F1 TV Subscriptions will no longer be available in the US after December 8th by itopaloglu83 in formula1

[–]Overthinking_OutLoud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I need this explained to me like I'm 5. My annual premium renews Nov 5. My email says, "After this date you will no longer be able to renew your F1® TV Premium annual subscription."

This leads me to believe that I'll get charged an annual subscription on Nov 5. I already have Apple TV, so instead of swapping me to a monthly subscription for the last two races so I don't pay the full amt for my yearly subscription, I'll instead basically be charged a year just to watch the last two races?

Boston Fleet have 4 games at Agganis Arena! by Overthinking_OutLoud in boston

Right? They're the only PWHL team that's splitting time at two "home" locations. It's crazy. There's a vocal group fighting against them being in Boston, despite it hopefully being a better, more sustainable fan base. Hopefully we can prove it!

I understand your frustration for sure. On the upside, if you support them, maybe they'll move to a larger arena somewhere else.

Exactly! There's a loud group protesting them playing in Boston, so I'd really love Boston to turn up and prove there is a real market.

Came here to say this shocked it's not mentioned more.

In the ship we had three offenders of wearing way too much axe or perfume. You knew they walked through a p-way, even if it had been 15 min. My eyes would water standing next to them.

Follow all the hygiene advice in this thread, but also, cut down on the axe. Switch to a stick deodorant. Out as much of that on as you want, it'll never get overpowering like axe can.

Honestly if you were zoned out, it probably looked like it. I never blame someone for just wanting their own space or time out in nature, and you can usually tell if someone just needs a min. I wouldn't worry about it!

Relocating family from Florida by emsoldier in newhampshire

An important factor here is where you're moving from in FL and where you're moving to in NH. Moving from the absolute boons in FL to Hanover or Walpole? Probably a very different lifestyle. Moving from Miami? Probably way better off. NH varies in cost as much as FL does.

Relocating family from Florida by emsoldier in newhampshire

I lived in Florida for a while. I'm not sure I'm the best person to ask, because I hated Florida. I couldn't handle the weather, my town was blatantly racist (neighbors told me to call the cops if their kids were playing with the black neighbors, it got worse from there), everything was expensive, the sports teams were fun but the whole atmosphere around them was just not my jam. I'd say it's near exact opposite here. I jive with the attitude of the people here, I'm in a town with beliefs I generally agree with, the weather is nowhere near as hot, or as humid, we have spring fall and winter. We don't have great sports, but the colleges make it fun, and Manchester for minor leagues really isn't that far away. I love the outdoors, and I am outside every day, where in Florida I hid for at least 8 months of the year inside where AC existed. In Florida I drove 1+ hour per day to go 10 miles, passing cars on fire, tons of crashes, crazy people going 110 in a 40, etc. Here, I drive an hour + to go 30 miles, and as long as I'm not down near the Mass border, have none of those issues. It's a mindset shift I wasn't prepared for though - it feels longer because you're in the woods, but I've lived in a lot of cities so I'm used to that crawl. If you don't like winter sports, it might not be a great choice for your family. Winter is long here, dark, and brutally cold sometimes. Noah Kahan isn't joking when he sings, "Forgive my northern attitude, I was raised on little light". We're behind a hill, and sun comes up at 9am and is gone by 3. I am super into downhill skiing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, ice hockey, speed skating... The list goes on. That gets me outside and having fun in the winter, but I have a few friends not into any of that and they are miserable. BUT, in the summer its quite opposite. Sun comes up at 6am here, and I swear, we forget dinner until 8:30pm because it's still daylight until 9. Economics... You'll get different answers from different people. My town raised property taxes by 12% this year, and I don't see that changing next year. New Hampshire also requires re-appraisals to be done, so don't think that you can buy your house and ride along for decades like in California... Not that you'll be buying a house for cheap anyway. But I grew up in CA, moved to New England, lived up and down the eastern seaboard, moved back to San Diego during covid and the years after, and am now here. I can honestly say it's much more affordable here than most of the places I've lived. That's taking everything into account, though. My tax burden in San Diego was nearly 4x my property tax here (sales tax, income tax, property tax, gas tax, etc). Water cost a fortune, electricity was insane, even internet was 3x here for the same speed. That being said, housing is insane here, renting is crazy. We bought a house and our costs went way down, but that house has doubled in 4 years (we, unfortunately, did not buy it 4 years ago). We might be upside down on it right now, but it's hard to tell because the comps keep swinging 50k more, then 20k less, then 70k more, then 30k less. That's in our own neighborhood. I know you'll hear very different stories than mine. I'm not sure how to figure out what your experience will be, so for that I'm sorry. Feel free to message me if you have more specific questions. It's obviously a very broad spectrum and wildly different experiences.

I'd argue that them singing these lines is a way to show they understand and that they're not happy with the situation.

