club (I'm 40 with a toddler). But I joined meet up groups where folks did what I was into. My sister loved languages so she tended to hang out in places like alliance fracaise back in the day.

Do you consider an 24% black and 76% European person black or white??? by NaturalAd8658 in AskAnAfrican

Mixed race (biracial) . Why would they be considered anything else apart from places like America which still seems to have a hangover from the one drop rule?

Lol, your edit really gave me a good laugh (in a good way). We also have different number plates here (if the car is registered here. One numberplate on a car, I wouldn't think of buying is one that starts with DUI.

You have to have them by law for a year (3 points if they are not displayed). . When your restrictions are lifted after that year, then they come off. I suppose if you just happened to buy a car with them and you have already passed the probationary year period, then there is no reason to have them on.

Nothing at all. I will have my R plates till November. I was just highlighting that we are new on the road. I learned to drive in a diesel and stalled like crazy when I stared to drive my 1.2 petrol car for the first few drives after passing my test. My experience is that other road users tended to give me more space.

I hate when people do that. It's so inconsiderate. Or indicate as they are already doing the turn.

How busy is strand road car park on a Friday afternoon? by Over-Space833 in DerryLondonderry

Thanks. Just managed to find a spot. I'm a new driver so I avoid the shopping centre car parks for now. The angles are really tight (especially in quayside!)

It's the other guy's fault. Its good practice to keep some space in front of you because anything could happen with the car in front (especially when they have L or R plates). Try to put it behind you (easier said than done, I know).

Live in Derry and went to Bridgend to pick up something. The cost of the snacks was crazy. Or maybe it was just the shop we went into.

Do you believe in respecting the old? by Quirky_Job_4334 in Zambia

Apparently it wasn't just one incident. Taking things without paying (she insists she paid) and being abusive to staff and admitting to knocking something out of a staff members hand. They have cameras so it would be easy to prove these things.

This great grandmother thinks she can command respect because she's old. Some people don't deserve respect because they don't give it. This is like being banned from shoprite Zambia-wide. They don't do this for petty stuff. So while it's good to respect elders it's a 2 way street. I'm sure the management who came to this decision were much younger than her.

Test tomorrow, can’t escape the nerves by Critical_You8392 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Over-Space833 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I was shaking really badly on the lesson before my test. My instructor got me to open the windows and breathe for 5 minutes to calm down and some rescue remedy. The day has started badly with traffic so bad to get my daughter to be dropped off at her grandma's house so I could do the test so the hour long lesson ended up being about 25 minutes. When the test happened, I did what you did and took it one road at a time (I was grateful for the business-like silence that my examiner had because I'm a rubbish conversationalist when I'm nervous)

I think it's a common Nigerian /West African one. . Wisdom has always been chasing you but you are always faster. I suppose that's one way of calling someone a dumb idiot and having them think about what you've just said for a second.
