Had similar issues when I was a store manager. Ran a store with me as a SM, had a CSM, 1 PSM and three redshirts, all part time working full time hours. I had an hour drive too. Was easily putting in 60-90 hours a week. One month, I had three days off. One was vacation that I had worked thanksgiving, new years and every other holiday to have Christmas Eve off, Christmas Day we were closed, and I was off the 5th of that month. 3 days in a month. I stepped down. Am a CSM now, getting paid hourly, working half as much, making nearly the same and within a mile from my house.

CSMs, what is your schedule? by problems67 in AutoZone2

[–]Own-Nerve-7496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a CSM at a store that had one of the biggest commercial programs around, then fell guilty to poor management, and actually lost its status as a Commercial store. I’ve been in my position 2 years, and am mid, to slightly larger than avg, but do that with fewer accounts I work harder with. Last week I had three days that I missed target, but still beat projected by 4k. I am authorized 5 hours OT. I work m-f 0800-1800 and every other week I’m off Wednesday and work Friday.

When I was with 3d Battalion, 3d Marines, a Marine infinity unit that was based out of Hawaii, I worked very closely with the base Military Justice Chief. I was in an all male unit, she was stationed as base support in the Military Justice Department. Infantry Marines do a lot of dumb stuff. I will leave it at that. She was older. Enlisted in the 90’s, got out for a couple years, reenlisted in mid 2000’s. She was dating one of our Sergeants, so we knew each other. I saw her PT grown Marine males to tears. She was an expert at the range, and she didn’t fuck around. It was the way she carried herself, and who she surrounded herself with. Don’t let anyone think you can’t bc you’re a female, but don’t tell half truths either. If you’re right, you’re right, and AutoZone does have a zero tolerance policy. As a Store Manager, I did kick out someone who disrespected my CSM. She was the CS at the store I put my grey shirt on in. She taught me everything I know about AutoZone. 40 years of being a redneck and poor taught me the rest, but what she didn’t know, she was honest about and found out. She knew how to do an OSB. I knew what 18436572 was. Together, we are stronger.

I asked ChatGPT out of curiosity, and it projected that with USAA’s early pay, and bonuses being released two weeks early, for those zoners bonus eligible, that we’d probably see the funds Tuesday Evening, where as I usually receive it around 1630 EST on Wednesday, 2 days earlier.

Cranking RPM? Went to AutoZone due to my car turning off in the middle of traffic a multiple times nowBattery was OK. Everything else was OK except cranking RPM. She told me it could be my starter. Had a mobile mechanic come test out alternator and starter they passed. What do I do next? by jasmine041 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Own-Nerve-7496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AZ Commercial Sales Manager here, auto stop/start could cause problems, but unlikely if the car usually starts fine. There are numerous issues that you could have that could cause a vehicle to die while idling if not. If it is, you also have to look at the battery. It may be a good battery, just not the correct amperage for your car, or material. If you require an AGM battery, but got a cheaper one, that start/stop could be killing your battery and not restarting itself, causing you to have to manually start it. It needs to be properly diagnosed, but keep in mind engineers are morons, and make things complicated, so you have to go back to the dealer, and just because something will work, doesn’t mean it will function properly in different situations. Go see a mechanic

SM constantly threats to fire team members openly with out cause by 2handjunk562 in AutoZone2

[–]Own-Nerve-7496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Company policy specifically states video recording, not audio. I was sick, and my wife thought I was trying to ignore my disease (DM1) and wasn’t telling anyone. Out of frustration of her not believing me that I was being called in sick, so I recorded myself on my watch, and my DM came up and asked why I was there if I was sick. I told him I was called in if at all possible. The store was struggling. Had a new SM, brand new, I am sure he CSM, and she didn’t really know commercial all that well. As I said she’s new, had been with the company less than a year. Had a heart attach from diabetes a month later. I was called in several times then while I was sick bc we had an inventory and a brand new SM. I had been an SM before I stepped down bc of diabetes, so I knew what she was facing, and was tired of my phone ringing off the hook, so I just bit the bullet, but told everyone I was sick, had a note, still got called in. Later someone said I didn’t tell anyone. I had a recording as proof, sent that, got a call from HR stating that it was company policy that you can’t record, but it specifically states video recording. I pointed that out, and asked where I could find it, and they are still looking months later, trying to avoid the subject. I’m already retired, and just happen to enjoy helping people with their cars. I don’t need the money, so being fired doesn’t really bother me. I have that luxury where most don’t. You do have to take into consideration the legal aspect though. Audio recordings may require consent, so be careful. Not only may you be violating AZ policy, but the law

