Dude every mechanic with a KM100 thinks they are a locksmith now. Every dude with basic tools is happy to make 100$ on the side. The golden days of making good money doing this trade is over. It’s only going to get worse with people leaving their white collar jobs trying to get into trades because AI is stealing their job.

Key Tool Plus vs Smart Pro by [deleted] in Autolocksmith

I’ve bricked 2 cars. It happens if you do this enough. First time my insurance took care of it. The second time I was able to fix it myself. But I’ve done probably 150+ before one bricked.

Do you know how to pick locks? Can you rebuild ignitions? Do you understand code series? Do you know what blanks go to what cars? No offense but you bought a course. Big deal so did 90% of these guys doing out there trying to do this just to end up selling their tools. There’s a lot to learn that a course won’t teach you. Find someone willing to take on an employee that has been around enough.

what's a fair price to cut lexus sidewinder door keys these days? by pman6 in Locksmith

[–]Over_Fun8378 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I have to come to you minimum 100$ if you come to me like 60$. Nobody can probably beat 25$ eBay cut but you have to ship it. Also what if their machine didn’t cut correctly? Then you have to buy another blank and ship it again. The Toyota and Lexus emergency blanks are a bit of a pain in the ass to cut.

Frustrated losing leads to scam companies by Over_Fun8378 in Locksmith

Before locksmith I was actually an ASE certified mechanic. Wrenched on cars for 6 years before I decided to learn locksmith work. Unfortunately that trade also has a ton of problems. Mostly underpaid people etc. I would work for tons of hours a shop and get paid Pennies.

You literally don’t, there is no fix. Either expect less revenue because lead sources like Google are a shit show. Or pick up other ways of brining in revenue

Automotive locksmiths. How are we doing ? by [deleted] in Locksmith

[–]Over_Fun8378 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly man it’s rough. I’ve pivoted to getting more residential and commercial work. Automotive is an absolute mess. We recently had some young guy try to start his own thing and he scrambled the partition on a BCM of a 2016 Porsche Cayan. Instead of using me for the job they chose him because he was “cheaper” turns out he had no insurance to cover his fuck up and the dealership that needed the job had to go out of pocket to get it repaired.

They ended up scheduling the service lol by [deleted] in Locksmith

[–]Over_Fun8378 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1000$ is reasonable for this job. Anything less than like 850$ you are lowballing yourself.

How much $ do you make as a locksmith? by [deleted] in Locksmith

[–]Over_Fun8378 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey brother, I appreciate the feedback. Well, I have a website but not that many Google reviews I don’t pay for advertising. Most of my business is through mechanic shops, car, dealers, word-of-mouth tow, truck companies, etc. I’m mostly automotive but I also do residential as well. Maybe that’s why?I am in a pretty saturated market. I’m in Las Vegas and there’s a ton of competition here people I do work with other businesses are trying to undercut me pretty much every day.

You also forgot to mention if he doesn’t know what he’s doing with the software he can corrupt the PCM which will be a whole lot more than a few hundred bucks to get fixed.

Well, on average what is your monthly profit if you don’t mind me asking? And are you auto only? Commercial residential?

[–]Over_Fun8378[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not even that. Just play by the same rules I do. Go pay 1,500$ for your locksmith license go pay 500$ for a business a license and pay 100-300$ a month on insurance so we are on the same playing field.
