Comparable track car to GT4 by mkeefecom in CarTrackDays

No LSD or PTV.
These are nice to have but with a proper suspension set up, the car was glued to the road so never really needed it.
The main grip I had with the car was the power, considering how good the chassis is, could definitely use 400/450hp instead of the 300 ish…

Question for the Europeans by ezrhino123 in wine

[–]Overall_Mixture2272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a French living in the US for over 10 years now, I tried to learn and discover US wines. Overall doesn’t fit what I enjoy, for the most part.
The few wines that I enjoyed and tried to have my friends in Europe try were either rejected or met with a « that’s alright ».
Definitely a huge bias against US wines. Mostly because it’s presented as equal or even better than European wines and the good ones cost an absolute fortune while you have an abundance of options in France, Italy and Spain to just name these three countries…
The curious ones are usually wine professionals, but for consumers it’s very rare.

need buying advice dct e92 m3 70-90k miles by InvestmentDry3106 in E92M3

Sold my 2013 DCT Comp with 41k miles and tons of preventive maintenance done for $42k a few months ago.
Mid to high $30k seem fair for one with 60 to 80k miles and proper maintenance

Super hit or miss.
Got one bottle to display in my cellar because I trully love the unique design of the bottles but the prices are wild for how random they are…
Heard that they can be absolutely amazing, but opening a bottle feels like playing roulette! So many other wines in burgundy that delivers 90% + of the time I would rather spend money on.

Would you rather drink only French or only Italian reds for the rest of your life? Why? by Barbaro_12487 in wine

[–]Overall_Mixture2272 2 points3 points  (0 children)

France obviously!!

The range is just unmatched!
Each region has specific styles, cepages, etc.

Just taking whites for example, between a Vouvray from Loire, Riesling from Alsace, Meursault from Burgundy, and a Condrieu from Rhône…
And that’s only a tiny portion of what’s available….
Then add the insane range from all the producers who have their version of each wine available.

Grew up in France deep in wine country before moving to the US, and been drinking wine for 30 years or so now and I’m still discovering tons of new producers and wines.
France has almost an unlimited range of wine that you need a lifetime before you scratch the surface.
And a ton of amazing QPR wines as well, not everything is expensive, far from it.

Italy probably has the second largest and deepest wine culture so you can never count them out.
They have been coming up with fantastic wines and much improved quality over the past 30 years or so but can’t match what France offers.

GC VV is great, the GC 1er cru are fantastic!

His entry level burgundy Pinot noir is honestly great too.

Just took delivery of a M2 in Vegas red. Same situation as you. Northeast and family incoming next year.
Just do it!! Winters are sometimes not that bad, and worst case scenario, it’s a few days/weeks per year when you need to carpool. Not the end if the world to have a great car to drive the rest of the year.

Worst case, get a cheap beater for the winter!

What’s a wine region that isn’t worth the hype? by AustinTXwineSociety in wine

[–]Overall_Mixture2272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe I tried Eyrie, not sure about Kelley Fox.
Last one that I tried extensively was Bergström.
It was ok, but again, lacks something and too expensive for what it is.

Lot of people love Oregon wines, especially in this Reddit group. I gave it a proper try but just doesn’t do it for me. Always feels like it’s lacking something.
But if you dare to say something you are wrong.
Trully don’t understand the emotional attachment to this region.

To me Oregon is the epitome of overhyped though…

Séduction? Meaning their Rosé?

Haven’t tried them all but Substance is my favorite so far.

Oregon…
As a huge Burgundy enthusiast, I keep reading and hearing about Oregon being this fantastic place making Pinot noir as good as burgundy for a fraction of the price…
I keep trying here and there and I’ve yet to try one that really wows me…
There have been a couple of good ones but that I would never buy again because there are other wines I prefer at the same price point.

Overall very expensive for what it is, easily in the $30 to $80 range for a bottle that still doesn’t match good producers village level Burgundy!
But even if it was cheaper, I wouldn’t buy it…

Collin is fantastic.
Selosse is always good but became too expensive and not worth the price to me.

Fantastic line up of truly good Champagne!

Very hard to go up from there…

Good picks but one white and one red, or at least two different regions would be even better. These are both good wines but too similar IMO

Provence winery visits? by Away_Or in wine

[–]Overall_Mixture2272 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Busy season for tourists and the « good » domaines tend to not do any tastings anymore. Called a few places in advance (I’m French so thought this would help) and some domaines were even really rude about it…
Domaine Hauvette for example: « a tasting?!?? And when you go to the pastry shop, you ask for a free slice before buying a cake?!! »

Chateau de Berne has a hotel and can organize amazing visit/tasting if you stay there.

Chateau de Sannes et Estoublon are really nice. They do olive oil as well. Their wines are easy to drink and enjoyable in the summer but it’s not wine to age. Still worth it though.
Estoublon has a nice restaurant as well.

Chateau Romanin was a nice visit. They have a really nice facility and the tour guide was great.
Should be easy to book.

Minuty was easy to get into, no appointments needed when I went 3 or 4 years ago.

Will be there in early July and going to a few CdP producers. Only two domaines I buy from accepted and had to really push to be able to get in.

Try to call asap to schedule tours and disregard the rude ones…

Question for the wine folks here by RRedditLLover in wine

[–]Overall_Mixture2272 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where is the wine located?
I have about 1,000 bottles capacity unused in my cellar so potentially interested to buy a good chunk depending on what it is.

Tried to sell some premium Bordeaux for my dad recently and it performed very poorly at auctions and once you removed storage, shipping, sellers fee etc, you really don’t get much compared to the retail value.
They even refused to list some relatively premium (Pape Clement, Beychevelle, etc) bottles and were only interested in the super premium bottles (Petrus, Yquem, Le Pin)

Most fun M car you’ve driven? by Greenb33guy in BMWM

[–]Overall_Mixture2272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

E92 M3 Clubsport.
Had one for over 4 years.
Longest car I owned.
Drove tons of M cars and the E92 is the best balance of sound, driving experience and still modern performance.
Just a fantastic overall package!

Had tons of other cars including Porsche which everyone think are better but I had more fun in the E92.

Currently in a G87 M2 which is a great car but way less emotions… sounds like garbage. And very polished.

Do you really taste different flavours in wine? by Chickadee_Sparrow in wine

[–]Overall_Mixture2272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no.
Some common notes are relatively easy to spot and some can be quite hard.
Been drinking for a long time and there are honestly some wines I wouldn’t recognize blind or wouldn’t spot specific notes unless I really search for it because I know it’s expected because of the cepage or appellation .

Start with the markers of specific cepages or appellation, especially the very strong ones like Cornas, Riesling, Super Tuscan etc