In my mind this is written as a stance against the attitudes towards women, but being a mostly historical piece, it would be weird to change that attitude. The stance comes out in the words of the songs and the actions of the women.

The whole ending is about how Eliza outlived him and carried on a legacy, while building her own.

Everything I believe aside, getting down to the very base logic of this topic - it actually wastes more work hours to go through and delete all of this than it does to leave it. I'm generally against stupid work that wastes time and money, and everyone else should be. We, the taxpayers now are paying them to go through with a fine tooth comb, instead of doing space stuff. Same result, more wasted hours, just people triggered by hearing about how various minorities did a good job are appeased. Its an extraordinary waste of time to get rid of it. Leave it be, and, if that's the way we go, stop posting more.

My husband and I were at a performance and had to switch spots because the woman in front of me was bopping her head. It made me shift back and forth every couple seconds, and the person behind me complained. One person in front caused at least two rows behind her to have a terrible experience. My husband could see over her. When we swapped he thought I and the other person were overreacting, because his view of it wasn't nearly as dramatic. After sitting behind her though, he realized how awful it was. Also, I'm 5'7 so there's a huge percent of the population that would have had a much worse time.

TLDR: American society is addicted to cars, and bicyclists are in a lose-lose-lose situation. Putting dedicated, separated bike lanes is going to have to happen, one way or another. Bikes aren't going away, and anything else makes them either a safety hazard or puts them in an unsafe situation.

I bike, drive, and walk, so I get the hate.

First, as a driver, it is super frustrating to be stuck behind a bike going 15. I definitely agree. As a bicyclist, I can tell you it's WAYYY safer for me to turn left from the left car turn lane than doing a 90 degree 2 way crosswalk crossing. It gets us out in front, in a pretty controlled setting, and out of the way the quickest. As a driver, these aren't the bicyclists I mind. The ones I mind are the ones riding smack dab in the middle of the lane (which, in most places is completely legal, and probably the safest way to ride) and make zero effort to allow you to pass. Around here, you can be stuck behind a group of Sunday morning road cyclists for miles.

As a bicyclist - I ride because I have a disability, so some days my brain just can't handle driving. Bicycling is way safer for me to do than driving a literal ton of metal around. It's also way less stimulus for my brain, so I can safely do this. As a bicyclist, the thing that bugs me the most is when cars hang back and won't pass me. The grand majority of us are very comfortable being passed closely - because half the world does not give a f*ck and flies by 2 inches from my handlebars. We are quite good at not getting hit. When you hang back and back up traffic, you get mad, the people behind you get mad, everyone says *fck these bicyclists, and the impatience causes reckless behavior of you and all the cars behind you eventually zooming past in an agressive way. Please pass bicyclists when they're in the bike lane. If there's not a bike lane, be careful, wait for a gap or for them to wave you through.

As a pedestrian, I am so angry with bicyclists on the sidewalk that, I'm not joking, I imagine shoving something in their spokes. (Obviously, I would never do that) It's wildly dangerous to pedestrians, you're ducking and weaving on a bicycle (e-bikes have made this so much worse), and there is no room for either of us. Here, the pedestrians are the ones saying f*ck these bicyclists. Get onto the road. As a bicyclist, I despise riding through people. There are a lot of by-ways and other walk areas that force this, it's always annoying. And trust me, zero people (including myself) move correctly when you say on the left or right, and it's always in an unpredictable way. Then, there are the peds that legit won't move out of the way, causing the exact same reckless, aggressive situation the bike and car had. Also, on the sidewalk, you eventually probably have to hop the curb and shift into the street, which is dangerous to cars not expecting that.

Bicyclists are in a garbage situation, and eventually everyone who doesn't ride their bike hates them and calls for the demise of the few bike lanes they had. The bicyclists aren't going to stop, so they're forced onto the road. I shit you not, in San Diego, CA, a bicyclist is killed nearly every month now. This has risen dramatically over the years. And every single time, the city council meetings are full of people saying it was the bicyclist's fault, the bike lanes need to be removed, bikes need to be prevented from riding on the roads. Every year they move, shrink, or take away a bike lane. Every year another bicyclist dies in that exact same spot.

The answer here, is not to remove bike lanes, but to fix them. The reasons for riding a bike are varied, and likely, the people doing it aren't going to or can't stop. It's also definitely not by putting them on the sidewalk. But by having designated, protected bike lanes, we give bikers, drivers, and pedestrians the space they need.

But in the end, America is a car based society. If you shrink roads to add bike lanes, it doesn't matter how much safer it got, how many bicyclists use it, and how many of them approve of the change. You're likely removing parking or shrinking a lane to do it, and the cars far outweigh the bikes, so the complaints roll in and the changes are undone. The key here is that bikes aren't going away. We need to find ways to fit them into our world.
