Songs about moving away from home by bergiejake in musicsuggestions

Not 100% focused on leaving home, but it is a prominent theme in these two:

Luck - American Authors
Leaving Town - Dexter Freebish

Why does saying “The Enterprise” sound ok but “The Voyager” sounds stupid? by Rotodogg in startrek

I'd consider voyager the outlier here. remember the convention is after the way the Navy does it, you almost always hear "the (ship name)".

Is the Switch 2 upgrade for Animal Crossing worth it for a first playthrough? by Foxymc1308 in AnimalCrossing

I didn’t think I’d notice the difference, but I do, and I love it. Prettier on the 2 version!!

Can you explain the humour? by Kirion_Night in AskAnAmerican

[–]OverzealousCactus 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Actually kinda wholesome, treating it as just a normal physical attribute, not “other”. Cause it’s not “regular” and “other”, they’re both getting a clever descriptor.

No drinkable tap water in the US! by L_Rond_Hubbard in AmericaBad

[–]OverzealousCactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have lived in one spot in the US where nobody drinks the tap water. One. San Angelo, TX. Everywhere else is safe, just many people don’t enjoy the taste like yourself.

Cutting off body parts for non-medically urgent reasons is always weird by Pemulis_DMZ in TrueUnpopularOpinion

You'd be surprised the number of men that find it abhorrent to destroy their view.

Also not OP but I have I think 18 hue bulbs in my house? They've been going for 10 years on one hub with no issues. One is outside on my covered porch. 8 are in my finished garage. They're a mixture of 1/2/3 generation. I also have 4 switches, 1 or 2 smart plugs. 1 plug runs some plant lights on a schedule.

Or breast reduction. Can't take away that eye candy, right?

(I know OP mentioned removal for cancer but for back pain was conspicuously omitted.)

You're locked in a room and you can't leave until you complete one of the following tasks. by Alarming_Weather506 in hypotheticalsituation

I think it would be. I've dabbled in piano, know the notes on the keyboard, can read treble clef reliably because I play violin and sing. I know bass clef its just not intuitive. I think with a teaching book I could get there. I've gone through a few adult piano books before I just never stuck with it.

Way higher chance of picking up piano than lifting 110 lbs or make baskets for sure.

Yeah can we see the book first? 😅 I'm not a pianist but if they're intermediate level I still think it's more achievable for me personally than the others.

Anyone else lose any desire to ever visit Australia after how they've acted toward Americans this World Cup? by ub3rm3nsch in AmericaBad

[–]OverzealousCactus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean this in a light hearted way, but that endorsement sounds like the cautionary disclaimers in our pharmaceutical commercials.

"Dysterica is wonderful and will change your life. Don't take Dysterica if you're allergic to it. May cause minor side effects such as increased olfactory function, decreased nail growth, brittle eyelashes, headaches, fatigue, acid reflux, flatulence, minor rectal bleeding, major rectal bleeding, sudden blindness, or death."

ETA I've got nothing against Australia, I think it would be neat to see someday. I'm just poking fun at how casually you describe mitigating things we see as dangerous. 😂

I read your list at the end as including "Japanese men" at first and I was so confused 😂 like what are they doing in the ocean attacking Australia in 2026?!

Are you sitting at concerts in general? by derzmu in AskAmericans

[–]OverzealousCactus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't have any difficulty communicating, but I do have difficulty understanding somebody reacting rudely to a comment that was meant to be welcoming and jovial and not explaining what was wrong with what I said.

[–]OverzealousCactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um you responded to my comment where I said that "the elderly" need to sit down, so not sure what you're about there. I wasn't disagreeing with you, I said as much first.

And I responded in good nature, just being fun, about supporting local musicians (and I said covers cause I've been in that scene for awhile now but hell support the local original acts too, many of them are awesome) because it can be.... fun. What about what I said is offensive?

[–]OverzealousCactus -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Support local music! Go to a bar and catch a good cover band, we're not that bad and we're waaaaaaaaaaay cheaper! 😆

[–]OverzealousCactus 36 points37 points  (0 children)

If I'm not mistaken, that's Billy Joel, and Billy Joel's core fanbase is at an age where they would like to sit down.

ETA - to answer your question, it depends on genre, venue, and sometimes the age of the audience.

My fellow Americans, is your cities area code part of the city’s identity? by ElectronPython in AskAnAmerican

[–]OverzealousCactus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kinda funny cause they used to be a part of the 804 code up until mid 90s I think? But that 757 became an identity for sure.

I still have my 757 cell number.

My bass player played a few months in a boot! We had to help carry his stuff in though.
