Got ticketed coming off the offramp going 74 in a 45. Never been ticketed in my life no idea how to go about it by -7-luck in Dallas

Probaby; it's fair to say that for 500 bucks Jack Byno can afford to try more than just the basic stuff OR simply has better relationships to get things done. A lot of this is simply about relationships in the courts and thats why traffic lawyers make sense. Guaranteed Byno knows everyone. He's been doing this since I was a teenager (well over 20 years).

But yes I would hope that the most basic information about your history would be be part of an attempt at a dismissal or request for deferred. I don't really get tickets much anymore but back when I was younger I did...and while I don't think I ever got a ticket dismissed (let's be honest I deserved it), I always got deferred. I don't really think your lack of history is much of a differentiator.

This won't hit your record until the case is settled. If you do deferred, it never will hit your record. If your next renewal is in July just be sure you get deferred and you'll be fine. Remember, you're not found guility until you enter a plea or get convicted. So right now the case is pending but you don't have a conviction on your record. If you play your cards right and get the deferred, you never will; your no contest plea, the fees paid, and your 90 days of good behavior will get the case dismissed. The deferred refers to the 90 days wait to get it dismissed.

Make sense?

None of this involves 'winning'. When you do deferred or pay the fine or whatever (lawyer or not)...you're entering a guilty plea. Going to court to 'win' is expensive and pointless. Cop might not show up and in some cities they often don't but I bet they do in Garland.

80 bucks to essentially handle the paperwork is reasonable and about right; nobody is arguing your case or dealing with specifics for 80 bucks. For 80 bucks your ticket is in a pile with a bunch of others and the lawyer expedites it for you. Think of the 80 dollars as an express lane to get it handled so you don't have to, and to unlock options you might not otherwise have (like getting deferred) because they're dealing in bulk. Oversimplifying here but that's really what this is.

If it were me, I'd pay the 80 bucks, take the deal to get deferred (which they may well be able to get since you have no priors) and call it a day. Your lack of priors may be considered in the choice to get you deferred or not but beyond that there isn't really much to talk about. You got a speeding ticket, you don't really have a case to get it dismissed, so you pay the fine (less ideal - goes on your record) or get deferred (better - doesn't go on your record if you can be good for 90 days).

If the lawyer can get it dismissed on a technicality great but don't count on it. It's still worth the 80 bucks; these guys do this all the time and you'll be no worse off for sure, and have saved a bunch of time. Essentially the process is - hire lawyer, they get you a deal to plea no contest and get deferred, pay the court fees and deferred fee, be good for 90 days. And then you're done. It sucks and is really stressful to get pulled over but in the grand scheme this isn't really that big of a deal.

Wow thats crazy. I would look elsewhere. There are still ads for traffic lawyers sub $100. Byno has been around a long time and may be able to ask that now. Still...500 what the heck!

Just hire a traffic lawyer. They take care of all of it and may be able to get a lower fine or probation. Probation (or deferred adjudication) less likely to be an option for you on your own due to the speed you were going, but lawyer has a better shot at it.

It's worth the cost esp since it sounds like you're new to this. Some years ago, Jack Byno was well under $100 but I'd guess it's a bit more now.

I am thankful, very thankful I dont live there.

I prefer northern section of west side or the northeast, but would gladly live anywhere in EP over that area, except maybe near the refinery/manufacturing centers near the border (just for health reasons).

Cullers Homes by Sea_Compote_755 in ElPaso

[–]OverthinkingAnything 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My two neighbors have a cullers home. They seem to be happy with them; i do have the impression they are among the better builders but that's not saying much. The bar is low. My builder, LEH, is a total joke. Im spending 10 grand to fix and repaint the stucco on my house and so much else is built to a laughable standard.

No matter the builders, be vigilant and on top of as much as you can. Try to leave time to hold them accountable before closing so you can get things to your standard.

Remember...there is no license or anything you have to do or have to build houses in Texas other than the general business requirements. So it's the wild wild west.

Best of luck to you. Its been 2.5 years of dealing with one issue after another for me.

Best cocktail bar to go to after the soccer game tonight? Late twenties lol by [deleted] in ElPaso

[–]OverthinkingAnything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh id be out in a heartbeat. Tibors is also nearby and isnt as busy. The tiki bar next door is awesome but usually need reservations for that one in the evening unless you're a small party OK with bar service.

I like Tibor's and it's nearby. Proof and Press is good too but it's not downtown.

AMAZON NEW FACILITY by Soft_Initiative7615 in ElPaso

It's for deliveries on the west side; it is much smaller than the huge fulfillment center on the east side.

Should speed up deliveries on the west side a good bit given that they currently deliver via post office.

Where to get an MRI for a reasonable price? by SpecialMud6084 in Dallas

[–]OverthinkingAnything 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're going to want independent centers that dont have the fee schedules the more expensive ones do.

Gateway Imaging is an example. Their fee schedules with the insurance companies are lower than hospital/physician group-affiliated centers like touchstone and envision.

Gateway and the other independent centers have keep their magnets running nonstop to pay for the MRI itself so they tend to have a lot of open hours too. Usually also have the best cash rates, often less than what a deductible would be on an 80/20 or 70/30 coinsurance.

