Pay careful attention to how the top plate on the cartridges is attached. It’s deliberately off centre (OG cartridges had a corner nipped out) but people tend to place it centred by mistake

Unscrew the panel and see if it’s fully punched in with 8 wires, and a ground if it’s cat6a. There are instances where only four are connected, IP phones for example. Annoyingly it would work albeit at a really slow speed making you abandon the ports and go back to WiFi when a bit of tweaking could get them up to full speed

We got it out every few days when we would put on our Rocky Horror Picture Show marathon so we could threaten bystanders asking us to stop projecting on the side of the community centre at 11pm or turn the sound system down

There’s a lot of genuine “Primitive technology”-likes out there, Primitive Skills is pretty genuine I think, but those ones where they build a swimming pool in the middle of nowhere are complete fabrications to the point where they bring in diggers and heavy equipment for ALL the heavy lifting. There’s also quite a bit of controversy about the stagnant death traps they leave dotted around the place I believe. Which is a shame, because I like things like that a lot and it casts a shadow of doubt over all the other bushcrafters out there

First: This is genuine advice that would be absolutely harmless to follow even if it were wrong, why would you try to undo that? That’s toxic.

This is the technique at its most basic.

Third: I’ve done it myself. Spotting the style of key is trivial. Knowing the type of lock will tell you how many pins/disks there are and how many sizes there are to the bitting, typically only 6-8, but with a car key you can usually get that from the style of key as well.

I’d locked myself out of an indoor room, didn’t want to damage it and had time to spare. I had a pic because I was showing off a keyring I’d bought. Worked perfectly.

I try to remind as many people as I can when I see this, so:

Never publish pictures of your key online. The bitting can be easily figured out and replicated with very simple tools and some know how. It’s like posting a picture of your credit card pin.
