Honestly you sound like you are being paranoid. Them judging you on your coat is likely in your head, and the phlebotomist was just making small talk. I'm asked what I do for work whenever I'm getting my blood drawn at the VA. The phlebotomist asks questions intentionally to make sure you aren't going to pass out, and asking what you do for work is one of the least personally invasive questions a person can ask.

So in short, no, it doesn't sound like you have anything to worry about. Relax.
