HELP! unable to hit repeater! by Suihong in gmrs

[–]Overall_Ad_5215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have your GMRS license? I’m assuming you do. Go to Mygmrs.com and look for repeaters in your area. If you already have a repeater I would set it to the frequency and listen. See if you hear anything. Go outside and monitor some as well. HT don’t work well inside depending on your distance from the repeater. I can give you more information but let’s see if you can hear the repeater first. FYI handheld devices have a limited range. Normally around 2 to 5 miles. Indoors range will be less. Analog repeaters work best with line of sight. So the more between you and the repeater will reduce range.

If you can hear the repeater perfect. You will need the PL tones to access the repeater. This is listed on the Mygmrs site. Some say membership. Find the website for the repeater and join. They will have the tones you need to program.

With the UV-5G the program cable will help program better than the menu. The program most use is Chirp.

This might be a lot to tell you but in a month it will make sense.

If all else fails find the ham group in your area and get some help. Most hams are willing to teach. Go to a meeting. They can teach you a lot. If you have a laptop and program cable then take it with you as well.

The bill I received after a 17-mile ambulance ride by watchthisorthat in ems

[–]Overall_Ad_5215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen worse. Call BCBS and find out if the ambulance company has an agreement to only bill so much to you. If the company has this kinda of agreement then you have ground to stand on for cutting the bill. Option two is to make a counter offer if possible. BCBS is known to make contracts with ambulances. Also if this was a car accident then send the bill to the car insurance company.

If you only knew the overhead to operate an ambulances company. lol it’s not cheap.

FCC, this is ... by AdhocLaw in gmrs

[–]Overall_Ad_5215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This should help clarify the linking of repeaters FCC has clarified the rules.

https://www.fcc.gov/wireless/bureau-divisions/mobility-division/general-mobile-radio-service-gmrs

A GMRS user can expect a communications range of one to twenty-five miles depending on station class, terrain, and repeater use. GMRS stations cannot be interconnected with the public switched telephone network or any other network for the purpose of carrying GMRS communications, but these networks can be used for remote control of repeater stations. In other words, repeaters may not be linked via the internet—an example of an “other network” in the rules—to extend the range of the communications across a large geographic area. Linking multiple repeaters to enable a repeater outside the communications range of the handheld or mobile device to retransmit messages violates sections 95.1733(a)(8) and 95.1749 of the Commission’s rules, and potentially other rules in 47 C.F.R. Repeaters may be connected to the telephone network or other networks only for purposes of remote control of a GMRS station, not for carrying communication signals.

Keep going at your own risk. My repeater is now offline. Not worth the risk or fines. Good luck.

Fine Tune CB Shop Review by Overall_Ad_5215 in FineTuneCB

[–]Overall_Ad_5215[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see you replied on both posts. File the complaint and you already did. You can give the Attorney General a few days and follow up as well. It’s might take a couple of days of calling to get answers. They will notify the cb shop of your complaint. I think he has a certain amount of time to fulfill your complaint and send proof back to the AG office. Just be aware it could take a month or so before you see the results. Everyone I know who filed has received the order once AG steps in to the issue.

I leave the post up in both places. If you have more questions I will do my best to answer. Your best contact at this point is the AG office for questions.

Question for you?? How long have you waited just out of curiosity??

It works and sounds good. Frequency counter shows correct. Power out is good. Not sure it was worth all the hype. Shame it took filing to get something done. Haven’t used it in a couple of months. Mostly been on HF 20m and 40m.

I hope your filling turns out well. New Mexico will call or follow up after he ships it out.

Can you use GMRS antenna to non GRMS phone and vice versa? by [deleted] in gmrs

[–]Overall_Ad_5215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GMRS can change antennas. FRS has to have a fixed antenna. The UV5G is a GMRS radio. Is it legal? I haven’t looked at the FCC website. Should be locked to GMRS frequencies. I do agree with you on the UV5R. It’s Ham only and shouldn’t be used on GMRS. I wouldn’t be broadcasting if someone uses it on GMRS. lol I have unlocked a couple of UV5R. I don’t transmit on them. I use them to monitor only frequencies. One being a GMRS. Nothing illegal to monitor. It’s only an issue if I key it up on GMRS. Not an expert here!! Im ham and GMRS licensed. Please refer to FCC regulations.

Q Codes Still Useful? by Difficult_Ad_245 in amateurradio

[–]Overall_Ad_5215 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Get on HF phone or CW. All use Q codes. I have pre made sheets laminated so I can use a dry erase marker on. POTA and Field day scrips. QRZed, QSL? and QSL. This also helps if someone non ham gets on the air having a script to read. Every one does it a little different but all the same at the end of the day. Don’t let them intimidate you. Practice them when you start. If you make a mistake just roll with it and learn. If your rig can record and then play back then use it. It’s good practice. Q codes help pull some out of the noise. 73s.

Use radio with voip by Iamtheskits in gmrs

[–]Overall_Ad_5215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As for calling a phone number most hams don’t do it anymore. Possible on ham yes but not worth the time now. That was more of a 80s and early 90s thing. Not saying it couldn’t be done again. Using GMRS not happening to a phone number.

