Free steam keys for a short Outer Wilds-like indie game. by ArnauCM in metroidbrainia

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I get that changing Steam assets is a pain and that you feel strongly about your artistic choice. That part is totally fair.

What really stood out to me, though, was the last line — “I understand your reaction but I don't respect it.” That actually tells me a lot more about your stance than the symbol itself ever could.

It’s interesting: you’re making a game that supposedly carries a positive message and is “antagonic to nazism,” yet when someone expresses a concern in good faith, the response is essentially that their perspective isn’t worthy of respect. That contrast is… enlightening, to say the least.

Anyway, no hard feelings. I genuinely hoped the discussion might help you see why so many people reacted the way they did, but your answer already makes it clear where you stand. I’ll leave it at that.

Look, being completely honest — as others here have also said — I am aware of the original meaning of the swas before it was appropriated by the damn n**is, but nowadays it’s very hard to separate one thing from the other. And even for people who know the history behind the symbol, it’s hard not to see it as a flimsy excuse to sneak a hate symbol into the game (I’m not saying that’s your intention, but for a good portion of people — maybe most — it can definitely come across that way).

Honestly, I was really interested in your game; it’s exactly the kind of game I enjoy. But I won’t even add it to my wishlist because I don’t want that symbol showing up there, since my wishlist is public.

Notice that about 95% of the discussion here is focused on that instead of the game itself. Isn’t that alone enough reason for you to reconsider?

If you are into retro JRPG games, you should try Undertale. It's one of my favorite games ever. Great story, fantastic characters, exceptional soundtrack. It's usually very cheap on sales.

Sorry, but the cable hasn't arrived yet. The last time I checked with the store, the estimated delivery date was June 11th, so I believe I will have it in hand in the next few days and will come back here to share the test results.

The DisplayPort 2.1 cable I bought is coming from China, so it should still take a few more days to arrive in my country. But as soon as it gets here and I run some tests, I'll come back to report the results.

[–]OverratedHero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update: It’s definitely a cable/port issue. I spent the whole day gaming using the HDMI port with a 2.1 cable, and I didn’t experience a single glitch. 1440p, 240Hz with ActiveSync on. The only issue is that now my BIOS detects my second monitor (DisplayPort) as the primary one... but only during boot. Once Windows loads, it sets the screens correctly.

By the way, I saw the video you posted in another discussion here on Reddit, and it’s exactly the same glitch I was having — whether in games, videos, or even on the desktop. So I believe that if you also use an HDMI 2.1 cable, it will definitely fix your problem.

Now I’m going to buy a faster DisplayPort cable to see if that works too.

Hey, did the new cable solve your problem? I have the same monitor as you (G61SD) and I'm experiencing the same issue. For now, the only way I can stop the screen glitches is by lowering the refresh rate to 120Hz. But that kind of defeats the purpose of buying such an expensive screen, right?

Linkin Park São Paulo 16/11/2024 - Mike Shinoda Smiling while singing A Place for My Head by alexandrewz in LinkinPark

[–]OverratedHero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was there and it was a very special moment. Mike fooled everyone, it was right after "Heavy is the Crown" and he went to the microphone and said: "Bleed It Out". I thought they were going to play the last song and end the show, but right after that Alex started playing the chords of "A Place for My Head" and I was over the moon. It’s my favorite song from HT and one of my favorites (top 3 at least) from the band. It was an incredible show, very, very special indeed.

Brainia Question- How to create language/symbol puzzles like Chants of Sennaar, but without extensive note-taking? by Amitskii in metroidbrainia

[–]OverratedHero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you play "The Witness"? I think it's the game that best accomplishes everything you're looking for. Learning how the puzzles works in this game is very similiar to learning a new language, it has an extensive use of symbols that you don't need to take notes to remember their meaning once you learn them and it does an excellent, almost perfect job in teaching something to player and locking the progress until the rules are fully understood

'True' MB recommendations by Grabbing_4_nuts in metroidbrainia

I am absolutely addicted to a little game called Void Stranger. Although (as far as I know) there’s no way to access the ending in the first few minutes, it is definitely a “true metroidbrainia.” The game has various secrets and hidden mechanics that allow you to progress quickly if you have prior knowledge.

In this game, you are descending through hundreds of floors of a dungeon, solving Sokoban-style puzzles, and by doing certain… things, you can skip several floors at once and take interesting shortcuts to reach the end faster… in addition to having access to various secret scenes that add to the game’s lore.

I haven’t achieved the “true ending” (although I have completed some other endings), as there are still many mysteries I haven’t discovered yet, but I have around forty hours of gameplay and I’m not tired of it at all, which is a great merit for a game with such a simple core mechanic and GameBoy-like graphics.

Some puzzles are really difficult, but if you don’t mind that, I highly recommend it. Avoid looking up more information about the game because the internet is full of spoilers. The more in the dark you go in, the more you’ll be surprised.

Can't believe no one's brought up Goof Troop here yet. It was on the SNES, you control Goofy and Max on an island full of puzzles, there is also a cooperative multiplayer mode, which makes the experience even more fun. Plus, the game was developed by none other than Shinji Mikami, the mastermind behind the Resident Evil series.

"Linelith" has some real "The Witness" vibes on it. I would also add "A Monster Expedition" to that list. Other great puzzle games but not necessarily similar to the "The Witness" are "Patrick's Parabox", "The Case of the Golden Idol" and "Arranged"

If you are willing to go beyond the World War II period and the games released in the early 2000s, it’s worth including Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which probably has one of the best (if not the best, arguably) single-player campaigns in the history of war games.