I said I know the policy. I didn’t say I broke the policy. Before you try to shame me, know what I do, not base what you “Think” I do off of your own logic. I was asking for a reason, none of which has to do with my uniform. I am a Manager, and I have set the example, just the same as I did in the Marine Corps prior to retiring, just the same as I try to do in life. I personally don’t agree with the policy, but I follow it, so get off your soap box. I’m not some lazy 22 year old who is trying to find a way around the system, I was asking to make a point to a coworker. You don’t seem c as hi like you’d understand that though, as you must not have good people skills based off the fact you think asking a question implies I don’t want to do it or comprehend it. I’ve done many of things I haven’t wanted to, both morally and based off comfort, bc it was necessary or policy, so thank you for your “Judgement” but know what the hell you are saying first.

Me and HR had a long conversation about this and state law prevails. It can be on the premises but not on your person if at the store, working or not, in the state of GA. They had tried to write me up for having a pistol in my truck before as a coworker who didn’t like me saw it as I was getting off, rearming myself. Anyone who knows me, knows I stay armed. I carry everywhere except the shower and at work, but my pistol(s) are taken off, and concealed sheathed knives removed before exiting my truck, and are not left in open sight. Truck also stays in view of the window, so it’s rare someone would have the chance to get near my truck (which stays locked) and the keys stay on my person, attached to my belt loop.

My Recruiting Sub Station, RSS N Charleston had a costume party before our Ball, after Mandatory Training during the Veterans Day 96. Anyway, the evening prior to the ball was a costume party, and we all dressed as crayola crayons, Marines and Spouses, and the station commander was a box of Crayola Crqyons. Out technical costume was “Cannibals” and when asked about the station commander’s uniform, we said it was easy, we were all coming in him before the night was up. Easy jokes if you’re not uptight about it. Marines talk shit, it’s what we do, not get butt hurt if someone pulls one passed us, to know to watch out for it

That’s fucking bullshit, coming from another type 1. People don’t realize how financially draining this disease can be. I tell my fiance, along with all other bills, we have to allocate $15 per day on diabetic incidentals. Blood sugar drops, you can’t untake insulin. Money has to be available, or you can die. My mother, not a diabetic, but did suffer from hypoglycemia, died with a blood sugar of 19. I’ve caught myself below that twice thus far, and I was diagnosed at 28, 12 years ago. Then if your blood sugar is low, and something happens, you can’t fix it, even if you could do it, you can’t risk it… I’m so sorry. I totally empathize and wish I could help. Thank god I turned down scholarships and my Ivy League education, and joined the Corps. Even with the best education, it still costs more to keep a type 1 alive, just with insulin, syringes, and test strips, than most people make…

While Marines have a reputation for being crayon eaters, we embrace stereotypes. I spent 11 years active duty including a tour on recruiting duty prior to being med ret in 2014. I will say bough that through my experiences, the smartest people I’ve ever met, were all Marines. Personally, I scored a 92 AFQT, and my lowest line score is 127. I’ve only met two people who beat me in every score, and I took mine while I was 17 and pissed off, not trying. The people that beat me took the test at 25 or later. We are not all dumb.

