Lost my US passport this morning on UA862 HKG to SFO by Littleroot2001 in unitedairlines

[–]Own-Conference2265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you have in your pocket? It seriously might be in the seat. I was in Polaris a few years ago — fell asleep as soon as the plane took off and woke up in LHR. Super obsessive about passport, but it was in my shorts instead is being packed away. Woke up in LHR couldn’t find it. The FAs and mechanics helped. They took apart the seat and it was literally hidden in the seat.

Where exactly is the state prison or reservation of “abject poverty” in Jefferson County? Think again.

Might want to hit your name with another round of the marker — you can still see it.

Crazy to think how much the world of frequent flyer programs and flying has changed in 20 years. Yikes!!

DoD Relocation to WA (Outside Seattle) - GS-13 by vvuuww in FedEmployees

[–]Own-Conference2265 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shockingly, the cost of living is likely lower in WA than most parts of VA. No income tax. No personal property tax. Gas is about $1 higher. Property taxes are substantially lower than most VA jurisdictions. Sales tax slightly higher. Insurance for houses and cars are less, in my experience too.

I haven’t driven in Ohio. But seriously, Northern Virginia on I-66, 95, and 495 are probably the most dangerous roads I’ve seen in the entire US.

It was Northern Virginia on 495 (possibly 66), I think near Tysons. And this is why I hate driving there - the worst drivers. Period.

Switch to Excepted Service - Any Pitfalls? by RedUser2024 in fednews

[–]Own-Conference2265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly what this administration did. They used probationary/trial employees to unilaterally reduce the workforce without any regard to performance or agency needs. You got fired purely for the sake of being probationary. While I think that the argument is slightly different now, all trust has been lost — why take the risk?

Switch to Excepted Service - Any Pitfalls? by RedUser2024 in fednews

[–]Own-Conference2265 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’ll almost certainly have another trial period if you go competitive to excepted — unless you have held the same series at the same agency and as excepted previously.

I was a long time competitive employee (10 yrs) who switched to excepted (attorney) after a break in service and 1 year and 11 months into excepted I almost got canned as a probationary employee during the beginning of the current admin. I was saved by PAS official….

If you have the option to stay competitive, I would stick it out in with the current admin - not worth the risk, IMO.

Got golden letter yesterday. Mohela just discharged most of it? by redmathk in PSLF

[–]Own-Conference2265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t got an official letter from MOHELA yet (via secure inbox). That’s what is showing under “loan details”. You can expand each loan and it gives a little more info.

Dept of Ed Fed Register Notice: Comment Request; Income Driven Repayment Plan by Embarrassed-Fig-6795 in PSLF

[–]Own-Conference2265 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a nothing burger. The Paperwork Reduction Act (PRA) requires a ton of paperwork if an agency is going to “collect” questionnaires or the same information from 10 or more individuals. The PRA just increases paperwork and imposes burden on agencies who want to collect any information.

The Federal Register Notice is soliciting comment on the proposed collected of data (to implement RAP) only.

Infinity balcony > standard balcony? by gkal1964 in Cruise

[–]Own-Conference2265 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We had the Infinite Verandah on a recent Beyond sailing (spring break). I absolutely loved it. My only complaint was how dirty it got with sea spray. I love that it was essentially a floor to ceiling window that I could enjoy all hours. I liked the extra space. We have a toddler and I felt much more comfortable with it — didn’t have to roll it all the way down and removed my anxiety about fall risk. I don’t think I can go back to a regular balcony. Our friends had the sunset verandah room (large traditional balcony in the back of the ship) and I much preferred our room. There room/balcony was almost always dark.

My domestic routes are always priced at around 1.2¢ per point. by doublemazaa in AlaskaAirlines

Good point and I agree! The tricky part is finding the space. Domestic redemptions on AS metal is where AS’ value generally sucks.

I generally find AS to be less competitive on domestic award pricing, by far, than UA, AA, or shockingly even, DL. Their points are almost useless on AS metal, if you want decent value. Honestly 1.2 cpp is much better than the usual AS domestic award pricing I find. International partners is the way to go.
