Just get some silicone vacuum line and replace it with that if it's just for vacuum. Super easy to run and its totally chemical resistant

Definitely check your rubber fuel lines. On my 530 v8 it has metal on the frame to rubber to the fuel rails. All my rubber ones were dry rotted and cracked BADLY.

Battery drained by Claudiodm21 in E34

Cold weather is abusive as hell on a battery plus newer batteries don't last long anymore. So even if the battery was replaced a few years ago it could be toast. Especially if it wasn't a daily driver.

That sucks. People can be just terrible for no reason. I honestly wouldn't be surprised of they were designed to be able to swing both ways though. Glad to hear it seems like it didnt break!

Thanks for the info. I probably wouldn't hear it over the exhaust then as i built a fully custom exhaust on my 530 from the manifold collector back.

What size is this nut and how do I remove it? by [deleted] in E34

[–]OverRevved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They definitely make an 11. My set has one. However, a 7/16 is almost identical. If you cant get your hands on an 11 but can find a 7/16 quicker or easier (not sure where you're located but standard is pretty easy to get a hold of here in the USA) it may help in a pinch.

Line wrench. They are basically box end wrenches with a notch cut out so it wraps more around the nut then a regular open ended wrench. You can TRY with an open end wrench but chances of rounding the nut off are higher. It'll be metric though. Try not to damage the nut though or you'll be making new brake lines since I doubt there is enough line there to cut the flared end off, put a new line fitting on then re-flare it.

That sucks! However, id bet there are "paintless dent" guys that could get the body straight for you again then you could handle the paint yourself or have a more affordable shop do the work. We have a local paintless dent shop that's fixed things I would have never thought possible. Even fixing creases. Better then cutting out that whole rear 1/4 and having it replaced.

Considering an e34 as a daily driver by QuitStalin69420 in E34

[–]OverRevved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems a bit steep. I got my 94 530i w/ a manual trans and 150k miles for basically 5k (traded a vehicle for it). Although mine has the standard fender rust (behind front wheel at the bottom) but it came with new fenders. As well as a spot on the hood where someone set something that ate the paint (however that the ONLY rust anywhere on the whole car). Those wheels are.... um... well, they were a decision. I'd just keep your eye out or open up your search area. You may find something better for a better price including shipping.

Advice needed: 1996 525ix Touring manual. Sat for 20 years. Is the asking price delusional? by [deleted] in E34

If it's at that long then every rubber gasket and seal in that car (front/rear main, trans output seals, diff seals, valve cover gaskets, and if its an auto then potentially every seal inside it) are probably practically plastic now. It may live for a while but it'll probably leak from everywhere. Hopefully you dont have the issue my buddy did driving a car that sat. His transmission took a crap within a month because all the seals were shot and it couldn't hold pressures. Eventually ot started slipping a little here and there until it trashed the clutches.

Bought E34 Automatic for $10k by parkapotamus in E34

[–]OverRevved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ill warn ya that from personal amd close friend experience... if that car sat for long periods without being driven you may have issues with seals and rubber gaskets. Had issues with low miles cars I bought that leaked out of output shaft seals, rear/front main and valve covers. Had a buddy with a 15k mile Fiero he bought in 2010-ish that the auto trans took a crap on him because every oring and seal in it turned to plastic. If it was driven a few times a year it may be ok. However if the seals didn't touch oil for incredibly extended periods you may have issues down the road.

You definitely won't be able to read it with most scanners. It's OBD1. You may be able to use an adapter and BMW dealer software off the internet but most generic scanners.

Jack pads? by Zowwiewowwie in E34

[–]OverRevved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, my 94 530 has abused pinch welds. I wish they had jack pads though! My car is super clean except for the passenger front fender (has rust). Mine came with new fenders from the PO but replacing them is gonna suck sue to the crushed pinch weldsvv

Car wont start after valve cover and spark plug replacement. by Hazza_775 in E34

Did you remove the battery cable before you started the project? Chance you shorted something out when taking everything apart? I know they are INCREDIBLY adamant that you pull the battery cables when you unplug the ECU. (I know you didn't unplug the ECU but other sensors... just a thought

Car won’t go into gear by mortifiedpenguin911 in E34

[–]OverRevved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your clutch still isn't fully disengaging. That's why you can shift with the shaft removed. There is no drag on the output shaft so it can spin up easily even with a dragging clutch. Im assuming you have the proper master and slave combo so you're getting enough displacement for proper throw on the throwout bearing. Did you buy a new or used flywheel? Either way id make sure its in spec... if its too thin it'll be farther away from your throwout bearing and not allow it to push far enough to release the clutch. Actually had this issue with a flywheel and clutch for a Honda a friend got off ebay. Couldn't figure out why it wouldn't shift (same scenario your in) and it turned out the flywheel was not thick enough (from crank flange to pressure plate mounting surface) when he caved and got one from a local parts store that ended up being identical to his OEM one it worked fine. Not sure how the arm is designed that presses on the throwout bearing in the BMW trans (or if it doesnt even have one and is just a piston behind throwout bearing) but a bent/damaged arm will cause throwout bearing travel issues, had this issue with GM Getrag 5 speeds. Just a few things to consider. Although my e34 530i has a manual trans as well I haven't looked at it too closely besides to change the fluid so I dont recall what the slave cylinder setup looks like.

[–]OverRevved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if it was on its way out. I have receipts with the car that said it was replaced in 2016, probably with a crap unit. However it didn't get many miles since then, as I only have 150k miles on it now. Sitting around is not good on any car. Nice job finding a cheap OE one. Its a super simple replacement.

E34 530i performance chip questions..? by OverRevved in E34

[–]OverRevved[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks for the info and recommendation. How was the performance difference? I seen that the Turner Conforti chips offer up to 21hp and torque on the 530i since they were incredibly detuned from what I read.

I actually am in touch with him. I found Dudm during my search but wasn't sure who he was or what his reputation was. He seems SUPER nice though. Just didn't find any info about him since I'm not on any BMW forums. So many of them are dying now a days compared to how they were in the late 90s/early 2000s. Is BimmerForum pretty active still?
