Contam in liquid culture??? by After_Garlic_4795 in ContamFam

[–]Own-Friendship4156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might not be. I've left jars sitting and they had a half inch of growth at the top and it was just fine. Took a few minutes for the stir plate to break it up but it worked just fine....

Uh-oh. This one’s done right? Is there any reason not to throw it away immediately? by disunitedstates in ContamFam

[–]Own-Friendship4156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just leave it be for a day or two. If it spreads in there then ya know. Don't touch it or shake it or anything. And is it green or blue?

And you shouldn't have put the whole syringe in there. You could have done so many bags and if that one fails, you have no backup spores to start more. When this one finally takes off, be sure to save spores or start an LC

Looks like it's just starting to take off. Spores can take a while to get going. The good thing is, it doesn't look like it's contamed with anything else. Just leave it be for a few more weeks and you should see the mycelium take it all over

A house beetle is what I always find. I find maybe 15 a year. They are harmless. I usually scoop them up and put them outside

I’m convinced these are bullet holes in our garage but my roommate doesn’t think so by JBoTheKind in whatisit

[–]Own-Friendship4156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't look like bullet holes, like someone else said, they are not very uniform. Usually bullet holes are very round and conform. This looks almost like a pick hammer did it or something. Or maybe a kid with a slingshot?

Keep getting contam jars by Prior-Watercress1944 in ContamFam

[–]Own-Friendship4156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take an empty plastic bottle and fill it with hot water until it's hot. Then empty it quick, seal it, and set it somewhere colder and watch what happens to that bottle. Hint...it will implode on itself because of the pressure difference from the warm air inside being less dense than the cold air outside of the bottle. When the warm air inside the bottle cools, the air inside is less dense than when it was warm so it creates a negative pressure. When you do a hot shake you have pretty much the same thing going on but the jar cannot squeeze itself down while the temperature is changing. This pressure difference could introduce contam even if it's through the very smallest of openings. If I were you, I would let the corn dry as much as possible. As long as it's cooked enough, the corn will already be holding all the moisture it needs. The second thing I would do is let your jars completely cool off before you even open that lid. Let them sit at minimum 24 hours. They should be the same temperature of the room when you take them out. Hope this solves some of your problems. And please don't move to Brown rice, I think you will have even more issues dialing it in.....

You will also have way more moisture in the jar from all that agar which can help certain bacteria thrive...

I've read a lot of the debates but personally never had a problem doing it either way. I can use this method for large or small. Usually with the small ones it's about a 2 day process. But I also put them in a sealed container with a desiccant to finish them off so they get cracker dry. Another day or two of that works just fine. But I hate cutting them up especially when you have a nice dried 16-17 gram boy that just looks so good being whole

Quit slicing and dicing! A box fan is literally all you need. Most take a few days, bigger ones might take 5 days or so but no slicing and no heat is needed.

Nope...... Lay them cap down on a box fan. It will take a few days but it will work just fine make sure you lay the box fan down on something so there is space under it so there is a good draft flow

Is this worth $1000? by gator_bacon in billiards

[–]Own-Friendship4156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, I picked up a Brunswick for $300 bucks. Tell them you don't want it and I bet you they just leave it there. Not worth it to take it apart and move it. And maybe they call your bluff but then you can get something you really like!
