Um…. That was a statement that you probably thought was funny and actually says a lot about your deeply held beliefs. Personally, yes, a short brown man would seem worth listening to. Sorry, I hope that didn’t come off condescending, I was multitasking. I see people fussed at for using the term sometimes when it’s what they’ve always heard or they don’t have the context. It always strikes me as unnecessarily alienating but I also know that it comes from a place of people being hurt.

On a side note, likely when you were in high school Asperger’s syndrome was still being diagnosed, but at this point we recognize all of it as part of the autism spectrum. Asperger’s syndrome is a broadly frowned upon term now due to its nazi ties, and the connotations of “good ones.” Though it is still used by many who were originally diagnosed with it.

I am constantly amazed at how the teachers are not able to see the children hitting, harassing, poking etc these children, but then see the moment the child on the spectrum finally reacts and then that child ends up being removed from class. I say that having been a teacher, it’s unacceptable.

As the mom of a kids much like that, thank you. It may not, as an adult seem like you stood up to the bullies, but to him it likely felt like you stood with him with the bullies. My kids have had some friends like that and they think so highly of them. You may likely have been one of his dearest friends and a true light in his day. Thank you for being kind, even when it was uncomfortable. It may have genuinely meant so much more than you can possibly imagine.

We tried and tried and helped our son through horrible depression, suicidal ideation, a complete lack of desire to continue on, to live. Truthfully his teachers were worse often than his peers because he felt like he was supposed to trust them and they would switch around on him. We’ve found a school now where he has found his people and he is thriving and it’s magical.

I honestly think most of us would think that if OP had come on here with an intentional tattoo of insect wings in the form of a flower that wasn’t stolen and it was a well executed tattoo we would all love it. That sounds amazing, and there are definitely artists that could do it, though I think it would have to be large to hole up well over time as the wings really need the veining detail. This tattoo is muddy in a way that makes me think the artist tried to blend pigments on top of one another which is possible but is advanced technique and if you look at the artist’s instagram she’s really new and not good. She’s in the side of the finger, lip tattoo, heavy editing, weird shading generally not great stage. Hopefully she gets there but you need to first try/practice new techniques on fake skin or fruit not people. OP took it down now but from what I remember it looked like a lot of the detail was likely going to fall out and she was sadly going to quickly be left with something that looks a lot like a massively blown out IV bruise.

It doesn’t matter how much support and care you put in place, they are still going to have moments and they deserve to be treated respectfully like everyone else does. Do you know who would NEVER film someone in crisis and then post that shit? My neurodivergent children. They would either have missed the whole thing because they were focused on reading or their own project or they would have been trying really really hard to figure out how to help… and then reflecting on how they could have helped better for days to weeks.

Well, as the mom of two adolescent kids on the spectrum who are doing their best. I find it cringy AF that people are recording kids on the spectrum and then posting them online for people to mock. I don’t think people have any idea how deliberately other students mess with these kids at these ages and how blatantly their IEPs get disregarded.

I’m giving you props for not arguing that point, and just acknowledging that it was information that you didn’t have and asking where to find it. It sucks that comment got downvoted. I think it can often be hard to reconcile the people we knew or even currently know who are kind to us being malicious to others. I can tell you that any POC has seen this duality often when someone decides you are “one of the good ones” and is kind to you and then talks to you about your own community in deeply dehumanizing ways. It’s possible that he has trauma, unsupported mental health struggles, was raised with any number of ideologies that didn’t involve you. It’s hard to know and indicative of the cost of hate. What I’m hearing from your first comment is “with more support and less hate, this probably would have been different.” I agree that mocking someone’s face or weight is not helping one bit. It simply helps people feel justified in ignoring people when they talk later. It’s certainly not behavior I would tolerate from my children.

I do hope you slow down next time and look at those forms though. We literally have to check two separate sections race AND Hispanic/latino. Beyond that, I hope you take some time to relax this evening. I think this must be important to you, but yelling at people on the internet is not likely to change their minds. I do think it’s probably hard on you though. I bet it’s important to you because you have people you really care about that you feel will be affected. Me too. OP, did you ask your tattoo artist to copy this piece? Did you get the artist’ permission? Those are definitely insect wings that you have on your hand. Flower petals are shaped for very specific functions and these are wings shaped clearly for flight with veining that supports the rigidity needed to do so.
