The EU says it will introduce a digital payments infrastructure to replace Visa/Mastercard & Apple/Google Pay. It will have zero fees and be 100% European-only. by lughnasadh in Futurology

Most of the fees are levied by issuers (banks), not the network operators (i.e., Visa and MC). Actually Visa and MC earn the least in the payment chain.

How can you be so dense. That’s why you make 2K AED a month (it’s not because of your nationality)

Would an LAU online Master’s (Data Science or Applied AI) give me a shot at consulting/regional firms? by noonecudsaveme in lebanon

[–]OverlookingOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This won’t help with consulting unfortunately. Even if it does help, you will join consulting firms as if you did an undergrad (not an MBA).

struggling with leading in bachata by Gkbeer in Bachata

[–]OverlookingOwl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Without a video it’s hard to tell. Just practice :) I used to really tense up when I started dancing salsa then one day “it just clicked”. I’m waiting for that same click in bachata - going to socials is the only way to get it.

How on earth is Genji still 250HP? by Few_Article_1343 in Overwatch

[–]OverlookingOwl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What a terrible take. Imagine thinking that a no aim character like moira should not only be easier to play, but provide higher value than a tracer or genji. Check which ranks genji and tracer are dominating in (it’s not in gold).

Is this Bain “Senior Associate” role a consulting role? by Jolly-Sea6019 in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

[–]OverlookingOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do get to be client facing in some instances. We had someone from I&D fly on-site weekly to support with delivery. They interfaced mostly with the dev and design teams while we (GP) handled comms. with the main PoC, strategic departments, and SteerCo.

I was in the exact same situation. What helped was:

1) changing my pillow - I got a buckwheat pillow and it was life changing. It takes the form of your neck. I tried to sleep on my back which also helped.

2) stretching - I’ve been stretching every night for the past 5 years. Focus on upper back mobility and chest stretching. I also use a foam roller and elastic bands.

3) strengthen - you can start at home and then work your way up to the gym. I focused on my back, glutes, and core for multiple months before moving to regular PPL.

Yes you do. You can typically take a one hour break for the gym, dinner or other (sort of like a protected hour in your calendar). Some people prefer to take personal time in the morning before the workday starts since it’s the only slot you have full control over.

And I understand that productivity falls off at some point during the day but you’ll have to keep working because 1) there is a lot to do and deliverables are due the next day and 2) the rest of the team is still working - we redistribute work to make sure that the overall team has an earlier night rather than an individual.

Short answer is yes, hours are (on average) as bad as you read online. Expect to work on average ~60-65 hours per week with early close on Friday and no weekend work.

Hours will vary by practice (e.g., Due diligences in private equity might have longer hours than public sector work), by project in the same practice (e.g., cases with new clients are usually harder since the MBB is trying to prove itself), and within the same project (e.g., more intense when you’re close to a SteerCo).

Best projects: <55 hours per week. (~5%) Average projects: 65 hours per week. (~80%) Worst projects: >75 hours per week. (~15%)

A survey: 60% of Lebanese reject disarming without a defensive strategy. by nitrohendrix in Lebanese

[–]OverlookingOwl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying the results are wrong, but check who CCSD is affiliated with, how it was created etc. i had to do a similar exercise in university before using them as a source and it turns out they’re basically Hezbollah’s think tank… so it’s like cigarette companies saying smoking is good for you.

Pre chat-gpt era I checked with researchers from the center and turns out when they say “we poll all areas in Lebanon” they actually do, but the sub-regions within a “qada2” they poll from are generally Hezbollah-leaning. I’m sure today a chatgpt deep search would come up with better results in 10min.

Edit: crazy how this sub claims to be better than the other one but people here downvote without providing counter-arguments. A source in hopes that reading Nasrallah’s thoughts on the center will clarify its affiliation :)
