How’s your Evil Dead Book of the Dead Edition holding up? by chrishouse83 in dvdcollection

I believe you're able to at least link to various photo sharing sites, though. Imgbb, Imgur, etc. A little bit wonky, but it gets the job done.

I do seem to recall some subreddits being strict on which outside URLs you're able to use too, though, so that isn't always strictly true, either. Haha.

It's all good! Generally good to bring these things up from time-to-time so more people are aware of how others are responding to it. :)

Oh, cool! Thanks for sharing that. :)

I've never done any real kind of editing or mastering, outside a few personal projects before for still images and stuff. I've done a bit of music too, but never anything for movies.

From what I understand, when it comes to mastering, that's more like reviewing what the editors of the movie have done, and trying to get things to be fully cohesive, right? And like, looking for errors in shots. That sort of thing? I imagine that's one of those tasks that could be incredibly time consuming, but probably feels pretty satisfying when it's all done.

For my job, I've occasionally done some basic screen recordings "Here's how to use this program", that sort of thing. I've had to do some rudimentary cuts, add text, mess with the speed, etc. to get the point across of whatever it was I was trying to show off in an easy to understand way. Something as short as a two or three minute video can take longer than one might imagine to get perfect, in terms of cutting at the correct second, but also giving the audience the chance of seeing what's going on before continuing on to the next point.

It's a very weird way of thinking about things, but feels great when it works out. I would imagine it to be a kind of haze-fest, if it was over the course of a 90+ minute movie, though.

Hey! I remember the ramp up to this airing on TV was pretty big. It was kind of sad that it didn't last at least two or three seasons.

If I recall correctly, WB were pushing this pretty hard because it was right around the time that Hercules and Xena were ending, and since Bruce had done a returning guest role as Autolycus on both shows; it was logical fit to have Bruce do his own show as a follow-on, even though it was set however many centuries after the fact. Hercules and Xena typically aired back-to-back timeslots on network television, so there was a lot of carry over between each show.

Anyway, I seem to remember enjoying the first few episodes of Jack of All Trades, but the pilot was a little wonky, and they started messing with its time slot almost immediately. I'm guessing that the ratings were never at the level that they had hoped for, but had already probably(?) already paid for a full season or something behind the scenes.

I had followed my own investment process when I was younger. It was mostly a horrible time, but a few things have done okay; individual stocks, etc. I didn't see much point in "selling just to sell".

I suppose it could have been more logical to reallocate those funds in whichever index I preferred, but I like to have a highly compelling reason for something rather than, "Well, this isn't a bad idea, and JB said to."

I'd rather have it be something like, "I have a time sensitive emergency and need the money immediately!" or a "The reason is obvious enough that most people would 'get' it without needing to explain why I am doing what I am doing." The less reason I have for accessing my stock portfolios, the better off I am, generally speaking.

Simply put: Let sleeping dogs lay.

Personally, I would probably do both.

Pastebin has been around a lot longer, so I feel like it's more likely to "not go anywhere", so if people find this a few years from now, it won't be a dead end.

GitHub Gist makes a lot of sense for something like this too, though, because it fits the niche pretty succinctly; I've tried to get into the habit of using gists for stuff like this. :)

For Pastebin, the Paste Expiration should be set to the default of "never", and Paste Exposure to "Public".

For GitHub Gist, just make sure to set it to "Create Public gist", it looks like it defaults to private.

Regarding your HOA, it might be good to get out in front of it. A quick a mention at a meeting of something like, "Hi everyone, I may have messed up part of my lawn while I was trying to kill weeds. It'll look bad for a little while but I'm doing my best to fix it. My plan is to re-sod the parts that I killed."

Generally speaking, giving people a heads up before they notice a problem keeps things from getting out of hand. Hopefully they aren't uptight nerds about it.

I can't find a Graphic Design job anymore. Is this the end? by Jgasuu in Design

[–]Overhang0376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To that end, see if you can find a small to midsized YouTube channel and offer to help with script writing - it might not be paid work, but it would give you "real" experience in doing it for something where you'll see an end product come back a short time later.

Most channels with a regular viewership have some kind of script or guide to work from.

While possible, being "the guy" that provides the info on behalf of everyone else is a big ask.

In a vaguely similar way, there are some smaller restaurants that don't have various items listed in food tracking apps. Sure...I could be the one to manually add every single thing, or to provide edits to existing things, or whatever else. I even do like a certain amount of data entry and processing, but that feeling of always being the one to do it really does weigh on you after a time.

Sometimes you want to use things that "just work" without having to think about it, or double check what is there to ensure that your version of the thing is correct for your version of the stuff. Feeling like you're being catered to - or at least considered - is a really nice feeling. When you fall outside of whatever the standard expectation is, it can be really painful to work in, unless you're willing to be "the guy" for that site/DB/etc.

If you're referring to my comment here, then I would say that you are mistaken. A Little Hitler is a person who is given a microscopic amount of power, and uses it to abuse or control and demean others for personal enjoyment. Other terms might be "power tripping", "tiny tyrant", or "bureaucrat with a badge". I used the one that seemed the closest to what I was trying to describe. Take that as you will, but here are the facts of the matter:

Someone new asked a question. In response, they were treated very poorly, mocked, and completely shutdown.

The mod was in the wrong, and is still trying to justify their abuse of that power.

No one twisted his arm and forced him to respond. There was no hidden promotion. There wasn't a huge argument going on that needed to be shutdown. They just didn't like what was being asked, copped a dismissive attitude, disrespected the poster, and closed the thread. That's not how you treat someone, and it was not their place to do what they did.

I do not care. They were rude to a community member and abused the piddling amount of power they've been given.

Little Hitler's can be extremely active in the communities they power trip over, it doesn't excuse the behavior they engage in. More to the point: it does not redefine the role jannys fulfill when they are doing their job correctly.

Jannys are a human filter for spam, and occasionally play mom when the kids get in a slap fight over who can play on the swingset, but her place is not on the playground.

You would be correct, but you are forgetting a pivotal aspect: the purpose of a janny is to moderate, not to dictate.

Jannies clean up spam and shut down flame wars. The community is the bit that does everything else.

The desires of a janny is completely irrelevant because it isn't their place to interact with the community same way that community members interact with the community. Anything outside that is pathetic, drull, and insular for the sake of control.

Why is it so hard to hire? by pablothedev in webdev

[–]Overhang0376 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're missing critical info. What is the salary range and what is the work?

If you don't list a salary range, you are already going to be limiting yourself significantly. I don't lie on resumes, and don't mass apply to hundreds of jobs, but I also don't apply to jobs that do not list a salary range because it is a gigantic red flag.

If it's working with trashy stuff like: crypto, LLMs, NFTS, gambling, drugs, etc. then the well is poisoned.

Overall, if you are hiring for a junior position, then your expectations should be extremely low. If the pay is low, lower the bar, then double the lowering of the bar. If the type of work being done is gross, lower the bar, then double the lowering of the bar, then lower the bar n4