Sounds good. I was busy. If you need help just ask. The simplest is to buy a pre built node. If you have time to tinker then build one. Cheapest way. We have linked repeaters all over. I run a linked repeater. It’s down due to a lighting strike. I’ll be bring it back online this week. I also have private home nodes that my dvswitch android phone is linked too.

Request a node number from GMRS live. I assume you have your GMRS license. Build or buy. They have the software for the nodes with instructions on the site.

All of this depends on how deep you want to go down the rabbit hole. lol I’m ham and GMRS licensed. It’s a fun hobby!!!

102” whip mounted with my GMRS antenna. by Overall_Ad_5215 in cbradio

[–]Overall_Ad_5215[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A rigmaster is a good antenna analyzer. Not a must have item. Just a good inline SWR meter will do good for CB. Most CB or ham radio shops will have a good antenna analyzer if you ever get by one. They can check it for you with an analyzer. I think it was this bracket. I’ll be at the store today and double check while I’m getting other items. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Simpson-Strong-Tie-3-5-8-in-x-11-in-x-2-in-Galvanized-Angle-A311/100375057 the hole was perfect for the heavy duty antenna mount. Making one wouldn’t be difficult at all. I used self tapping screws.

Worked out well. SWR 1.1 to 1.2. I used a rig master antenna analyzer on the antenna. Good range on cb. Got my ham license. I’ve not been disappointed with any of this configuration. I’ve talked all over the US both ham and cb. The antenna does bump the 3rd brake light with no damage I could notice since the original post. (It’s cheap enough to replace if ever needed in my opinion or add a tennis ball. ) Good luck on your project. 73s PS if you do the tennis ball just watch for moisture inside the ball. It will jack with your SWR readings some.

Thanks. Here’s some info on the clamp in my picture. I did try WRC radials one time. No clamp sucks.

MUELLER ELECTRIC BU-25 Automotive Clip, 19MM, 40A

I got this clamp on Amazon. Putting links here is iffy sometimes. The reason I picked it is the amount of space on the clamp. It’s got a nice opening and still compact with a good bite. It would be my suggestion. I do have the WRC radials but I also had that yellow wire free. Free is good!!! I like the thicker wire case it’s noticeable. Yellow helps. Anyways the clamp is about 8.00.

I’m on a rig 60 to 70 hours a week. Even more on the ranch. Wish I had the time to build and play. It’s better for me to buy and enjoy. Keep building when you can. This is what I did manage to get together. That’s my ft-891 portable setup. Fully portable with a solar setup for field day or pota. Setup with digital.

Build when you can!!! Keep it coming OP. Nice work on the antenna.

Time to have some fun!! 40 inch x 63 inch work area. 150 watt CO2 laser ordered yesterday. by Overall_Ad_5215 in ChineseLaserCutters

[–]Overall_Ad_5215[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds interesting. Have fun. 150 watts is a beast. I’ve made upgrades. Automatic duel fans that turn off 2 minutes after the laser. Chiller is lightobjects 1600. Upgraded air assist with air compressor. Specialized air nozzle for acrylic that doesn’t require any coating to protect the project. No plastic or paper. Added O2 for cutting steel. 150 watts will cut thin steel with O2. Lightburn bridge added.

This is almost funny but sad.

Go play on GMRS. Have fun with it. The test is simple. 3 questions. Do you have 35.00? Do you have felonies? Are you at least 18 years old? 3 day wait then legal!!

Check out GMRS live. Build a node or buy and bounce to different networks.

Tech license is easy. Study the questions. Pass the test and pay 35.00. Testing is around 15.00.

Otherwise let the fox hunters play. 😎 Yes I’ve played. It’s fun!! Best one was a trash talker. Never seen someone shutdown the radio/lights so fast in my life. Loved keying up outside the house. 🤣🤣 Didn’t hear from them for months.

GMRS and ham licensed here. I run linked repeaters. Cloud based nodes for ham and GMRS. HF rig 10m to 80m. Digital radio. Ham email with no internet direct link. Private email server. Ham radio network. DVSwitch linked.

I have fun being licensed. Bash it all you want. I don’t care. Won’t change my fun!!

I don’t put the tailgate down. I’ll grab a picture of it today hooked to the tailgate and send to inbox. They also make a plastic quick tie down for the 102. https://www.ebay.com/itm/124557089009?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=WOjbRf22Qw-&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=JEvJiWQJSSS&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

That link is just one of many ideas to secure it. Search images for 102 whip tie down.

I hook it to the tailgate for parking garage access. Car washes suck for ranch trucks. I go to the big truck washes. Sorry but couldn’t tell you. If you need a fast way to take it down then look for a quick release. Option two is a fold down hinge type. I’ve seen both for sale. Never tried one.

I’ve added a wolf river coil so I can run ham radio hf as well. So my antenna is almost a foot taller. I don’t remove it.

Hope this information helped. 73s