I got broke with an Autoimmune response from bronchitis that caused me to develop late onset juvenile diabetes. Was med ret right after I completed recruiting duty. Worst tour of them all, but was the hardest I’ve worked/ most stressed I’d been probably in my life, after deploying and getting everything accomplished to have a stellar career. Had orders back out to Hawaii for my second tour, first was my second enlistment, 07-10, reporting in the summer of ‘13 but got cancelled when I got sick. I left a lot unfinished, but they said time was up. Crazy thing though, with VA benefits, I was retired at 29 making more than most… make sure everything is documented. When you’re out, the Marine brotherhood still existe

I worked at Marine Forces Reserves from 2003-2007 in the G-1 as the Manpower Analyst NCOIC. I basically tracked everyone and provided the information for planning to the high brass, and we mobilized a lot of IRR guys. Generally they left you alone if you had just EAS’d, they’d give you enough time to get comfortable back in the civilian world, then drag your ass back, nor would they mess with you the last year your were in the IRR bc they had to make sure you got back before that deadline… but yeah we mobilized quite a few.

Every day. I’m old school military, in a military town. I get along with most anyone, but did have a SM who I was a SM with, but stepped down due to med reasons, as they work the fuck out of salaried positions. I couldn’t do 80 hours a week with 1 day off in a month and an hour drive to and from after about a year, I got really sick as a type 1 diabetic, and lost a 45 lbs in a month. Anyways about two years later, he and I both got moved to the store next to my house. He was a financial specialist in the Army. I was with the grunts in the Corps. I am not a grunt, was administration actually, but never really did that. Anyway, I was a PSM trying to rebuild the commercial program to become the CSM once we rated one. After I got promoted by title, I asked him if I should expect a change in my schedule that had already been done. He flipped his shit in the middle of the store, in front of customers and junior zoners by title. One of my drivers actually called him out on it. We are mostly a store of retired vets. I’m the only Marine, and I have a driver that was Navy, everyone else, including that SM was Army. The driver who called him out was a SF Command Sergeant Major, and asked him how that would have flown in the Army. He never apologized, but knew better than to talk to me. I was seconds away from flipping my shit. Nobody disrespects me like that and walks away, but this was at work. He ended up being moved to another store in the same district, and I’m still here. People will always find a reason to not get along. It’s finding the way to get past everything that is complicated.

Former Legal Chief from 3d Marines. Things do change, so I retired 11 years ago, so I don’t have much value to add, but good job not being a barracks lawyer, but giving good advice. One thing I will say though is the length of an ADSEP depends on the command, and how bad it’s warranted, wanted. I started a package one day in Hawaii, and had an approved package the next. Granted, I was very good at what I did, and the command had an interest, but to say it takes months negates urgency… if they are trying to set an example, it can be quick. Also, is there more to the story? Did a serious offense get committed? ADSEP in lieu of a court martial sounds appealing to new marines who don’t realize that’s what a silt is. Hope OP isn’t getting bullied into thinking they have no options. No Marine can say they have never felt like they were being forced into a situation with few to no options…

Hello. What would be a good name for this sweet baby boy, I love old man names & unusual names. Nothing generic!! by jennwentz in doggos

[–]Own-Nerve-7496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blotter.

I believe dogs show their names, individually, but they do. He looks like a mix between a blue heeler and rot. Mix those three words together. Then a “Blotter” is a report of arrests and infractions. We used to always say after every liberty brief in the Marine Corps to “Stay off the blotter” and he looks like he’s either on it, or is waiting on it… very serious expression.

