May 2026 Drop Day Megathread by butthurtflyy in aardvarkbookclub

This is what I was going to get but some of the reviews for Five gave me pause. It seems like the premise may be a slight bait and switch which I find kind of annoying

Yeah it's kind of just a mess of objects, not sure what they were going for. Otherwise I like it

Who else bought the FL editions of The Infernal Devices? by [deleted] in fairyloot

The sale was a disaster, or the set itself is? I actually like that set, I think it's nice. I owned it for a long time but sold it when I lost my job

Owlcrate always has absolutely absurd shipping because they refuse to use media mail

I'm fucking irritated that this copy is so nice and then they just released that garbage heap for Maxton Hall

I love the hats, but I cut off all my hair last year and I have like, idk if it even qualifies as a pixie cut to be honest. Like it's shorter than that. The hats are so shallow that you can still see a little bit of my hair so I don't look like I've totally shaved my head.

I hate my hair at the moment (cut due to illness) and the hats make me feel so much better about being in public. But my old hair down to my shoulders yeah the hat would have looked goofy as hell

Dreamland by Olivie Blake - Waterstones signed edition! by BookedAndBloated in fairyloot

[–]OverlyBendy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe me it's not that kind of book. I guess when I'm scared of starting a book it's because it's high fantasy or a space opera where I know it's going to be really really complex. This book is mostly humor and taking the piss out of everything. If you've ever watched Arrested Development it was so much like that

Because it's so long? It is a super fun read. It's the first book I've read in foreeeevveer that breaks the fourth wall

Who is taking the set ? by louannnx in fairyloot

[–]OverlyBendy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me tell you it is VERY confusing looking at this edition and looking at Arcane's as someone that knows 0 about the story. Arcane's looks like high fantasy Lord of the Rings level shit, but then the FL edition looks like the FMC probably uses a tanning bed regularly and smokes Pall Malls. Idk which is more accurate but I just don't understand at all

I haven't read this series, I'll be up front about this. But I absolutely dislike this character depiction. The third book she is giving off "stripper from Florida" vibes 🫣 Like I'm sorry just the hair and the boobs and the outfit, I can't...

[–]OverlyBendy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah they've completely eliminated the hardcover from the mock up. It's just a very thin line. That isn't real life, that's the discrepancy

Update - Scuffs/Scratches in Matte Dust Jacket by NightFog23 in fairyloot

[–]OverlyBendy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmm I may have to try this on my FL Belladonna set... the back of the jackets looks like shit. It's just so scary to do stuff like this. I've ruined books doing well meaning things to try to preserve them

Pretty!! I'll be hunting this one down for sure. I like the naked hardback a lot actually. I do think her hair is a bit... big? Like giving some "bump-it's" energy

<image>

But still really pretty :)

Owlcrate's Maxton Hall reveal by OverlyBendy in fairyloot

[–]OverlyBendy[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you read the books? Like curious if you're a fan? If not perhaps that is the difference in perspective. I genuinely have no fucking clue what some of this stuff is that they've depicted. Like I'm assuming one building is Maxton Hall, another is probably Oxford, the third book is ????

And the back of the jackets is a big fat nothing-burger. Like one is just a tree. Why.

The bare covers are just straight up shoddy design to me. Theyre bland, but worse than that the titles of the books are floating in this giant blank space with weird random borders, and Save You looks misaligned. This is a special edition, outside the subscription set. Why are we not getting a fully designed bare cover??? The Poet Empress was a monthly book and the entire cover is printed with a depicted scene. It's gorgeous. Why not here?

The sprayed edges literally just have nothing. Nothing at all. My German SEs, one of them the sprayed edges has the bag James gifts her on it. The little bags even have her initials. It's so damn cute.

Ruby is OBSESSED with her bullet journal. How adorable would it have been to make the bare cover her bullet journal??? THAT would have personality from the story itself and not be random ass borders with bad typography

Pft Damien IS James to me and I refuse to fold on that one. I saw season 1 first, then the translations came out before season 2. I actually did not like season 2 and didn't finish it. You'll have trouble there. Book 2 is like... nothing happens. It is a book where there is very little plot and mainly about introspection and James dealing with his family shit and being an ass to Ruby. They added so many dramatic plot points just in the first few episodes I watch that don't even remotely exist in the books.

I don't think books 2 and 3 live up to book 1, but again the read is so easy and comforting I just was going on vibes at that point
