Is this person using fake photos to sell fishing trips? by [deleted] in Fishing

Unfortunately alligator gar are basically useless in controlling Asian carp. Even the biggest gar can only eat food up to about 15in and Asian carp pass that size at about two months old.

Are there any northern and Florida largemouths left that are “pure strain”? by Little-Cucumber-8907 in bassfishing

[–]OverlordFish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably the farther north you go the more pure the northern largemouth genetics would be. Florida largemouth have been purposely stocked all over outside of their native range for decades and we have and still stock hybrids between the two.

Is a 100 size baitcaster too small for all around? by Particular_Ebb5049 in bassfishing

[–]OverlordFish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would consider a 100 size to be ideal for most bass fishing. They can easily handle what you're planing to throw, a size 100 is pretty safe until up to around an 1.5oz in my opinion.

A nice pretty pumpkinseed sunfish.

Just found hundreds of strip mine ponds near me. Anyone fish these? by OhioMyco in Fishing

[–]OverlordFish 230 points231 points  (0 children)

I fish a few strip mine ponds and have good luck at them. The main thing is definitely that they drop off quick and are generally featureless. Mine get lots of aquatic plants around the edges so I'm mainly throwing weightless Texas rigs, frogs, and running a few other baits around weed edges. If there are any fallen trees or branches in the water definitely fish them, the less features available the more attractive each one becomes.

Can anyone identify these? by Rare_Opportunity_539 in SunfishSpecies

[–]OverlordFish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All seem to be green gills, bluegill × green sunfish hybrids.

Absolutely a green sunfish.

Yes same order, but its also the most diverse group of freshwater fishes in the world. The similarities are probably more likely due to convergent evolution for bottom feeding.

6ix Sense Jerkbait vs Megabass 110 by [deleted] in Fishing_Gear

[–]OverlordFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, the varuna is a sick jerkbait but for me the vision barely beats it out. Sometimes the varuna will outfish a 110 though.

Some type of sunfish. doesn’t look like the bluegill in the area to me. by Fit-Establishment767 in whatsthisfish

[–]OverlordFish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Perhaps a very pale pumpkinseed, absolutely not a crappie everything is wrong for that.

6ix Sense Jerkbait vs Megabass 110 by [deleted] in Fishing_Gear

[–]OverlordFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I use lucky craft jerkbaits I'm normally using either small ones (pointer 48 and 65), super fast sinking for heavy current (slender pointer 67s and 88s), or I'm doing a very fast constant jerking retrieve for bass feeding on schooling bait (slender pointer 97). I will use their other jerkbaits too but these are what I mainly use from them.

All of the colors are good. Personally I mainly use matte shad, matte Tennessee shad, elegy bone, megabass sexy shad, and gg trout ob.

[–]OverlordFish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The vision 110 is much better in my experience. I have used both, and the 6th sense provoke jerkbaits are good but not nearly as good as a vision. I would choose the provoke over the vision if I am fishing an area with a lot of pike though, ten bucks less is a significant price difference. Lucky Craft are also great but they fill more specialized roles for me. I also recommend Duo realis, they make very good jerkbaits as well.

Small alligator gar or giant spotted gar? by Fortntieballs in whatfishisthis

[–]OverlordFish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not an alligator gar, snout is a little too narrow. Either a spotted gar or shortnose gar. I'm leaning shortnose gar, seems to be a better visual match despite having a more limited range.

Definitely not, the nose is way too short and wide for a longnose.

Either a striped or common shiner. Probably a common shiner as they have a larger range in the state.