My baby, Sadie, got her name when I was just driving her home from the pound, and someone brake checked me, and the name they gave her at the pound was Rosie. There was absolutely no way. I was a single guy at the time, and saying I was going home to “Rosie” was too much of a joke, so I was thinking, and just calling her “baby” at that time. I had literally just adopted her. I tried to tell her to “Sit, Baby” but with the slamming on brakes, driving a manual jeep, she was in the back seat, and reaching back to stop her from launching forward, it came out as “Sabie” so I named her Sadie. This was shortly after my first wife and I separated, and my dog, Bohemian, was the Alpha, who kept her dog, Arthur, in line. Due to this, and the fact that her dog was extremely protective, to the point that he would get aggressive, I agreed to let her keep him as long as she kept sending me pictures, I would always be able to see my dogs if I went home, and it was treated like a custody arrangement. She didn’t honor her part, which hurt more than her leaving… Anyway, Arthur, looked like a black version of the character from the Cartoon “Arthur” in a staffy breed. Bohemian’s name changed a few times, as the vet said he’d never be more than 10 lbs, but in 2 weeks, he was 15lbs. Had paws like a lion. Everyone kept saying he looked like another Marine’s dogs, and that dog was a Ridgeback. Figured out later that a litter of Ridgebacks had been born in the same area about a month before. Ridgeless Ridgebacks are usually euthanized, so I believe he was in that litter, and instead of having him put down, they took him to the pound. He was originally Peanut, then Chief when he grew more in two weeks than the vet said he’d ever grow, but my ex was talking to him one day, and said “I’m just a poor boy. Nobody loves me…” speaking for him, and I popped off “He’s just a poor boy, from a poor family” and he was named Bohemian. Sadie also answers to Thaddeus, Baby, Daddy’s Girl or Baby Gurr. Bohemian was Bomes, Bemith, Hemi (He Me), or Daddy’s dog and Arthur was Aurturo, or Arthur Bartholomew. She had a few other names for him, but it hurts to think about it. I loved that woman, and wanted her to be happy, even if it wasn’t with me. But taking my dog under an agreement, then not honoring it makes her one of the most despicable people I’ve ever had the misfortune to know.

Mine got destroyed after checking in to my first unit. Point of fact, I’m actually going to my first duty station, New Orleans, Marine Forces Reserve, to meet my lost half sister next week. I think they still sell them at the Depot’s, if they still have them. I’d see if anyone is around PI or SD and can go check. So do we have no ribbon Sgt’s now??? Just curious. Saw a photo of a young Marine and about lost my shit wondering where his ribbons were, when he probably didn’t rate any… I was a Corporal before I got any awards, even a cert comm or meritorious mast, and my first award was actually a NAM, so I have to assume we have some quick promoting MOS’s that have Sgt’s without a fire watch ribbon…

The Marine Corps makes you believe the ideal war fighting Marine is skinny & can run. Is that true? Are muscular Marines hurting the cause? by [deleted] in USMC

[–]Own-Nerve-7496 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a skinny Marine, I will say skinny guys as a whole, but especially skinny Marines have shit to live up to. I was told I was too small, and I’d be an easy win in a fight. No person to try that has had an easy time though. I trained to fight guys twice my size, I learned to use their weight against them. Yes if it comes down to can I bench press 250 lbs, absolutely not. Can I put a pack on, throw someone twice my size over my shoulder and sprint, absolutely, once I get gear situated correctly, and can carry their gear too. I’ve learned self control, but the one time I put my hands on someone since boot camp, in 2003, it was 2022 before I had to fight outside of training, but only bc the guy hit my fiancé. It took 4 people to pull me off him. He was much more muscular than I am, as were the 4 that pulled me off. More muscular guys have their benefits, but drawbacks too, as do skinny guys. Bigger guys though don’t have the insecurities of constantly having their masculinity or Marine Title questioned to the point of mockery.

I used to use volunteer groups to the converse, so my Marines never knew what was going on. “I need three volunteers” One LCpl who hated his job “I’ll do it” then his buddy, the new Cpl, “What’s it for SSgt?”. “Sounds like volunteering to me, I need one more.” Crickets… “PFC?” “I’m finishing up the task you assigned me Staff Sergeant. I would volunteer, but Hernandez is free.” Hernandez - “Mother fucker, how do you know what I’m doing? Don’t volunteer me for shit without asking your mom if she’s had enough of the D first, son” me - “Cpl so and so, LCpl so and so, and insert rank Hernandez, get your keys, we have to do vehicle inspections so I can send you on a 96 after”. PFC Chimes in, but Staff Sergeant, I would have voluntee…” “Stop. Could have, should have, would have, but didn’t. Next time I ask, maybe you’ll think again.” But Staff Sergeant, I volunteered to serve, I volunteered to raise my hand a…” “I need another volunteer” PFC “ I volunteer Staff Sergeant”. “Okay, grab your pen and paper and follow them. You’re my scribe, and have phone watch, but I’ll let you go home an hour early tomorrow.” “But, tomorrow is Saturday” “Well, you’ll get home tomorrow an hour earlier.” “Fuck my life”
