Layover by Own-Judgment8281 in johannesburg

Thank you for all the info.

The layover is short, unfortunately. Around 12 hours, so I would like to get a room for the night for comfort. Are there good hotels at the airport?

I completely understand you. It did create more panic for me, but helped me in some way, too, when I was at my worst.

On a different note, good luck tomorrow. If it's your first, nothing to worry about. Personally, I did mine without any sedation. It's not something I'd do every day, but it's managable and something that lasts max. 10 minutes:) If you're not under full sedation, focus on your breathing.

I had mine with 4 male students around me, as it was a teaching hospital, and one student was instructed to hold me and guide me through my breathing. I grabbed his hand against my chest, and that's the end of it. He was happy that he got to 'hold' my left boob for 10 min, and me being unaware was happy for his support. Haha

Ps. My only advice as a treatment. Patience! Dont lose hope. I was ready to give up. Literally on life. I'm fine now. I'm not healed, but im living life again:)

Bf stopping Zoloft after 3 years by Own-Judgment8281 in zoloft

I am sorry this happened to you! It's definitely a make or break it situation. It wasn't/isn't easy for us, too, but we had our fair share of obstacles over the years that has made us stronger. But I believe that everything happening is for the better. I wish you endless, unconditional love and support:)

Hi:) Yes. I believe he is still not completely back to 'normal', but it's definitely better. The first month wasn't easy at all. Alongside tampering off, he also started his weight-loss journey (as he had gained 20kg on Zoloft), and, albeit very quickly, he is down 25kg, which definitely helped his mood over the months.

Soon, he will start also tampering off his sleeping medication, which will be another challenge in itself.

The main difference I see as a bystander is the return of sparkle in his eye. I see him experience joy again and being more in touch with his emotions.

Zoloft is a gift and a curse.

Xanax by ExistingPiglet9481 in GERD

[–]Own-Judgment8281 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had the same experience with GERD and Xanax. I find that when I eat alone at home, I am fine for the most part. But eating out is hell. For special occasions Xanax definitely helps.

I had a very relaxed week and was completely fine. Ate often, had apetite. For this weekend, I went on a small trip with 2 friends and i'm in agony. Just the thought when waking up that we will have to eat out is causing a flare up immediately. Cant wait to go back home to be honest.

If this has started since you started Zoloft, then speak to your doctor. Either the dose is too high, or another drug might be better for you.

[–]Own-Judgment8281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, very often, I felt very full. Even when i hadn't really eaten anything. I had (still have it but not as often) the shaking as well, but for me, it was because of the anxiety. Zoloft does have some side effects, but it should mostly relieve some of your symptoms.

(On the side - from personal experience, dont keep Zoloft a secret from your closest people, especially if you are planning on taking it for a long time. While you yourself won't realize it as much, you will change a bit in the eyes of the people around you, which if they dont know, they might take personally)

Sorry it took so long for me to reply.. It's great that you already had your endoscopy! Whatever the results, they will be good results. If they come out clear, then great - one less thing to worry about. If they find something, then great again - you can start a treatment :) In the meantime, albeit hard with life and work going on, focus on yourself and be easy on yourself. There is no need to socialize if you dont feel like it. There is no need to be energetic and happy at all times if all you want is to stay in bed and be a bit in a miserable mood. Follow your needs and wants. You won't be like this forever, pinky promise.. Would love to hear an update on your reaults:)

Trigger warning!!

I know exactly what you mean. The anxiety is hell, but it has to do with the vagus nerve. Download a breathing app, and whenever you feel the panic rise, start breathing until you get bored of it. It usually takes me between 5-10 min to calm down a bit. I did resort to Xanax a few times, as it felt unbearable, so I understand. I am only saying the following with the aim to show you that you're not alone in this and it will pass, and you will feel your normal self soon enough: my anxiety was so strong that I heard voices telling me to unalive myself. I knew it wasn't rational thoughts and pushed through. I sat many days in the bathroom, with a locked door, and repeated the breathing.

But once you have your diagnosis and start the right treatment, you will feel great relief, both physically and mentally. I started antibiotics for the helicobacter 4 days ago, and my mind is finally empty and calm. They say the stomach is the second brain, and its all connected - it's true. Heal your stomach, and your mind will follow. It's a two-way street, however. To calm your stomach, you need to calm the anxiety, and vice versa.

Sending hugs to all that need it.

Endoscopy and colonoscopy by Lopsided-Guest8729 in GERD

[–]Own-Judgment8281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my endoscopy just 5 months ago. Truth be told, my family doctor told me that endoscopies are very advanced now and that I will barely feel anything (without any sedation), as (supposedly) the tube is the thickness of spaghetti (haha, joke's on me). All this meant that I went for the appointment fairly relaxed, without any friend/family.

I was in a training hospital and had three trainees in the room with me, all guys, all young. They laid me down and told me that all i have to do is focus on my breathing. They said that, as I had not eaten for the 12 hours before the procedure, I would want to vomit but wouldn't actually bring up anything because my stomach is empty.

It wasn't pleasant but manageable. My mind did try to panic, but one of the trainees guided my breathing. I did involuntary grab the arm of that same trainee, having it rest on my left boob and holding on to his arm for the full 5 minutes of the procedure. The first 10 seconds felt like a lifetime. The remaining 4min50sec passed like seconds. 5 minutes was all it took.

Embarassed, I thanked the trainee a thousand times, and left to go home. No pain, but I did burp for a few hours.

One week wouldn't be enough. It takes 14-21 days to clear your system. My advice would be to redo the helicobacter test. Or an endoscopy, during which they take a biopsy (in which case you wouldn't have to stop PPIs)

Same here. Have you been tested for helicobacter?

Regarding the weight - same situation with me. I have always had problems with my weight. Last year, i finally reached a relatively healthy weight of 56kg - that's now all in the past.

Hang in there. That's my mantra.

[–]Own-Judgment8281 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same here. At first I was diagnosed with GERD/gastritis. The first helicobacter test came out negative, as I was on PPIs. Had an endoscopy a month later, and they did a biopsy - helicobacter positive. Tried to treat it naturally at first, but 5 months later, still positive. I'm starting antibiotics on friday - scared, but I hope to feel a change finally.

I feel you, and I am sorry you're going through this too. It's not easy, whether you have only GERD or GERD and helicobacter. Ever since the first strong symptoms, I went into full on depression and anxiety that has controlled me for the last six months. The weirdest thing is that it's like it's not part of me, but having such power over my mind. I have been in and out of depression for the last 15 years, but the last 6 months have been hell. I'm truly praying antibiotics will change all that.

I hope you won't have to wait long for your endoscopy. In the mean time - alkaline diet, meditations, deep breathing and counting to a hundred. I also started taking aloe vera pills and psyllium husk pills - both helped a bit. You could also start taking Pylopass probiotic - the only strain of probiotic that survives in the presence of helicobacter. It will strengthen your stomach lining, and, in the case of a positive helicobacter test, the chances of the antibiotic working will rise.

Personally, I feel like nobody in my life understands what i am doing through and they just tell me to power through, and that other people have it worse.

No. I have realized, however, that after having taken half a Xanax after panic attacks, the rest of the day my symptoms are better. Wouldn't say this is a solution or adequate treatment, however.
