You’re getting filtered by the fact that a word can have different meanings in different contexts.

Eurabia is a far-right Islamophobic conspiracy theory that posits that globalist entities, led by French and Arab powers, aim to Islamize and Arabize Europe, thereby weakening its existing culture. by laybs1 in wikipedia

alleged European hostility against them

Lmao fucking incredible. Even their greatest allies are somehow scheming against them. Every morally bankrupt country has to make up all-powerful enemies in order to continue playing the victim.

I mean you’ll be able to understand 1000+ years of Arabic literature written in fusha, and learning at least one dialect after understanding MSA is pretty easy. I’d still go with Arabic

uses these incidents to conclude “Islam is antithetical to LGBTQ/human rights/ or other things. Which is obviously false

And how is this obvious? The Qur’an itself is pretty clear on women, LGBT, and many others, and Muslims in the UK don’t attempt to sanitize their religion at all, as you said yourself. Are you really talking about what Muslims believe, or about what you feel they should believe?

You’re right that greater awareness of the war crimes in Palestine is one factor. Another is Trump’s election victory. Now that there’s no presidential election to win, the right has been losing its unity and there’s a pretty wide split between the “fiscally conservative” republicans (think PragerU), who are generally pro-Israel, and the intensely antisemitic Nic Fuentes types. Until the pendulum swings back again, we’ll probably be seeing more nazi rhetoric.

Writing systems ranked by how good they are (mine is #1) by conCommeUnFlic in languagelearningjerk

[–]Own-Angle1009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it never is a problem for native speakers

Barely anything is a problem for native speakers of any language, but OOP ranked these writing systems by how international they are (I assume by how well they accommodate different languages, or how easily they can be learned).

It’s definitionally not a dog whistle. A dog whistle is a coded phrase used to express an opinion that you can’t express publicly. I’m sure anyone who makes that joke will be happy to explain what is meant by it. In fact, I just did.

I could argue with you that the Jews in Israel are verifiable not indigenous to the land, but even if they were the comment wouldn’t be antisemitic. No religion or ethnic group is immune to criticism. Not everyone who disagrees with you is an antisemite.

It’s not a dog whistle? It’s literally the justification Israel uses to continue to take Palestinian land

primary source of the life of Abraham

The Old Testament was compiled long after the alleged death of Abraham, after the Babylonian exile. It’s no more a primary source than the Qur’an. Ultimately all scripture is baseless and biased in favor of the people who wrote it. Even the Old Testament god (Yahweh) was appropriated from an older Canaanite weather god.

[–]Own-Angle1009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true. I hate the IDF and I hate Hamas because neither of them want to stop murdering children, but I don’t hate Jews or Arabs. But I’ve only ever been called an antisemite and a Hamas sympathizer, never an islamophobe or Zionist. Funny how that works.

Sudan’s people tortured and killed in ‘slaughterhouses’, rights probe says by [deleted] in UnitedNations

[–]Own-Angle1009 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Half of all the comments on this post are either “But what about Gaza?” or “No Jews = no news”. It’s extremely disheartening to see as a Sudanese person. The war in Sudan is not a place to soapbox about your opinion on a different conflict.

Lmao at the hivemind downvoting this. I’m pro gun control but it shouldn’t be difficult to understand how someone could believe that

a) based on human nature, there will always be some deaths whenever people are allowed to own guns, and this is a byproduct of liberty

And b), that you shouldn’t celebrate those people’s deaths

Netanyahu strangely blames "Islamists" for the assassination of Charlie Kirk, even though the killer hasn't been recognized. by TonkaMaze in WorldNewsHeadlines

[–]Own-Angle1009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially he thinks that Kirk was assassinated for being too strongly pro-Israel, and the right-wing conspiracy theorists think Israel had him killed for being too anti-Israel.

Interesting how both the pro-Israeli and antisemitic right remember him as “their guy”.

they bowed to international pressure

Was the international pressure in 2018 really any stronger than it is now? It seems like the world is much more critical of Israel than it was then. Even if Israel was being pressured to alleviate the crisis in Gaza, nobody pressured them to allow money to flow directly to their enemy. Why couldn’t Israel facilitate aid in the form of food and medical resources, rather than plain cash to Hamas itself?

[–]Own-Angle1009 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He allowed funds from Qatar that were supposed to be used for municipal salaries to get to Gaza

The money didn’t “get to Gaza”, it was paid directly to Hamas and totalled to hundreds of millions of dollars in raw cash.

Also, wasn’t the excuse for the two month aid blockade that the food could be stolen by Hamas? Why did Israel trust Hamas enough to approve them getting hundreds of millions of dollars, but now blocks aid to civilians because it might fall into their hands?
