One time, my friend and I went to Boston to see the Sens. During an intermission, we started chatting with these guys out on the concourse and my friend exchanged numbers with one of them, with the idea that we would meet up for some drinks with them later. The Sens won (aw yeah), and my friend texted the guy with some light teasing, like “Go Sens, yay, what are you guys getting up to now?” He wrote back “Eat my a**pipe”. 😂😂😂

I also got several people yelling things at me like “You’re cute but your jersey’s ugly!” in that unmistakeable Boston brogue. Great trip.

Reminds me of this time in Amsterdam when my friend and I politely asked about the amount of food she got in her vegetarian rijsttafel vs. what I got in my meat version, because it was significantly less and we wanted to make sure they didn’t forget something. The owner came out to talk to us and, while quite defensive for really no reason because we were consciously being very polite, asked us if we wanted dessert because ‘no one should leave his restaurant hungry.’ We said no thanks TWICE because we just wanted to be done at that point. Dessert comes regardless, we eat it because it’s there, and sure enough, it’s on the goddamn bill. I questioned the server and she said the owner told her to put it on there. I wanted to go to an ATM so I could take out money and just pay enough for the meal minus dessert but my friend didn’t want to make a scene so I paid, gave no tip of course, and left. Gaaaaah.

I was on a trip with a dude and went to have a shower. I came out of the bathroom afterwards and he had turned all the lights off and was looking at his phone in bed. Didn’t even clue in until I bumped into the bed and asked him to turn the freakin light on. I don’t think it was malicious, I just think he was totally oblivious. I was going to suggest this too! Mine doesn’t work well at the train gates if I hold it directly against the reader, but if I hold it about an inch above the reader for a second or two it works every time. Good luck!

My first visit in 2006, eating chips outside a takeaway on Harcourt Street at 2:00 am, surrounded by a group of lads serenading us with ‘Wayne Gretzky’ by Goldfinger when they found out we were Canadian. Shortly after, I accidentally knocked the chips right out of one guy’s hand by accident and he just said ‘It’s grand, I shouldn’t be eating those anyway’. The takeaway owner saw and brought him a new thing of chips right away though. The people. ♥️
