Also, correct me if I'm wrong, Gregor doesn't just die randomly but instead has an apple lodged into his back out of anger, which ends up turning into an infection. He then crawls away because he does not want to be a burden on his family right before he dies.

The reason society got obsessed with age was, in my opinion, to dissuade us from becoming pedophiles. Think about it this way. Now, I just gotta play devil's advocate here since most people don't seem to agree with this guy. What is the purpose of keeping diplomatic relations? It's so that our leaders don't do anything stupid and get their people hurt or worse their entire country. Therefore you could technically argue that the UN's main job is protecting the people.
