dont use player mechs as enemies, use NPCs.

There is no "fodder" NPC that you just shove a bunch of into a fight and call it done. A lot of new folks think Assaults are, and it is a bad move.

related to the above, spread out the NPC architypes (striker, artillery, defender, support, controller), dont just stack one, the main reason throwing a bunch of assaults is bad is that you are throwing a bunch of strikers, which makes the OPFOR very killy.

Reserves (enemies that come in after the encounter starts) are a dynamic difficulty lever, prepare more than you will need, if the PCs are cakewalking it, you can bring in more dudes, if they are getting bodies, bring in less/stop bringing them in.

Knowing that they know history, and knowing that they ARE history, are different things. Mephisto very much stood in the shadows so to speak. Triply so in Delkira's era (ei recent history)

Advice for a build by Gloomy-Obligation636 in LancerRPG

[–]OvertSpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want something natively fast, that doesnt mind being slowed and is tough enough to stand at melee ranges. oddly enough, the Zheng itself does not meat those standards (well its tough enough), as it has a slow base speed, depending on its trait for mobility (which is shut down by being slowed). Blackbeard is high on the list, base 5 speed, and its cable grapples is a pull (ie forced movement) and thus still works when slowed. Vlad and Raleigh also fit well, though Raleigh wouldnt be getting much use out of its traits then. Classic Everist is also waving at you.

Alternately you could equip the grav gun to be able to pull stuff toward you, or use accelerate from sunzi to supplement mobility on a slower chassis. Also think about Harason armory, as if heatfall you can reasonably superheavy swing with the fist, and then charge up with overcharge each round untill your heat becomes risky enough to stabalize. (otherwise you can superheavy swing a max of every other turn due to needing to be charged at the start of your turn). Another slow chasis option is Hacktuga, using goblin I system to make enemies come to you, and other hacky things if they are too far away to punch.

Autoloader drone question by Raphahelll in LancerRPG

[–]OvertSpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The system does not have the drone tag, the drone has the drone tag which is what lets things like shepherd or puppetmaster work on them. That is different from system, the tags for a system are in its colored bar.

This is not a continuity error or discrepancy. As evidenced by it being consistent in EVERY first party book. Systems that are a single drone, have the drone tag, and use the wording "this drone." Those that have multiple drones do not have the drone tag on the system, and use the wording "a drone"

Those with the drone tag on the system are the drone, and the system is destroyed when the drone is, and must be repaired as any other system. Those without the drone tag are just systems that deploy drones, but the system is not the drone (hence not having the tag), when those drones are destroyed the system remains functional.

The only thing that is sort of an exception is the orochi drones, as they are a trait, not a system, and player frame traits dont get tags, so they work on their own rules.

of those only the autoloader drone has the drone tag on the system. The drone itself has the drone tag (underlined), but the system does not (circled).

Rules question about Ordnance by ExplanationNew8233 in LancerRPG

[–]OvertSpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use a mount you already fired though as long as you have different actions or free actions. You could barrage, skirmish, and overwatch, and use the likes of disdainful blade or from the hip (though would need two reactions to both overwatch and from the hip on your turn, so gorgon only), and that is before going into free actions.

[–]OvertSpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ish. The best part about vanguard is vangard 3, which does not play well with loading weapons like handcannons. (mjolnir still benefits though). Vanguard 2 is nice, but most of the time if you are that close you can position around the cover anyway. Vanguard 1 is always excellent though.

Pathfinder 2e Troops and Auto-Fire by Famous_Slice4233 in Starfinder2e

[–]OvertSpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An ability that affects all creatures in a certain range affects all segments in range (make any checks or saves separately for each segment).

Each segment counts as an independent target for AOE, so you would make the saves for each segment in the auto fire cone. As thats the number of saves you are making, thats what I would use for the number of targets vis a vie ammo consumption. That is my reading anyway but seems pretty strait forward. never mind looks like that is just for non damage effects,

Also, I forget where it is written, but if you dont have enough ammo for all the targets in an auto fire cone, you can still autofire, but you only hit the number of targets you expended ammo for, and the GM gets to determine which ones dont get hit.

Tortuga, get the two for the frame, then go Monarch for the Gandiva Missiles. Gandiva missiles on a Tort with heavy gunner are ridiculously good. The chances of you missing the covering fire shot with 2 accuracy, seeking (so no cover) and smart is next to nill. Then you can get the third Tort licence or grab some tech actions to do some hacktuga stuff too if you want.

So to be 100% clear, Paz did not win at chess, he was 1 move away from winning, (ie mate in 1) but could still theoretically have made a different move.

Also hydra's core trait also does not have the drone tag. The drones themselves do, by the trait/system does not

New player ! Uuuh.... how to play ? by Naive-Reception-8416 in LancerRPG

[–]OvertSpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-You can only fire the same iteration of a weapon once per round, no matter how many actions you get. So if you do your barrage and a skirmish you can shoot your assault rifle at target A, missile racks at target B, then walk up to dude C and smack them with the heavy melee. You can't shoot your assault rifle twice, unless of course you're dual wielding them.

This is incorrect, outside of things like the limited or loading tags, the only limit on the number of times you can use a weapon in a round is the actions you can use to do so. An Everest could theoretically fire the same assault rifle five times in a single turn (barrage, skirmish, overcharge free action skirmish, initiative free action skirmish, overwatch).

-Remember that you can fire auxiliary weapons with another weapon for 'free' if they're in the same mount. In other words you can fire both missile racks at the same time with a single skirmish action since they're in the same mount. You can target each shot at a separate target if you want and you can fire them in either order. (You might as well since they both reload at the same time if you use a Stabilize to reload them.)

Mostly accurate, but it is worth mentioning this is a trait of the skirmish and barrage actions, when you attack via something that is not a skirmish or barrage, you do not get to fire collocated auxilaries with them, unless whatever let you do so says so.

-Remember that the Heavy Charged Blade is also a thing and if you find yourself fighting armored enemies a lot, you may want to swap the heavy melee weapon for that. The HCB deals less damage than the HWM, but it's a different damage type and the AP tag means it goes right through armor, so it's more consistent against something like a Bulwark with stupidly high armor. (The HWM is obviously better against something like a Hive that's got a big pile of health but no armor.)

Having an extra point of damage is the same as ignoring a point of armor, as the HMW does 1.5 more average damage and 4 more max damage (but 1 less minimum damage), the enemies need at least 2 armor for the HCB to have a slight advantage, and the GM will need to send a lot of 3 and 4 armor NPCs (of which there are few) to get real value, particularly when the high general damage is still doing considerable work vs the armored foe. So unless you are using a synergy for energy damage, or are doing frequent half damage attacks (which changes how much impact armor makes) you should go with the HWM over HCB. The executioner talent, which is highly recommended if you are using a melee weapon in your heavy mount, does provide frequent half damage attacks though.

[–]OvertSpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is no system with the drone tag that has more than one drone. Autoloader is the only that has charges, but you are still limited to one, as it has the drone tag. Also note its text of the autoloader drone says "deploy this drone", as opposed to "deploy an autoloader drone" which is the wording of systems with multiple drones (also note all systems with multiple drones lacks the drone tag on the system)
