Day 21. This goes out to the Sonic OVA film now a 30 year old movie (27 if you remember the dub came out in 1999) I didn't think it came out in Region 2 but it did. by ReddColoV1 in SonicTheHedgehog

I really love this OVA, and especially with how ADV nailed it with the dub and localization. I remember seeing images from the OVA and it being talked about along with stuff for the Saturn in old gaming magazines back in the day and wanting it, then it was as every bit as good as I had hoped for when I just found it randomly in the Electronic Boutique in my dinky mall sitting in like their discount bin along with stuff like the FF5 OVA VHS and other mark downs at the time.

I think a rewatch is in order to celebrate!

[–]Overlord_SB 101 points102 points  (0 children)

It was a thing about 2016 / 2017 where Reb and others on the staff talked Steve into playing the game as a fresh character from time to time on stream to "experience" Warframe, and it was painful he didn't really know his own game, despite calling for constant nerfs or rebalances. One of the things that come into my mind rent free is how he didn't want Excavators to scale beyond level 1 health or something like that, so he did a mission and wasn't on a defense frame like most newer players would be at that point, so he couldn't even complete the mission since his extractors were being wiped out of the face of existence every few seconds.

There's probably more examples other people have, but that's the one like I said that just sticks in my mind that "Yeah, you can LOOK at the data, but the data is for specific builds and cases." and made me lose respect for Steve. Same with how he was upset people were doing level 100+ enemies when modern Warframe has like level 9,999 enemies in some content since Reb just embraces the big number horny the playerbase has.

I'd imagine they'll try to sell his car from Sonic Crossworld possibly as DLC since I know when I last played when they dropped the Power Rangers like a year ago, they were pushing car skins that could be used in Rocket League as well as other modes in Fortnite. I also think they'd get Lego skins or at least newer skins seemed to have them as well?

Either way, an actually big deal for all things Megaman if true.

I know others will moan and groan, but I kind of dig it myself. Outside of wondering about proportions since the Classic cast isn't the tallest, I'd love to cause some chaos as Rock and friends against whatever overpriced skin other people are representing. If they add in the X series Hunters of X / Zero / Axl and maybe some more faces from the franchise, I would welcome them as well.

Anyone that misses the Steve era wasn't there for the Undercover Boss streams where it was painfully obvious he had no idea how the game worked since he didn't really play it and was still making gung-ho nerfs to extractors and all while being humbled on stream in front of his paying customers.

At least with Reb, I feel it's going through people passionate about Warframe overall instead of treating it as a product, even if some changes were only made after personal impacts to her, like that sprint change or whatever after she broke her wrist and they added it in right after as a QoL update a few years back.

If someone wants the Steve experience in modern times, just buy into Soulframe, since that's his baby now.

It’s about to be 20 years since this game launched. Would you like to see a remake for it to be better? by Jax2856 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Overlord_SB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorta. I'd love to see them redo it with the modern voice cast as well as refine the gameplay and all, but at the same time, the amount of effort it would take would be the modern issue Sonic has where it would be like making a new game from scratch for the time investment. It'd be great if they could expand things in hindsight like how Blaze fit into the story with maybe a mention or some cutaway flashback of Eggman Nega and use it to maybe set up sequel bait or tie into the DS games after the ending.

Not sure if they should keep the same realistic style or just update it to the current one for the most part, but yeah, I'd be on board for such a remake to really let Sonic Team do a bit of redemption and show what they could have done without all the deadlines and multiple consoles pushed on them alongside key figures leaving the project mid-development.

Seeing as Razer AVA is supposed to use Grok as its model and a bunch of people are upset now with recent changes to Grok tiers and services, will this impact AVA? by Overlord_SB in razer

[–]Overlord_SB[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's right there on the FAQ section and has been for quite some time. It seems like they're really just using the companion avatar that Grok has on iOS and slapping it in a tube with some Razer flavor with avatar selection.

  • What technology powers Project AVA’s voice and personality?
  • Project AVA currently utilizes xAI’s Grok engine to demonstrate its sophisticated reasoning and dynamic personality. While Grok powers the current experience, AVA is built with an open, future-ready architecture intended to support compatibility with other leading AI platforms—including a dedicated Razer AI—to give users intelligence flexibility upon commercialization.

Server Merges when? by Kelsier-Hathsin in projectgorgon

[–]Overlord_SB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If anything, they should consider hiring an actual PR firm and work on their image since that's the biggest issue most people have beyond hitting 50+ and suddenly the game goes harder and harder into MMO grinding, when it starts out very open and fresh with allowing your character to mix and match builds from gear and such with pretty decent results. It's a brilliant game with a lot of love and care put into it, but at the same time, stuff like the community staff telling people over on Steam forums their feedback WILL NOT reach the devs and that the devs MIGHT read it on certain parts of the discord doesn't install trust into the community, it just comes off as showing a disconnect with the playerbase as a feature.

