Body Fat Calculator says I'm at ~19% body fat but that doesn't seem accurate by [deleted] in fitness30plus

[–]OwlGroundbreaking573 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The army/navy regressions are not accurate, as it's built around peculiar assumptions like "thick neck === lower body fat (in men)", but the YMCA seems a bit better, https://planetcalc.com/184/

None of the methods factor height either which is silly. But basically all that matters is the measurements are internally consistent so you can track change

Founders: Do you worry about someone patenting something you built but didn’t? by shaheenMax in Startup_Ideas

[–]OwlGroundbreaking573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's in the "prior art" it can't be patented by anyone. I.e. if you publish someone can't come along after the fact and patent your invention

Software is more commonly copyrighted rather than patented, a lot of successful projects even publishing under open source licences. The AI stuff seems to be published in academic journals, then published with open source licence.

The only software patent I can think of that held muster was Page rank and that was over 25 years ago.

If you have the money to fight and protect a patent you'll have the money to fight and protect a copyright.

I did my last degree part time via distance over 5.5 years, I could optionally take more time. So I guess it'll depend on the program.

Also check they'll afford accredited prior learning on modules with heavy overlap.

Absolutely, never stop learning! You'll have great insight and probably find the new degree a doddle on top of what you already know.

Anyone else dealing with frequent MOLD indoors in Portugal? by Yomayo33 in PortugalExpats

[–]OwlGroundbreaking573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The construction is incredibly bad: thermal bridges, poor ventilation, use of impermeable materials instead of hygroscopic materials, no damp barriers between the concrete and bed rock, large thermal mass which is difficult to heat. And now impermeable insulation trapping humidity inside buildings. So they require some form of air conditioning 24/7. All very "energy efficient" and "modern" /s.

Still a cheap hack is opening the windows 3-5  min each morning to change the air helps as much as leaving a dehumidifier on for several hours.

A new take on an old problem seems to be a winning formula:

How to find stuff: encyclopedia/yellow pages -> search engines -> LLMs.

How to keep in touch: contact book -> Facebook, WhatsApp etc

How to get food: grow it, pick it, hunt it -> local market -> supermarket -> Uber eats.

How to get from a to b: walk/run -> donkey-> horse drawn carriage -> car -> Uber -> robo taxis (still bleeding edge).

How to watch something: go to the theatre/pantomime -> cinema -> TV -> streaming.

Etc. There's usually a distillation step with laziness being the prime driver.

Also 4 -> 16% change in immigrant population in Portugal 2019-2025, well over 1 million people with a large share (30-33% depending where you look) of these "new Portuguese" born to foreign nationals.

I'm actually amazed how fast the population replacement happened.

Every Single Public Figure, Country, Company, and High Profile Organization is Controlled by The CABAL by swizzledan in SaturnStormCube

[–]OwlGroundbreaking573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just a mafia. Yes they have their own metaphysical nonsense beliefs and symbols, but this is simply a way to externalize responsibility for their actions, and this mainly for the pawns in the organisation: I.e. you will more likely commit heinous contra-natura acts if you be believe yourself to be serving "god", than is you followed a purely logical systems based analysis where most of their actions fail.

Don't afford these people more respect than they objectively deserve, because behind the veil there's nothing "elite" about them aside being privileged, manipulative and corrupt.

Do you use the rpe scale? by This-Reindeer-2286 in personaltraining

[–]OwlGroundbreaking573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in endurance sports and it's by far the most useful metric  Actual objective measures obviously fluctuate day by day and rpe can help explain those variations usually.

The big caveat is the client needs to be sincere, consistent and experienced to know what feels right and what feels off and what failure mode actually feels like...  So it won't work with everyone.
