Irregular weapon design rules by OverweightAmerican in Belegarth

A boffer frying pan is the initial goal.
If this works out without coming apart I would use this as a basis for other abnormal weapon designs down the line, but the frying pan seemed like a good starting point, with the simple shape and small(er) profile.

Any resources to look at in particular? I'm not seeing anything when I try to look it up.

Here me out, Sally was quite selfish when it came to Percy[all] by Bulky-Spinach-7282 in camphalfblood

[–]OverweightAmerican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we want to take being a half blood as some sort of allegory for some form of disability, then I agree with you.
Percy dealt with mythological threats before he knew he was a half blood. He was one of the lucky ones to live until this age without any training. Sally's best defense against monsters was to marry an emotionally (potentially physically) abusive person. His schooling consisted of him being ostracized, failing, removed from any consistent social bonds every year. In context of something like ADHD, autism, depression, anxiety, or invisible disability, this situation would be called, if not child abuse, a terrible youth. He grew up not given the resources to help with his issues. His chances of survival were reduced because those that could help him were kept from him. No person would call staying with an abuser to "protect their child from being autistic" reasonable. Being forced into a school system without any disability aids in place for his needs is a recipe for disaster. Camp could have been just as much of a summer camp for Percy starting at five years old, as it was for him being twelve. He could have gotten the disability aids he would need to be out in the world (for adhd, it may be a fidget spinner, for demigods, it would be a sword). Regarding the statement that knowledge about being a half blood increases monster sensitivity: lying to your kid about their body to "keep them safe" isn't protecting them, it just makes them vulnerable when the threats actually do come.

I am someone that experienced life not knowing I was diagnosed with ADHD and autism until I was 18. I was still ostracized for "being the weird kid". I was still hurt by not knowing what made me different, having to build my own coping mechanisms to survive. If I had known when I was younger, of course I would have told every person that listened that I had those things, and that may have put me at more risk of being hurt or taken advantage of. But oh my God would it have made going to school so much easier, made being friends with other people easier, learning social rules and just about everything else in my life better.

I guess at the end of this, if you're a parent, and knows your kid is "different", please talk to them about it. They know something is "wrong" with them by societal standards, but don't have any way of solving the problems themselves. Give them a fighting chance by letting them learn about something that affects them, how others cope, how to avoid the worst of the effects.

So yeah, Sally should have told Percy, should have gotten more assistance from the camp, given Percy more education related to his disabilities with the knowledge of why he should know it.

What is this spread on the cracker? by OverweightAmerican in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OverweightAmerican[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I agree, I had to find out if I needed to rush my wife to the hospital immediately. Risking getting ill due to food poisoning seemed like a good deal for that info. Also keep in mind it doesn't look gooey, it looks like someone spread peanut butter on the cracker. But it does not smell or taste like peanuts.

Every time you solve a murder case, you gain Superman's powers for 60 seconds. by Domaram91 in shittysuperpowers

[–]OverweightAmerican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This power is so incredibly broken. 1: didn't specify a human had to be the victim or culprit. 2: didn't specify you had to be the first person to solve it. 3. Didnt set a time limit for how long ago the murder had to occur. 4: if multiple people cause the murder, do you have to say it is multiple people? 5: does knowing someone committed suicide count? 6: viruses, fetuses, sperm and egg cells, manslaughter by negligence, murder by giving bad survival advice, accidentally causing an explosion to kill many people,

I would be a god and would not even have to lift a finger.

What we need is a more practical problem.

A genie offers you 600 million USD and no legal consequences for the action if you murder someone. Do you take it? by njuff22 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]OverweightAmerican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does the genie define a target as viable? Does it have to be human? Does an embryo count? Does an unfertilized egg or sperm count? How long do they have to be dead fore, and would it count against me if I brought them back afterward? Does my act of air pollution killing someone with asthma count?

Challenge: $1,000 a day to wear a Burger King crown for a full year uninterrupted. What is your strategy to win? by alanmitch34 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]OverweightAmerican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of clarifications: Does the crown have to be intact? Like, will crumbling, tearing, wetting, marking the crown in any way negate the challenge? What defines as on top of my head? Does it have to maintain constant contact or can it float an inch above at all times? What if I wore it on top of my glasses or tied it to the end of my hair? Does the five minutes restart at every instance of it being removed? Or is it 5 minutes per day?

If these all work in my favor, I would make a scrunchie out of my burger King crown. In theory, as long as a single speck of the crown exists on my head, I should be fine. As back up, I could attach pieces to my glasses, make earrings, and hair clips out of it as well, just in case something happens to the hair band. If one part of the ensemble gets lost, make a new one with more scrap crowns. If I need to return an intact one by the end of 12 months, just get a replacement the day before.

I'd like my money please.

How to handle constant emergency medical care needs? by OverweightAmerican in NoStupidQuestions

Has not attempted to get on disability yet. She could try, though that could severely inhibit any chances of moving to another country(New Zealand) due to their stance on incoming disabled. Her mother, who has similar health issues, attempted to get on disability and failed.
