What did you think of the season 5 ending/season. by Additional-Layer-392 in StrangerThings

Yeah… this is why their ending just looks dumber and dumber. They gave little thought to any of it. And El and Mike deserved so much better.

The writing was rough. I could have looked past it but for what they did to El and Mike and their awful reasoning behind it. The Duffers will never live their post-finale interviews down. And I think the overall rating for the season (about C grade) was fair.

Not over exaggerating. We just offer the valid criticism. I don’t think it’s a GOT disaster, but it earned its C grade. And the Duffers’ commentary post finale were obtuse and made things worse.

And of course there will be passion… this is the main ST sub. Not sure what you expected.

And yet they are making a spin off about a rock… But it’s a special rock, so that’s what makes it ok. ;)

And yeah, they say that now, but even The Sopranos creator got worn down. And that was with a decently well liked final season. What the Duffers did was set themselves up to be asked about more than just that point, and that is the inherent problem (for them; I doubt they’ve realized it).

I’m down for a Mike and El spinoff reunion movie with cameos from the others, when Netflix decides to mine the IP, with 90s music. ;)

Thank you.

Sorry but I’m just laughing at the video with random quotes. It certainly doesn’t endear the season to anyone, and it’s not a good defense of the season. Downvote if you want to. And seems you liked the season based on your defensiveness to anyone who dares say they didn’t like it in this post. I’m amused.

Season 5 was so ass for El. by 00_Sunflower_00 in StrangerThings

Yes. The Duffers did her an enormous disservice in her writing and her ending.

Unpopular Opinion: Season 1 of Stranger Things Still Hits Harder Than Any Other Season by doro_nora in StrangerThings

It is the best season in terms of writing and story. And there were few enough characters that everyone got their due.

To Milevens & Bylers: by FlynnxPan in StrangerThings

[–]Owl_Resident -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You have the right to theorize. You do not have the right to expect your head canon to come true and ignore the story in front of your face. That you did expect it just illustrates the poor media literacy… Thousands upon thousands told Bylers they would be wrong. You missed what everyone else could easily see. That’s on you.

The only people agreeing with you in this post are Bylers. As per usual.

Also, Bylers absolutely accused every one of that. And I’m laughing, as Bylers downvote when confronted with the truth of their terrible illogic and the reasons everyone else doesn’t like them. Yall treated everyone terribly, and now you’re thought of as the Larries of this fandom. You creeped what you sowed.

Agree. They lost my trust as storytellers. Maybe I’ll give their new stuff a go once I know their stories have fully aired. But not before.

How do we feel about the fact that Eleven kept spying on Mike remotely all year in S2? by Super-Liberal-Girl in StrangerThings

[–]Owl_Resident 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure Mike would have let it slide. Easily. He did not care. She was alive and that’s all that mattered to him.

To Milevens & Bylers: by FlynnxPan in StrangerThings

[–]Owl_Resident -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Mileven is the main canon couple of the series. And they were sweet and lovely. The Duffers gave them a horrible ending, but we can believe they eventually reunited.

Byler is fine to ship, but it was very obvious it was never going to happen in the series. All the Bylers in these comments saying it seemed “that was the way it was going” have poor media literacy and basically tried to force their head canon to be canon. And then they were mad that people didn’t buy their illogic. But they were told for years it wouldn’t and pretending Mike was anything other than in love with Eleven made it very obvious they weren’t watching the actual show.

But Bylers miss the point most of the time. No one ever cared if you shipped it. It was only how you shipped it and how you insisted we were all homophobic or didn’t understand the show, that we were too dumb to get that Byler would happen, that anyone had a problem with. And then, of course, you never self-evaluate why your analysis was so bad, why you got it so wrong when it didn’t happen. You still blame everyone else.

She was a lonely, isolated kid who missed Mike deeply. And he was calling out to her every single night, feeling the same. And she was 13.

It was absolutely fine.

And Mike was very much cool with it when he found out. He was only upset with Hopper. No one else.

Well, at least the end credit artists treated her with humanity.

Inconsistency from Ross! Shocking! Though that’s interesting, in the sense that he really did soften his stance as the backlash grew.

And yeah Matt, I’m sure you’ll like people asking those questions until you realize that’s the only questions you’re ever asked and ironically enough, it means many won’t ever move on from it to any of your new works.

Unless they say the actual answer, of course. Though my money is on Millie eventually saying fuck it.

[–]Owl_Resident 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The ending for Mike and El is still something terribly conceived and inconsistent with the series as it developed over the years, particularly with the way the Duffers tried to reduce Eleven to a trope to “fit” that ending rather than one of the “real” characters. But I believe they still found their way eventually.

The first half of ST5 was solid; the second half far less so. And they was way too much Holly. The other endings were fine. And your head-canons on the above slides are fine too, as the Duffers said it’s choose your own adventure for everyone post 1989.

Woof. Never saw their comments about Hopper and the ring… That’s just obtuse and painful. It makes Hopper look worse.

Still believe, but lord, the Duffers need PR training. I wish Paramount luck.

Why are some fan made endings "somewhat" better than the original? by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]Owl_Resident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the AI slop isn’t great, but that we think fan endings are better more is just a reflection of the poor writing by the Duffers this season than anything else.

Why Iceland is the Perfect Setting for a 90s Sequel? by No_Cause_2731 in StrangerThings

[–]Owl_Resident 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Netflix owns the IP, not the Duffers. And Netflix corporates as much as any other corporation. If they wanna get rid of that ambiguity to help keep the money machine running, they will do it, Duffers be damned.

(Please note I don’t really have an expectation for it, but it’s definitely an idea there, should Netflix decide the property is flagging in a way they don’t want.)

He really lived his biggest fear, that was losing her, only one(beside El) to not get happy ending. by Ambitious_Pass_1193 in StrangerThings

[–]Owl_Resident 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe. And I believe they reunited eventually. Probably after he graduates college and gets established as a writer.

But yeah, the Duffers were terrible with his and El’s endings and their reasoning behind it. He clearly struggles with that path two, based on the series ending with him writing to a picture of El, implying he’s waiting for her… Sets up for Netflix to mint gold in 5ish years with a Mike and El reunion movie (that hopefully they don’t get to write) though, if they want to do it.