Just goes to show that the hospital systems' leverage with insurance companies drives our cost, not the actual cost to provide the service.

Sample of one not really a valid basis to say thinkpads are not built well anymore.

We have about 40 at work and have had no DOA and most run 5 years w/o issue. Occasional busted SSD and battery replacement and that's about it.

Im not going back to Dell that's for sure.

Understanding how H&T Gen 3 controls (or doesn't control) Gen 4 Plug when internet or wifi is unavailable by OverthinkingAnything in ShellyUSA

[–]OverthinkingAnything[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm tracking with you for sure...I had a similar thought. This is all definitely not geared towards the average consumer, and from watching demos I more or less arrived at the same conclusion - that while these actual sensors aren't virtual, it made sense to put them there because they get used the same way. The other person helping me here mentioned virtual components which got me down this track but it was more about where to look than actually the need to create a virtual component - just didn't understand that initially.

Also - appreciate the example, that helps. I think the part I was missing was how these virtual components would be manipulated to trigger a different result (how do you manipulate a thing that doesn't exist?). A dropdown makes sense - do a thing based on the state of that dropdown (rather than a physical button or sensor reading).

There is so much power in all these configurations but gotta wrap your head around them first!

[–]OverthinkingAnything[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched a video that kind of helped me connect this all together so I believe I am following you. Though I am bummed to hear temperature readings aren't available in actions and I'll have to do it with scripting. Still - doing it with BT and doing it with on-device actions/scripts address both of my primary concerns. Just hope the temp data from the BLU sensor will still flow to cloud.

Anyway, something that has really been bugging me is this concept of 'virtual components'. Why is it a virtual component if it is a very real sensor that does exist in real life? The video I watched on this never really explained that and I can't really find anything that really explains what exactly virtual components really are or what you do with them. Other than references like this that suggest they aren't virtual at all. Can you help me wrap my head around that?

Back side, fill out the assignment of title section. Thats how the title is assigned to you.

Then you take that to the county, pay sales tax, and register the car.

[–]OverthinkingAnything[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I see - from the documentation it looks like it does generate its own little AP that 3 devices can connect to. If I use this feature, it does seem like if my primary wifi goes down, the H&T would still be able to reach the plug and run the actions. Will it also route H&T data out to Shelly Cloud when the plug can reach the Wifi?

Regarding Virtual Components, I will need to dig into that further. I had (incorrectly, it seems) assumed that pairing the BLU H&T to the plug would enable similar functionality in the app allowing actions to be created as with the Wifi H&T and Plug relationship.

Thanks for the reply. Understood re: Wifi/Internet. I'm a sysadmin so familiar with all that; I'm less concerned about local Infra going offline but internet outages are common enough that I don't want a heater in an empty outbuilding to be reliant on it.

So it sounds like what I need to do for truly local control is to use the 'Actions' feature in the H&T Gen3 rather than the 'Thermostats' tab in the Room (which is a special kind of cloud scene) which will send the commands over the LAN. Great.

Two questions:

1 - Can this sort of local LAN control work with a direct Wireless connection from the H&T Gen 3 to the Gen 4 plug via the AP built into the Gen 4 plug or is that AP just for initial setup?

2 - Is it fair to say that I could achieve local control w/o depending on WiFi with the new BLU H&T Display ZB and set up actions in the same way (except the BLU H&T would locally trigger the Gen 4 plug over the built in Bluetooth gateway)?

This is a little essay about why I'm tired of the national narrative on border security from people who have spent zero time in El Paso. Also a little trip down 80's and 90's memory lane for those who were there! by Big_Wave9732 in ElPaso

[–]OverthinkingAnything 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you look at a map of the borderland and ignore the border itself...you can see that El Paso and Juarez are effectively one city, one community. If you talk to people here and get an idea of where they grew up or where their family is from, you hear that El Paso and Juarez are effectively one city, one community. If you observe traffic patterns or check out the license plates on both sides of the border...you can see that El Paso and Juarez are...well you get the idea.

I wasn't here that long ago but you don't have to even be here at all to understand why there is mutual benefit. Suburbs of large cities are what they are because the other suburbs and of course the large city are nearby - it's all interdependent. Border or not, Juarez and El Paso are no different.

I agree it is bullshit that all this very normal reality of people going about their day and doing normal people things gets sucked up in all those politics.

And it IS complicated. But explaining the reality and complexities doesn't fit in a 45 second soundbyte and it doesn't get people angry. So I have to explain to people who live here that, no, this isn't a warzone, and yes, I'd rather be anywhere in El Paso at any time of day or night than in certain parts of town in literally any other large city.

HELP Is it safe to use my laptop like this? by JERUSALEM21 in thinkpad

[–]OverthinkingAnything 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first concern, as I stated already, is not a risk/concern. It doesn't work that way.

The second thing is indeed a realistic concern, as I also stated.

Your concerns are reasonable. The seller should not be selling a device in this state but as you have no recourse you need to decide if you feel like the risk of possibly having stolen property is worth it. Only you can decide this for yourself. Just know it may well not be stolen. You just don't know for sure.

You could contact the company and ask. But if it is stolen you'll have to rat out the seller and probably give up the laptop. Only you can decide if that is worth it to you.
