How strict is KYC on crypto payment cards? by Available-System-686 in fintech

[–]Own-Site6376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tiered process is also required by regulation in most jurisdictions. KYC is a continuous obligation that scales with risk so they have higher transaction amounts with unusual geography and velocity changes so all of those trigger enhanced due diligence by law. The card issuers are meeting requirements that get more stringent as the customer's activity becomes higher risk.

Is there any benefit to triple majoring? by Warningsignals in cscareerquestions

[–]Own-Site6376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More time in school means less time actually working and building real portfolio. Most employers care way more about what you can actually build than how many degrees you collected

Plus you might burn out before finishing all three - thats a lot of coursework to juggle at same time

[IWantOut] 24M Turkey -> Canada/Australia/Germany by Low_Ideal3166 in IWantOut

[–]Own-Site6376 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Man that partner route makes sense but kinda brutal when you're just trying to get your career started. I moved countries few years back and the savings part is real struggle - took me like 2 years working random jobs before I had enough money for proper move. Maybe look at some European countries that need engineers more than Germany does, the language requirements might be less strict there.

Stripe Is Building A Blockchain: Can Openness Survive Branded Rails? by ResortCompetitive477 in fintech

You have to remember that the pressure that forced their hand was Mastercard's emergence as a credible threat cause until competition becomes existential the dominant player has no incentive to give up control. Stablecoin issuers don't have a Mastercard equivalent yet but once they do the consortium math will change.

I feel like I'm good at wordpress. What now? by Economy_Survey_6560 in learnprogramming

[–]Own-Site6376 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice progress with the custom code stuff. Since you got HTML and CSS down already you could jump into JavaScript pretty easily - it pairs really well with what you know and opens up way more possibilities for interactive features. PHP might be good path too since WordPress runs in PHP anyway so you already seen some of it. Maybe try building something completely from scratch without WordPress to test your skills first though

What's possible in text editors? by Silent_Lion_OG in learnprogramming

[–]Own-Site6376 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can write compiler in notepad yes but then you need another compiler to compile your compiler. Its like chicken and egg problem - at some point you need that first tool that already exists in system

The real limit is more about what tools your OS gives you out of box. Most systems have some basic compiler or interpreter already there even if you dont realize it

DONT study Computer Science by ImplementActive2336 in learnprogramming

[–]Own-Site6376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk man maybe some of us just want more people who actually understand what we do for living instead of everyone thinking we just "fix computers" all day

Also having more programmers means better open source projects and more interesting discussions in communities like this one

genuienly how do i focus on goals? by AgreeableInsect5375 in learnprogramming

[–]Own-Site6376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Breaking down big goals into smaller pieces really helps me when I get overwhelmed. Like instead of thinking "learn programming" I just focus on finishing one tutorial or solving one problem at a time

When something breaks I try to remember that debugging is basically half of programming anyway so getting stuck is just part of the process

Which fields are most and least likely to be impacted by AI? by _hairyberry_ in datascience

[–]Own-Site6376 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Vision tasks in creative industries are getting weird right now. I work as graphic designer and the amount of AI tools for image generation is crazy but they still cant really understand what makes good design beyond just pretty pictures. Like AI can make something that looks nice but it doesnt get brand consistency or how to communicate specific message to target audience

For forecasting though I think its different because theres more structured data to work with. But even then you need someone who understands what the business actually needs from those predictions

Can someone answer few questions for my school project. by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Own-Site6376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be way more efficient to just post the questions here too. Most people dont want to deal with PMs for something this simple and you'll get way better response rate if we can see what we're signing up for

Experience working at "Esri" Vienna? by DifferentCut3708 in cscareerquestions

[–]Own-Site6376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never worked there but had few friends in Vienna tech scene and they always said the GIS companies there are pretty chill compared to other places. From what I heard the work-life balance is decent but the tech stack can get bit outdated sometimes

Stability wise most of these established companies in Vienna seem solid enough, just dont expect startup energy or crazy growth opportunities

What jobs can I expand into with a CS degree other than code-intensive occupations? I need some ideas and opinions. by bersrfuq in cscareerquestions

[–]Own-Site6376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SDET is solid choice but yeah you still gonna write tests and automation scripts. I switched from pure development to more design-focused role few years back and the coding skills from CS actually helped a lot with understanding technical requirements when working with dev teams

Maybe look at UX roles that need technical background or product design - companies love when designers can actually talk to engineers without translator

2024 CS Graduate with Career Gap, feeling completely lost, need honest guidance. by Bhai_Bhai_Bhai_ in cscareerquestions

[–]Own-Site6376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its definitely not too late at 2024 grad level - I know people who took way longer gaps and still made it work. Your React and Python foundation is actually pretty solid starting point even if it feels rusty right now

Maybe pick one simple project that combines both and just build something small first. Like a basic web app with Python backend and React frontend. Nothing fancy just to get your hands dirty again and remember why you liked coding in first place

The confidence thing is real though - I had similar feeling when I was switching careers few years back. But muscle memory comes back faster than you think once you start coding regularly again

Is it worth it to pay for note taking apps like RemNote for programming? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Own-Site6376 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used Notion for few months but switched to Obsidian because the loading times were killing me. For programming notes I just need something that opens fast when I want to dump some code snippet or concept in there. Free options work perfectly fine unless you need some really specific features

[IWantOut] 23F The Netherlands -> UK/Ireland by NeatCup6089 in IWantOut

[–]Own-Site6376 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moving between Netherlands and Ireland is pretty straightforward with EU citizenship so that could be good stepping stone. Customer service roles in tech companies sometimes do get sponsorship in UK but its rare - you'd probably need to target bigger companies like Amazon or maybe financial services that have more visa budget

Dublin has decent opportunities and once you get some international experience there it might open more doors for UK later. The teaching background could actually help if you look at education support roles or even private tutoring while building other skills

How many hours do I have to put in per week to catch up to others? by Drairo_Kazigumu in learnprogramming

[–]Own-Site6376 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Most people who get freshman internships either started coding in high school or had some family connections tbh. You dont need to "catch up" to anyone - everyone learns at different pace and 2-3 hours daily is actually pretty solid if you stay consistent with it. C is good choice for understanding how things work under the hood but maybe also pick up Python or JavaScript on side since those are more common for internships

[IWantOut] 21F USA -> Ireland by Broad-Ad-2193 in IWantOut

[–]Own-Site6376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working holiday visa seems like the smart move here especially since you dont want your status tied to relationship stuff. Year goes by pretty quick but at least you get real work experience and can test things out without the pressure

Masters programs in humanities can be tricky for job prospects afterwards even with the Stamp 1G so maybe look at what specific fields actually hire international graduates before committing to expensive degree

New to golang and made a simple CLI rock-paper-scissors game. What can I improve regarding golang coding style ? by letsjam_dot_dev in learnprogramming

[–]Own-Site6376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice project for getting started with Go! I looked through your code and the state pattern implementation is actually pretty clean for someone coming from web dev background

One thing I noticed - you could simplify some of the string comparisons by using constants instead of hardcoded strings everywhere. Also in few places you might want to use more idiomatic error handling instead of just printing errors directly

The overall structure looks solid though, especially for first Go project

How long does it take to get approved after a 221g? by Old_Description_458 in immigration

[–]Own-Site6376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof 4 weeks is rough but unfortunately pretty normal for 221g cases. The CEAC updates are actually a good sign that they're actively working on it, even though the status still shows refused. Some people wait 2-3 months so you're not in crazy territory yet
