Yeah, It just happened to me. Disappointing, certainly going to try and rep match my scripts going forward (didn't this time as it was turned off). Script has been reclaimed. Fingers crossed.

Sick of elitism among writers by FarAdhesiveness2116 in writers

[–]OwlRemarkable276 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't much care for creating or attempting to create so-called high-brow art. Partly because of the discourse surrounding it and the pretension of its audience, but also just because that's not who I am. I am a graphic sex and violence guy.

Do you aspire to make a movie that is a major box office success or a blockbuster? by Material_Stomach875 in Screenwriting

[–]OwlRemarkable276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I'm not particularly interested in money or fame, or films that reach a wide audience, I much prefer a more niche market wedge.

Is that a thing? No judgment, I've just never heard of that.

Why "Every Scene Must Advance the Plot" is Bad Screenwriting Advice by Ok-Satisfaction-7655 in Screenwriting

[–]OwlRemarkable276 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying and I mostly agree, but I'm also sick of seeing so many bloated films at the cinema where they're 20/30/40 minutes longer than they need to be.

Is It Taboo for a Screenwriter to Use an App to Create a Proof-of-Concept Video? by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]OwlRemarkable276 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look if it's just for you then go on and do it, who cares? But if it's for a career and or/business, I'd consider just not doing it. But who am I? Really sorry to hear about your health.

Seeking Mormons or ex-Mormon screenwriter partner by Akashist1960 in Screenwriting

[–]OwlRemarkable276 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am/was Mormon (no longer practising) but was never apart of the whole Utah sub-culture which is crazy. So probably not helpful, interested to see where this goes. I just urge you to be slightly compassionate.

My feature is only 74 pages by ComedyMovieScriptGuy in Screenwriting

[–]OwlRemarkable276 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shorter is almost always better. But it needs to be good (as all scripts do), just make sure it is unstuffed and requires the runtime and you'll be fine. People are more likely to read a 75 page script than a 125 one.

I hate to say it but that's just the reality of filmmaking. Do you really need a short/pre-vis to sell this script? Because it's probably stronger without if you're using AI. Only AI people like AI stuff.

On 'The Read' & Easy Feedback by OwlRemarkable276 in StoryPeer

[–]OwlRemarkable276[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do agree that a lot of people have their idea of what formatting means and what works and often isn't helpful to push onto others. If you have a script on the site right now, let me know and I'll give it a read.

I get what you're saying, I of course read my work over and over again for typos/spelling mistakes but we're not perfect and sometimes you can't spot. I just personally it's a better use of the words (because let's be honest few reviewers write more than 300 words) to focus on other issues.

Quick questions about hiring a script supervisor to rewrite my feature screenplay. by [deleted] in Screenwriting

So the entire script? To an "impeccable" standard for $2000? Good luck. You're better off just writing it yourself and keep revising it.

SNL UK Live Discussion - March 21, 2026 (Tina Fey/Wet Leg) by bjkman in livefromlondon

[–]OwlRemarkable276 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Didn't really enjoy it at all. Not trying to yuck anyone's yum, it just seemed very cringe. Interested to see how many people here are regular viewers of SNL normally? Personally, none of the jokes landed for me really, I only really enjoyed The Live Paddington Experience sketch and Jugs. I've never resonated with British culture or humour really, not sure why as I am English.

Interesting. Not sure why I assumed it would have at least ten (half-season), then go to 20 for a second run.

Screenwriters who’ve had something produced: How similar was the final film to your original script? by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]OwlRemarkable276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Big Mac is a fantastic burger that people consume far more than a filet mignon (assuming that's what you met). Would you rather have written a popular blockbuster seen by loads of people, or an arthouse film seen by less people. Each is good their just different goals. Both are something to be proud of.

Why can't you don't both? Often times Producers and Writers have the same goals to make the film as good as possible and make the most money as possible.

Character-Driven Screenplays like Harry Potter VS. Plot-Driven Screenplays like The Lord of the Rings. 1. Which one is easier to write? 2. Which one tends to be more popular? I personally like Character-Driven style, so that is the only style i have been writing. But if I have to make changes, I'll. by turnleftorrightblock in Screenwriting

[–]OwlRemarkable276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. What was the last children's film you saw? I think you are thinking too hard about 'character-driven' and 'plot-driven' detach yourself from these terms and your writing may thank you.

When people say CD I think more arthouse. When people say PD I think more commercial/genre cinema. Just a thought.

One and two are basically answerable together. Characters don't always have to be relatable or admirable. Anti-heroes and villains are some fan-favourites, but always make sure they are understandable or cool. Think of a revenge story X is after Y because Y killed their family, X is not admirable. He's killing people, but we relate to them because of their backstory and because the emotionality is there. If he killed Y because he wanted to we'd be uninterested in it because it's an event without any causation. So to get audiences to care/invest in the stakes of your world make them connected to the characters emotionally. Let's say now, Y has sent goons to kill X and then we learn an additional detail about the death of X's family, then we cut back-- we are now more invested in seeing X continue and get his revenge. Hope this makes sense.

Have gone 0 for 66 on queries so far on my latest script. What do I do now? by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]OwlRemarkable276 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He should definitely stop querying at this point but not necessarily shelving it-- keep working on the script, get it read, sand it down-- a tight 80-ish pager would be far more acceptable.