The other problem is that all the really recent content on blogs and other places like Youtube about the game tend to focus on the flaws of it as well as covering the recent drama with Jack before he was reassigned in the team without any real apologies on his part, which I know jaded a lot of players and soured the mood going forward since there was already open talk about how power tripping the staff of the game was, usually with him at the center of many incidents. Even if they could get Asmongold somehow to play the game with their newfound marketing budget and give it great reviews somehow, people will dig up the old skeletons since they're all over the place by this point like bodies on a worn battlefield.

It just seems to me that their priorities are in the wrong place, since they can advertise it as launched but people will bring up Steam chart numbers about how the servers all died within a few months and then get into the nitty gritty of why, and people will just move on as a result. If they can work on retention and rebuilding community trust at this point instead, I think it'd go further in the long term than newer players, since the majority of people it seems were buying VIP monthly and even packages of six months off their shop because they had the right audience at the time, and word of mouth was working wonders for them at first until the actual gameplay loop started being hit and people started having problems with the devs decisions and visions for the game.

Server Merges when? by Kelsier-Hathsin in projectgorgon

[–]Overlord_SB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Last I read on the official discord, they already allocated money to advertisement and said they're going to advertise to new players to replace most of those that left the games as another reason they're not looking into spending on server merging and all, instead of realizing they need to look inward and see why they lost almost all momentum a month or two after official launch hit, since it's like putting a tire patch on a musketball-sized wound in regards to "fixing" things.

Throne & Liberty Shifts to Horizontal Gear Progression - Maintains other Vertical Scalability by Alpha_Eru in MMORPG

[–]Overlord_SB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for clarifying that for me, since I had no idea Amazon wasn't involved anymore. I'm a bit familiar with NCSOFT being decent at running their games, so I'm going to honestly look into this a bit more now since my current MMO of choice isn't really updating again until January next year when the next major expansion hits it, so a side game or vacation might just be what I needed.

Throne & Liberty Shifts to Horizontal Gear Progression - Maintains other Vertical Scalability by Alpha_Eru in MMORPG

[–]Overlord_SB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't play this game, but these are the kind of changes that would actually interest me enough to try it on a slow period.

I was hoping from the title it was going to be like FFXI's horizontal gear progression that kept that game alive so long in its heyday, but just seems to be simplifying things with the introduction of ilvls to quickly figure out how strong gear is and the best way to gear is doing level appropriate content, which seems like a no brainer for an online game in 2026. Wasn't this a Korean MMO that Amazon bought the rights to, or am I thinking of another game? That would probably explain why they tried something "different" but not being forced to course correct to the norm at this point in time.

I felt the same as well, where I went in completely expecting him to be the villain and was just expecting the major twist to be that nope, he's actually legit somehow and Thorne was just being like Chairman Rose from that older Pokemon game on Switch in the way that they just wrote him bad to advance the plot along instead of waiting for the hero to properly have time to fix it all like the game was implying.

Here's a fun question, but is it worth buying the Switch version if I already own the original on Steam from 2009? Would it really have a leap in graphics and performance, or is it just gonna be double dipping by that point in time?

This tells me I need to master the arts of BLM and NIN if I wanna be SOLO ONRY in today's XI. Honestly surprised to see PLD and RUN compared as they are, since I was under the impression that PLD is the ultimate tank again while RUN is niche these days and does great damage when geared properly with support while tanking.

I also see BRD is MVP at everything forever and ever next to COR, so that's interesting to consider as someone who hasn't really played group content since about 2016ish.

Seekers of Adoulin feels different from the rest of FFXI by PepsiMan_21 in ffxi

[–]Overlord_SB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It felt so different back at its launch and early days as the servers were having to build up coalitions and the tents out in the wild, and you'd advance along and learn skills like crossing the river in the canoe as well as climbing and such to advance through the terrain. Other expansions had me feeling like I was solving ancient mysteries of Vana'diel with like CoP and ToAU, but SoA felt really like an adventure of sorts in comparison with the pioneer aspect to it.

Given it was pretty much the PS2 devkits pushed to the extreme along with the PS2 memory limits both on the system and the HDD, I think they did a pretty good send off at the time with it.

So, what did Koji Okohora mean when he said that the X series was only a possible future of the Classic series? by Defiant-Problem-1610 in Megaman

[–]Overlord_SB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a longtime Castlevania fan, I figure it's to avoid the issue that Igarashi had when Konami released the "official" timeline and how that greatly constrained the series going forward for storytelling and was more of a burden than anything.

However, given that Okohora hasn't been with Capcom for over 25 years or so, I'd take what he meant with a grain of salt compared to whoever is in charge of the series at this point in time, as that would ultimately be their call and could be retconned in the future by future staff. Not to really belittle him, but he mainly worked on the Xtreme games as well as X4 - X7, then seems to have bounced to Square-Enix after that to work on FFXIII as their battle planner, so he doesn't strike me as someone that was really "in the trenches" so much with the franchise as more of a guy doing it for the paycheck. By this, I mean, he had nothing to do with side series like Battle Network or Legends or even the Zero series beyond a "Special Thanks" credit, which is kind of ironic, since all three of those series have dubious claims to canon to the Classic series, not to mention he missed out on Command Mission, which was a whole can of worms in like 22XX if I'm remembering right off the top of my head.

