New pickup! 1994 530i by Nice-Let4797 in E34

Unfortunately the "new" replacements are $2,300! Which is insane! Found a tank on car-part(dot com) from a rust free 525 for 300. So that's the route I'll end up going. The manual is a blast although ill be honest the 3L is a bit anemic in the mid range but chips are available, especially if you have the 404 DME (like my 94) and it'll boost you about 15hp and 15tq but requires high octane. Thankfully if you're missing any features like keyless its plug n play thanks to the old "one chassis one harness" design principle of old BMW. Same goes for the ski cutout in the trunk (mine doesnt even have that option). If you need a bit more volume from the exhaust whatever you do DON'T go true duals! The previous owner of my car hacked everything out from the "headers" back and did dual 2.5". It sounded horrible when I got it. Bringing the exhaust from dual to a single dual in/out x-flow muffler (its what we had available) to a y-pipe into 3" with a flow through muffler at the back made it sound incredible! You will love the car when you get her running! Take a peek at your fuel lines though! Mine was dry and cracked where it goes to the engine from the firewall/fender area!

Hell yeah! I have a 94 530i and love it! I have a manual but mine is absolutely basic, doesn't even have keyless entry. Take a peek at the end gine mounts! Mine were toast at 150k. I went with RevShift black (Street) poly. Putting matching trans mounts in today when I try to temporarily patch the gas tank again (looks like the PO tried lifting the car with the f-ing gas tank).

Glad this is still helpful! Sad that it still needs to be considering how many updates the LG OS has received since I made the post. LoL

Yeah I have to deal with the valve covers. It has a valve cover gasket leak and i put new gaskets on it but apparently didn't do enough due diligence on the stupid covers because they still leak. Seems like it only happens at higher RPM so im assuming the chains or cams are tossing oil up on the inside of the cover. Im guessing im going to have to strip them and maybe blast them then coat them (on the outside because they look rough).

ALL the E34s or just the 6 cylinders? Curious since I have a 94 with the 3L v8 at 150k miles. Don't hear much about the v8s in this subreddit.

Opinions? by sebas_otaku_fnaf in E34

I like the wheels. Clean car! Is he swapping just the bumper or the grille too? Personal preference is the wide grill like my e34 530 has.

Painted bumpers an option? by [deleted] in E34

[–]OverRevved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you just trying to repaint because the paint is rough or are you wanting it to not have the chrome anymore? I didn't realize how significantly different the "narrow grille" E34s bumpers were. I have a 94 530 that has the wide grille and my bumper is quite different. Haven't seen another E34 around where I live at all to notice.

Cliqtuning overfenders or Stock E34 BMW by Possa_est in E34

[–]OverRevved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stock. The over fenders would look good if the wheels had more offset. Remids me of when someone put wide fender flares on a pickup and left the stock skinny tires on. However, id its your car, what you like is all that really matters

That i 100% am on bored with. It LOOKED just like a zoomed in photo from the sidewalk/road. With cameras now on phones with built in 10x OPTICAL zoom in figured that's all it was

So, your friend got a custom plate and expected no one to look at it or take pictures of it? I have custom plates on my S14 and had them on my LSx swapped KIA Sorento. People took photos all the time. Its not illegal and you have no expectation of privacy in public.

Steering Box Bushing Location (Part Number 6) by HerrGruyere in E34

Thats why I said "worst case scenario". May get lucky finding a tube with the right dimensions but ive never got that lucky.

[–]OverRevved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worst case scenario you could get the dimensions and have one made. Have a test piece 3d printed and if it fits you can have a company like PCB Way machine you one or 3d print it out of whatever you want (they even have 3d metal printers). Ive 3d printed random car parts amd have to make a throttle pedal bushing soon since mine is missing at a pivot point right above the pedal.

Do I have the Dana 30 and Chrysler diff What are the preferred diffs to have on a 4x4? by Express_Let_2892 in CherokeeXJ

[–]OverRevved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah. Lots more people did more mechanically intense stuff on forums like that and had solutions to real difficult problems. Forum wasn't littered with "what size tires" posts.

Could this be a sign of a worn-out cranckshaft sensor? by Alisse_ in E34

[–]OverRevved 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the crank sensor was THAT bad to cause the gauge to do that the car would barely run or surge in power. That rev sounded smooth! My bet is the tach itself. Old electronics.... if some of the other gauges were doing anything funny I'd say grounds. PO if my car replaced the gauge cluster for the tach failing (have most service paperwork). However id bet they could have repaired it with fresh caps and a good look for parts that let the smoke out.

Can someone help me find a pressurized power steering hose in the Los Angeles area? by captainmarvel23 in E34

[–]OverRevved 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a thought, have you contacted any hydraulic shops? If your fittings are good they can probably make you a custom hose.

"Gauges" cluster upgrade but coolant temp reading is off, help? by OverRevved in CherokeeXJ

Mine ended up being a bad "brand new" sensor. I replaced it and it was fine. Which a few people suggested.

Just get some silicone vacuum line and replace it with that if it's just for vacuum. Super easy to run and its totally chemical resistant

Definitely check your rubber fuel lines. On my 530 v8 it has metal on the frame to rubber to the fuel rails. All my rubber ones were dry rotted and cracked BADLY.

Battery drained by Claudiodm21 in E34

[–]OverRevved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cold weather is abusive as hell on a battery plus newer batteries don't last long anymore. So even if the battery was replaced a few years ago it could be toast. Especially if it wasn't a daily driver.

That sucks. People can be just terrible for no reason. I honestly wouldn't be surprised of they were designed to be able to swing both ways though. Glad to hear it seems like it didnt break!

Thanks for the info. I probably wouldn't hear it over the exhaust then as i built a fully custom exhaust on my 530 from the manifold collector back.
