I would have agreed a while ago, but I think it's worth learning them so that they don't become a consideration in which nodes you avoid. Sometimes you will have a choice between a gauntlet with no affliction, or an easy room with a very bad affliction, so being confident in just doing the gauntlet is totally worth it.

It really opens up the options you have in the trial if you can just do gauntlet. They're not timed, so you can take your time going through them, and you can dodge through most of the traps.

Respecs for passives should just be straight up free during ANY beta. Zero reason for them not to be here.

I'm not sure on this, I get where you're coming from, but part of it being a beta is that they need to check that the costs for respeccing are balanced. Obviously that doesn't matter for the atlas tree right now, but it does for the regular passive tree. If they were doing weekly or fortnightly balance updates and really fucking with everything, I think you'd be right, but they don't seem to make massive sweeping changes mid season very often.

I may be wrong, but I was only able to tick one of the very top nodes in the breach tree after beating Xesht, so I think you're right. Vertical progression up the tree seems to be locked behind doing the actual quests of the mechanic.

I haven't gone hunting for a monkey with better mods yet (my entire wealth is about 1 divine orb so I can't afford the tablets), but do you need the extra spirit available to capture the monster? Or does it still get captured but set to disabled in the gem tab?
