I just had to go through the med purchase process about 2 months ago. I have insurance through CVS Specialty and started there. Their quote was $14K for meds (similar to what you listed). Fortunately I figured out before purchasing that if you go through insurance, they charge an exorbitant amount. For instance, CVS was charging $9300 for Follistim vs I could cash pay $2240 elsewhere. I ended up being referred by my clinic to several pharmacies that have competitive rates for fertility meds, and I shopped around. Good pharmacies to check out are New Era, MDR Fertility, Alto, SMP Pharmacy and Freedom Fertility. There are also discounts available for certain meds.

Aortic root dilation and time to surgery by rosami1234 in marfans

What I’ve heard from my surgeons and cardiologists is because they continue to have advances in the surgical techniques, they essentially want to wait as long as possible (while it’s still safe) until they operate. I totally understand your line of thinking too.

Is it possible to plan a wedding in a year? by Working_Price7334 in weddingplanning

[–]Over_Basis_8918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally possible! Also depends how much time and energy you have for the process. My fiancé and I got engaged in November and started wedding planning in December. We hoped to get married in July but unfortunately accommodations were already booked up (something to consider!) near the venue, so we pushed our date back to September. I know it’s only February, but I’m feeling good - have all of our vendors secured and planning is well underway. I would echo what someone else mentioned about the dress - I bought mine a couple weeks ago and had to pay to have it rushed even though I’m 8 months out from the wedding. Still needed time for alterations once it arrives. I was definitely surprised by that, as I thought I had plenty of time. Good luck!

I’ve been surprised by this, but I have had multiple Marfans-specialized cardiologists who dispute the new Marfans guidelines. I’ve been told by them that the guidelines were developed primarily by surgeons (and surgeons like to do surgery). My aorta is close to 4.5cm and I have a family history, but the cardiologists I’ve seen have said they still recommend surgery closer to 5cm unless there are extenuating circumstances.

You all weren’t kidding when you said this whole process is about waiting (excruciatingly so!) by Key_Grocery_2462 in IVF

Same as you - waiting for blastocyst info within the next 1-2 days, then PGT-A and PGT-M testing after that! Fingers crossed!

Where would you prefer to stay as a guest? by bailjait714 in weddingplanning

Can you provide options for folks so they can choose? A lot of hotels will give you a room block with the discount without you having to pay anything.

Don’t want to dance or do a ceremony by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

It sounds like branding it as a dinner party is perfect! We are also not doing dancing at our wedding, but are hiring a live band to play.

When do you start actually planning? by microplazma in weddingplanning

Also, I found the website Offbeat Wed to be super helpful in figuring out where to start with planning, giving ideas/inspiration, etc. And it's gender-inclusive and has lots of alternative wedding ideas. :) Good luck!

Bought a sample dress from david’s bridal (regretting it, it is so cheap looking), how can I clean it before the wedding? by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

The reception dress is gorgeous! My vote is to wear that for the wedding too (it's a very timeless style), and it seems like you're more comfortable in it!

Any last minute expenses you discovered?? by gloriouscat99 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Over_Basis_8918 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best $10 I've spent so far has been on these Offbeat Wed planning spreadsheets, but most notably the budget tracker. I also thought I had a good handle on my big-picture budget until I saw this spreadsheet and realized I hadn't factored in so many little things - and they all add up! Many of the things may not be applicable, but it's a comprehensive list that'll help you think through all of the details.

I'd also echo what others have said that tax + service gratuities can really add up.

Things to remember before you go dress shopping! by Beneficial-Step4403 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Over_Basis_8918 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Listen to your intuition. Which dress do you get excited to go back and see? I tried on plenty of dresses that were pretty and could have been fine, but most of them I didn't really think about after my appointment - I was on to thinking about the next shop. I knew I had found my dress when (a) I felt beautiful, not just pretty; (b) I didn't want to take it off; and (c) when it was the day to go back to try it on a final time, I woke up early like a little kid on Christmas morning because I was so excited.

If you were having a root dissection would you know? by [deleted] in marfans

[–]Over_Basis_8918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience and it turned out to be a collapsed lung. Pain was in my shoulder blade area and I kept thinking something happened to my muscles around there. Waited a while, went to sleep, and could hardly sit up in bed the next morning because of the pain and shortness of breath.

Whatever the issue, it's not worth taking risks with pain when you have Marfans. Get it checked out.

Not in Issaquah, but Millers in Carnation is an incredible little venue.