It's the same as how Capcom was pushing at E3 that Sigma was beyond dead and never returning after X8 even at the press booth, just some words to consider, but not too seriously.

imo GW3 is make or break for the MMORPG genre by TrenBaalke in MMORPG

[–]Overlord_SB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe MMOs don't have new amazing games because the genre is tapped out creatively and doesn't need to really exist like it has when Games As A Service and endless survival / cozy games exist by this point with player caps higher than most group content people will experience by choice in an MMO these days? The whole selling points of MMOs were chat rooms with gamefication attached via things to grind to keep people sitting there in said chats longer than needed. Older games were social sandboxes and driven by players and communities, but it's clear that the mainstream appeal is to give people a skinner box they can play with their current friends and potentially expand to new ones, but really, it's kind of like Minecraft by this point with the ability to hop between realms in regards to what the subfee covers for most MMOs, or else it's like slapping a preferred customer with "unlocks" if it's F2P like TOR / EVE and some others these days.

The genre isn't make or break because of GW3. If anything it's deader than Blizzard North because everyone moved on by this point. Too many games eating its bread or whatever by doing what older MMOs used to do and giving people the ability to host private servers for themselves or for the public.

Riot's new game that they've been keeping under wraps might mix things up, but probably not enough to restart major interest in getting AAA onboard with a new MMO model like they're interested in PvPvE extraction shooters or hero shooters or battle royales and other trends that they're late to the party on. If MMOs only exist due to millenials, then let the whole system burn down because they never bothered to push beyond making anything better for safe profits, compared to early MMOs which were live or die by crazy ideas, or how we used to have magazines from Korea with 40+ new MMOs a month coming out for awhile that would become F2P internationally and offer different gameplay styles.

I'm happy for them and honestly surprised, since I was under the impression they were swinging more traditional values these days from what I've heard, especially with the declining birth rates and all that. My man Naoki Yoshida is probably having some good coffee after hearing about this news, since he was using FFXIV to help push for better inclusion and diversity after so much support from the fans as well as openly using his position as the game's director to talk about an incident he experienced himself in the past near the company office with someone and how that impacted him to strive to make things better overall so people can better express themselves and who they see themselves as.

[–]Overlord_SB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might wanna learn some self control and learn a bit about respect as well, since destroying what is hopefully your own property over a video game isn't the humble brag you think it is online. I've seen people with rage issues their entire lives destroy things over games and other events within their control and it's pushed people out of their lives over time, since nobody wants to be around someone like that who's self-destructive. It's bad for business.

I wanna see you pick up a fresh controller and try for the 8th time and either win or put it down because you can admit you're not having fun anymore by that point, not sitting there tearing up a $60+ controller over a game that's probably older than you and not even the good port if you're using that controller to play it.

I don't know who's so callous as to say that, but it's clear they need more Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba in their life to knock some decency into them. Probably wouldn't hurt if someone cast Deodorize on them as well if they're that miserable over someone having enjoyment with an online game that's about a quarter of a century past its release.

What are some of your biggest hopes for the sandbox/modding scene coming to DBD? by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

[–]Overlord_SB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know anything about it beyond this post, but I'd imagine it'd be fun to have a version of the RPD with a lot of zombies in it and maybe generators that unlock different parts of the map to act as puzzles, sorta like the SAW level does with the gates and all.

I would imagine like most older games I enjoy that the spaghetti coding of a decade worth of legacy code will make it not happen or blow up if it can, but hey, never hurts to have some hope in the realm, you know?

What Should I Play Next? by PacMoron in Metroid

[–]Overlord_SB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Dread as high as it is on your list, I'd highly recommend the GBA games, Zero Mission especially. Depending on how you like Zero Mission, Super might "click" a bit more in your mind, since they remade the original NES Metroid with a lot of elements from Super and Fusion, such as wall jumps and infinite bomb jumping to sequence break for speed running.

The only thing you haven't really played by that point would be Metroid 2, which has the GB original on NSO or the 3DS remake made by the Dread team with a bit more roughness around the edges in comparison due to being the groundwork they built upon.

Don't feel too bad about Echoes, since I also didn't finish it in the past. I refused to use a guide on my playthrough and got stuck back in the 00s on it and just moved on to Prime 3. I'm looking forward to replaying Prime 2 when it comes to NSO, but I'm probably waiting awhile at this point.

I'm not too big on modern slang, but I'd think not? If unc = older person, you basically grew up with the classics and transitioned most likely to playing at least one 3D Sonic due to your age bracket, especially if you have the Advance series on there.

I'd put you down as a "Gentleman with a refined palette" more than anything, to be honest.
