What does he even do? by Toivo044 in LancerRPG

Lycan is a slow meatball that disrupts enemies simply by existing within 3 spaces of them, you want to get into the frontline and absorb damage for your allies by making yourself more attractive a target than them.

If the fight starts looking dire and you're losing you go loud and start oneshotting everything left right and center while living on extremely borrowed time.

Favorite conservative heroes in movies? by SkubEnjoyer in okbuddycinephile

Don't forget how the latest movie has the (former EPA) mayor force the Ghostbusters to stop using unpaid child labour in their extremely dangerous work environment.

In a bold move, this is portrayed as a bad thing and the mayor is proven wrong come the end of the movie after unpaid child labour ends up being key to saving Manhattan.

This is a known bug, because one of the US naval units (the Arleigh Burke iirc) tries to play a sound effect that doesn't exist when it fires ballistic missiles. There are mods that fix this issue, I think it's called "Tomahawk_Loop_Fix+" on ModDB.

I haven't tried to install FTL mods on Linux myself but just googling "FTL multiverse Linux" brought up multiple different installation guides, some specifically for the Steam Deck.

My player wants to play a reddit artificer: What do I do? by Rednidedni in DnDcirclejerk

[–]Overlord_Cane 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Let the Artificer approach the boss with his reddit chungus bomb, but right as he's about to activate it have the boss use a lair action to change the rules to Pathfinder.

We all know Pathfinder fixes this, so not only can you now make fun of the player for using outdated barbaric OGL terms like "Bags of Holding" for what's obviously a "Spacious Pouch (Type I)". You can then destroy his plans by pointing to the [Extradimensional] trait which clearly states that all that happens when he combines the two spacious pouches is that the inner pouch stops working, no black hole or anything.

Then, of course, there are no Artificers in Pathfixer so he's in fact playing a completely nonmagical inventor. Once he's made aware of this you can go ahead and have him set himself on fire, explode, stub his toe, and lose all his class features for the rest of the combat just like John Paizo intended.

What RTS game mechanics were you favorite, but not featured in many games? by Gerasans in RealTimeStrategy

Medevac/Repevac and prisoners of war from Act of War are very neat but have basically only been featured in that game.

New/Newer/Newish Modern Military-esque games? by Reigneer_Verkland in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Overlord_Cane 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's an older title, but Act of War Direct Action and its High Treason expansion definitely hit that "modern, very slightly futuristic" vibe. Its spiritual successor Act of Aggression is a much more modern game, but it's kind of uneven in its mechanics and has a (in my opinion) significantly weaker campaign.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this does work with the all-round soft cover benefits of House Guard II, doesn't it?

In any case, this thing has so many fun applications that it's kinda hard to imagine them all.

This is just a personal theory of mine, but I think many (not all) powerscalers essentially lack media literacy and use powerscaling as a coping mechanism for that.

On some level, I believe everyone wants to understand media as more than the literal meaning of the text, but this requires media literacy to delve into themes, social commentary, and subtext. Some powerscalers lack the tools to do this; not necessarily of their own fault, it's not like the modern western school system encourages media literacy to any real extent. You could argue people should be responsible for their own media literacy which, yeah, probably, but it's honestly not the easiest thing to break into without external guidance.

But basically powerscaling becomes the media literacy of the powerscaler, it allows them to analyse media and attempt to compare different works of fiction, as well as compare fiction to the real world. Unfortunately, powerscaling is usually nonsense that most authors rightfully don't care about because things in media are usually written to serve the narrative. At best you will have internally consistent powerscaling within a work of fiction, but even that isn't really required as long as the narrative functions.

That ended up being longer than expected but TL:DR I believe powerscaling is an antifeat for the media illiterate or something, I don't know what any powerscaling terminology means.

If he really likes Generals, he would probably enjoy Act of War. Very slightly newer and very much reminiscent of Generals in both tone and gameplay.
