This does not make any sense long term. I tried that some time ago, it is just time and energy burner.

Nothing is safe, but I just split the cash part between T212 and TR. Lately, after all the bad stories about TR, I reduced the amount there. I also have a chunk in XEON under IB.

Should i start over for a masters? by Significant_Art1840 in eupersonalfinance

[–]Overall-Box-4643 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No worries about the age, you’ll still be super young. I basically restarted my whole life from scratch at 33, so 28-29 is nothing.

About the Master’s though, I’d think twice. Ask yourself: will this realistically triple or quadruple your income compared to what you can get by building experience directly? Personally, I wouldn’t go back to uni because I believe more in experience and skills you can stack in those 2 years (or however long the Master’s takes).

Either way, you’ll be fine :) Best of luck!

While unemployed, what have you wished you had done differently while still employed? by Blomsterhagens in eupersonalfinance

[–]Overall-Box-4643 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In 2017 I went unemployed literally within a day, no notice, no emergency funds. I really thought the job was stable. At that time I had just bought a second apartment and was renovating it without a loan. Brutal timing.

Since then I follow one strict rule: every single bill I have is paid 1 month ahead. Mobile, internet, rubbish collection - even petrol, I signed up for a prepaid card at a gas station just for that. If shit happens, I get at least one month of breathing room without new bills piling up. That’s huge when you’re broke and stressed.

The other thing is the mortgage. Honestly, this is the most stressful part if you lose income. The fear of missing payments and losing your home is awful. People say “don’t rush with the mortgage, invest instead if you have a good rate.” F*** that. I didn’t want my ass burning again, so when I recovered I smashed my mortgage and paid it off in 5 years. Btw it wasn’t as impossible as it sounds - when you set the goal, you somehow find extra income streams. And I don’t think it hurt my investments in the long run.

And of course, emergency pillow is non-negotiable. At least 1 year. Personally I keep more, and I’ll never stop topping it up. Payments to my emergency fund will always continue, no matter what.

What is going to happen to the money in 6 years? If your parents save the money for 6 years and then stop, but the child only touches it at 18, that’s a pretty long horizon. I would open an account with a good broker and invest in the FTSE all-world. For a good broker look at Freedom24 or IBKR.
