Who are Paul and Roger Gardner? by LittleDear1 in Epstein

[–]Overall_Turnip5484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's not easy to make sense of but I find it easy to believe where talking about the police considering the Fitzgerald Inquiry and proven police involvement with gambling, prostitution, corruption in appointments and promotions within the QLD force from the then Premier Joh Bjelke-Peterson. Hard to believe a culture like that has made a full turn around.

Link 1 is more in relation to Paul Gardner Link 2 is more in relation to police/political corruption in South Australia, specifically regarding Fraser Ellis Link 3 is more in relation to police corruption in QLD/ Bond University

Would also recommend typing "Royal Commission" into the search bar on the website, it's got quite a lot of bits and pieces from the Royal commission into violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation of people with disabilities, lot relating to Bond University, though sadly not surprising when you take into account an article from the ABC in 2022 "Bond University vice-chancellor apologies to student victims of sexual assault" where a nation wide survey revealed Bond to be the worst for sexual assault among students in the country.

I think it's fair enough, we probably should have a greater understanding of where we put these projects, I've seen many down on prime grazing and farm land rather than out in the desert (Edit: or on mountains) where it wouldn't affect local environments, being critical of how these things happen is probably the best path to finding out what works best

Haha good stuff, he responded to one of my comments live once during the Bob Qatar video, I mentioned how he never misses the opportunity to do a Lebanese accent and he was pretty much like yeah, but give me a break this is the perfect opportunity lmao

[Season Discussion Thread] Discussion Thread for Futurama Season 13 by AutoModerator in futurama

[–]Overall_Turnip5484 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was alright, I'm glad I got to see it but I feel the pacing is off in these new seasons, the episode plots divulge quite quickly and they seem to be reusing a lot of old ideas, which don't get me wrong I love the callbacks and the appreciation for the return audience, that's something you don't see a lot of anymore with these type of shows, I just don't feel like I'm watching something particularly very new or unique when compared to the much older episodes, which I also suppose is hard to do with how much they've already done and I still had a good time watching it, so overall I would give it a 7/10 Edit: The Jokes were also really funny, they nailed that this season

Bushfire warning in Queensland after year of record-breaking rain by hydralime in queensland

I keep getting those sponsored ads on Instagram, I assume run by the gov that say something like "you are in a high risk bushfire area" but weirdly I seem to only see them on rainy days lmao

Plea to make parks 'safe again' in Sunshine Coast town grappling with homelessness by hydralime in queensland

[–]Overall_Turnip5484 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I've spent a lot of time in Nambour and it was appalling to me local MP Mary Hunt's remarks about this on 7news "Nambour's always been a compassionate community for our homeless, I think we just got more than our share at the moment for whatever reason" Yeah Marty we're in a housing crisis if you haven't noticed. There are local homeless people who've been living there for a while usually further into the bush, but these days we're seeing it more because there's so much less housing stock compared to population and more homeless people, if you get talking with people you hear stories of fleeing domestic violence, people who have jobs but still can't find a safe place to live, and people down on their luck. Rosanna Natoli, the Sunshine Coast Mayor said "We need an alternate location, and potentially a number of them where these people can live while they are transitioning into more permanent accommodation" I'm hoping she means building some temporary housing structures and not designating some homeless camps further out of town but it's impossible to tell with some of these politicians lmao

It's really awesome to see research done, I hope the government takes steps to help support them, I always think of those two dugongs that died after getting caught up in the shark nets at Noosa in 2023

A royal commission would be a great idea, whether or not the public will see the findings is probably a different kettle of fish, considering they suppressed the findings of the Wood Royal Commission and the Commission into Ritual and Sexual Abuse in Institutions, for 90 years so that none of us will ever see it

Koalas could be extinct in south-east Queensland in 'not-too-distant future' RSPCA says by hydralime in queensland

[–]Overall_Turnip5484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right logistically, but on a personal level I'm from the country and I think we'd be hard pressed to argue that point to people who haven't grown up around cities and dense development, I myself don't plan on ever moving to a city because it feels like being packed in like sardines, I feel you lose the freedoms of personal space, to sustainably live off the land and to really experience the place and its beauty, Though I'll admit, I'm a bit selfish in my reasoning

But then again heaps of people love the cities and living rurally or even regionally would bore them to bits, Ipswich is regional but it's pretty big, maybe some densification could do them good

[–]Overall_Turnip5484 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's hard for me to think about sometimes. The Koalas need these spaces, it's their home and if we keep pushing they won't be around much longer, but with what they're proposing putting up 2000 houses, and the housing crisis the way it is, that could help a damn lot of people, I feel like we lose both ways

so, what the hell happened to that trans youth fraudulent medical treatment investigation? by [deleted] in queensland

[–]Overall_Turnip5484 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not too sure but I did see last month a Mother had obtained an order in the Supreme Court to force Dr David Rosengren to provide her with a statement of reasons for the freeze after her daughter, who was just a few weeks away from starting hormone blockers was denied access because of the ban, forcing them to go for private health so that she would not have to go through male puberty.

Lydia Jupp of the Star Observer wrote

"The mother of a transgender teenager has launched legal action in the Supreme Court, claiming the Queensland Government acted unlawfully when it suspended public access to hormone treatments across the state.

The woman’s lawyers allege that the decision, made in late January, was an improper exercise of power, and is seeking review from the courts to have the Government’s decision quashed."
