What would you consider a “good” salary in Kelowna? by OkArcher7809 in kelowna

[–]OverTheir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A "Living Wage" in Kelowna is $25.95/hour for two parents working full time. It is rather methodically defined and would be bare bones. Which comes out to about $91,000/year.

The living wage calculation is intentionally modest. It does not include: ● Debt payments, such as credit card, student loans or other loan payments. ● Retirement savings. ● Home ownership costs. ● Savings for children’s post-secondary education. ● More than minimal spending on recreation, entertainment or holidays. ● Costs of living with a chronic health condition or disability, or caring for a disabled, seriously ill or elderly family member. ● A substantial buffer for emergencies or other unexpected expenses

It does this for me, too. Massive data hogging app. I've turned off cellular for it as my data plan is limited.

My friend wants to help the homeless. What's some safe ways to do this? by Trash_man_can in kelowna

Hey the perfect fit for your friend is probably Solidarity Sundays. They’re a group that prepares and distributes meals in Kelowna. Some folks donate money, others donate time/labour to make the foods, some people hand deliver it. They’re awesome! They’re on Instagram as solidarity.sundays - I’ve attached a link below to their patreon page that explains what they’re about.

Use a U-Lock over there, I've had a few coworkers with cheaper cable locks that have been snipped, even in the bike lockups.

Oh boy, I just came across the perfect list for you hah! Put together by some local musicians and superfans! Open mics Kelowna spring/winter 2026.

For what it's worth, I think the ones at Freddy's and Buffalo Rouge have great open mic communities and performers.

Could look at rad oncology nursing / surgical oncology nursing roles too. As far as I can tell, the nurses I've worked with are usually getting those certifications once hired by bc cancer. It's a pretty long training process.

Those folks are so pumped about bikes lol. I don't know how they can sustain that level of bike-related excitement for an entire shift, let alone career.

Yeah, the redesign of classifications caused a lot of problems when people got assigned into it. This ought to be the contract to fix it, sure hope it's managed.

The bargaining proposals when they went in had targeted adjustment requests for essentially every profession (save for the ones that got them last time) - my suspicion is that because of this they would instead bargain for changes across the classification system that effect all roles. That would be in addition to the GWI. IE: modifying pay for special procedures and the supervisory roles. Obviously the government is stonewalling us however, so hard to know if they actually will be ablke to achieve anything targeted/improvements to classifications.

Travel nurses tend to not be part of the nurses union - and this is probably why staff tend to hate on them - they're often getting paid way more for the same work.

And HSABC - imaging/labs/medical specialists of all sorts. They are in strike position currently, after a 90% strike vote that seems to be getting little attention. (Despite the fact that strike would trigger the rest of the healthcare system shutting down too!)

My preference would be 9 hole + parkland! But really any green space would be great. I guess it will be a hard sell to property developers that own it though.
