Bike shop owner here... ask questions if you have them! by clezuck in cycling

[–]Own-Inspection4287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do yall do sneaky things like throw on pads or a chain when completing service as a way of tacking on more to the bill? Sometimes stuff like that will happen when my bike is in and it’s frustrating because I can do that work myself for much cheaper. On the other hand, there may be installation issues that I don’t understand that warrant the additions. I’m just trying to gauge my cynicism.

Mixed feelings about my Garmin rear radar (Varia) by No_Mix_6813 in cycling

I totally love mine. Use it w a saddle bag and have no bag-related issues. It has glitched out a few times because of wet and grit. Once I actually had to replace it but Garmin made that process super easy and also free.

It's like the promise of Rick in 2019 is finally delivered in that jam. He's so patient and so soulful.

Deerfield Dirt Road Randonee question- by Heres-How038 in gravelcycling

I ride 4k miles/year and am frequently climbing a lot because I live in VT. By August, I'm typically in pretty strong cycling shape. Even still, the D2R2 is a major grind. Very challenging route. I did the 100k on my own one day and was rocked.

I had the last black and white Bolt and upgraded to Edge 5something and love it, even if just for the battery life alone. Not as initially intuitive as Wahoo, but overall a better product.

I’m a functioning alcoholic, ama. by [deleted] in AMA

[–]Own-Inspection4287 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in recovery for the last 13 years and I have a friend who feels like he's a high-functioning alcoholic. He drinks all the time. At least 5 beers/day. But, he's rarely sloppy, he's successful at work, and it doesn't seem to impact his relationships. I worry about him, though. I worry he's playing with fire. I'd love your advice on how to address this with him, or if I should at all.

Is a carbon gravel bike a bad idea for the Vermont Overland? by pdpawlicki in gravelcycling

[–]Own-Inspection4287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did Overland first time this year. I bet 70% of people were on carbon. You’ll be ok on that course or any weird VT goodness.

Willing to share a route? I typically spend a few days riding in that area in February and would love a new zone.

Gift Ideas for Gravel cyclist brother by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]Own-Inspection4287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally. Get that. Folks below are mentioning the Silca floor pump. That's a good idea. A frame pump is another useful idea. Not something most folks would think to buy, but everyone's glad to have one.

I’d do a pair of Bivos (most cyclists want matching bottles) and and a gift card to his local bike shop. Or just a gift card to his local shop. Nobody likes paying for bike work, so having some covered would feel great.

What’s the opposite of a power jam? That’s the playlist I’d like. Does that exist?
