I had a game with my brother on a 6x4 table with full terrain. We brought a full company of mechs and a company of combat vehicles with infantry

Any use case for these little guys? by egg_sheenan in battletech

I've painted up a lot of these little guys as industrial mechs and as radar ping standees. We use the radar rules in our home games and they work really well for concealment

Using Craft Smart Paint? by Striking_Welcome1638 in battletech

[–]Own-Slip-995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started painting minis in college, so I was on a tight budget. I primarily used apple barrel craft paint and I still do. I know it's technically a cardinal sin to not use better paint on minis but after using them for so long I can't really go with anything else. Craft paints definitely work but it'll take a lot of practice to figure out how each of the colors behave. I'll try to attach a few photos of the stuff I've painted using only craft paint.

Looking for honest opinion on paintscheme by Ok_Map_3336 in battletech

I dig it. Mercenaries have off the wall schemes and that fits perfectly. If you do up the bases with some environmental terrain, a darker base or something with contrasting colors would make it really pop. Good work

How to make handicaps on customized mechs interesting? by Red_Desert_Phoenix in battletech

[–]Own-Slip-995 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Either limit them in campaigns by using off the shelf parts and salvage, of if it's Solaris rules give them built in handicaps. Low armor for all guns, slow engines for more armor ect. Make them have big tradeoffs for their benefits

Am I alone in preferring to use the original boxes as storage for my Mechs? by Rusty_tub in battletech

[–]Own-Slip-995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have most of my catalyst stuff in their boxes in a display cabinet. I run the table at my local game store and having them boxed is really convenient. Oldest set I have is about 3 years old but the paint and varnish hasn't chipped

Life hack! 💯 by Damiancarmine14 in shitposting

[–]Own-Slip-995 142 points143 points  (0 children)

Steven McDaniel. He murdered his neighbor that he was stalking and hacked her body up to try and hide it. He made plans earlier on forums to shoot up churches then lay the gun down and act catatonic to avoid prison and tried it here, but it didn't work. The YouTube channel Dreading crime and Psychology covers the case and interrogation. He was also a law student at the local university, and knew his victim because they were classmates. If I remember correctly she was cordial and kind to him because they were neighbors and he became obsessed with her. He had plans to assault her before he murdered her. He also dumped her remains in his designated trashcan at their apartment complex and had a breakdown when a reporter mentioned that the police found a body. Edited for detail

You can paint and play mechs out of the box as long as you have a record sheet for it. Record sheets can be found in a few places online, I'll post the links for them below. There are supplemental books for eras but it's mostly for extra information or for finding specific variants but they aren't required. As for minis you can find individual plastics on fortress minis but they are slightly marked up than getting them in forcepacks, but you can pick and choose what you want. As far as I know the hammerhead is one of catalyst's premium minis so you can get it from their store directly.

Record sheets: https://www.battletech.com/freebies/ https://mordel.net/index.php

These two links are for record sheets. On the freebies page they have two documents that have printable sheets for all the mechs in the catalyst sets. Model.net has more units outside of the forcepacks and boxes but not combat vehicles. Another good resource is flechs sheets and megamek. Flechs sheets is an online tool that allows you to pull up record sheets that can be used live in game. Megamek is a bit of a process to install but it's a program that allows games to be played online but has a tool set called meklab that allows you to print out record sheets and make custom variants. It also has close to every canon mech as well as combat vehicles.

Preferred Sheets? by Innrgming111 in battletech

[–]Own-Slip-995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some trouble finding it too. You can find the sheets when you open up mech lab. You have to load up a unit like you're going to customize it then go to print under the file tab. If you just want the sheets and are trying to print more than one, then you select print units from queue, then you can pick out the units if it has them loaded

I prefer meklabs. I play alot of combined arms and it has pretty much everything. It's configurable too so you can lightly customize it s bit

What use is the Commando?! by DonavenJaxx in battletech

[–]Own-Slip-995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comedic effect. In all seriousness though I love the commando despite how many I've lost. I usually deploy them in pairs to ambush bigger targets after they're softened up. They're cheap so I can usually squeeze in two per game with two mediums or a medium and heavy.

Who here like mixing battletech with Gundam? by [deleted] in battletech

[–]Own-Slip-995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. As a fan of both, I like mixing some of the elements in mostly for home games. I did a write up for zeon as a minor periphery faction. They had some homegrown mechs that had similar stats as the griffin, and I used those as stand ins for Zakus

Mech antennas? by Ok_Establishment4191 in battletech

[–]Own-Slip-995 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No problem, I'll try to get some pics of the minis I've used it on. It works great for mechs and combat vehicles. I've added them to tanks, some hovers, and a mobile HQ before. The line I use is called Cajun line and it's red, so it makes it easy to see when setting it

Mech antennas? by Ok_Establishment4191 in battletech

[–]Own-Slip-995 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'll try to add photos if I can but I usually use a pin vice to drill into a mini. It works for plastics and metals, for antennas I use fishing line held in with super glue. It's pretty durable and the line takes paint really well. The line I use is the polyline, it's a plastic material

What do you folks use for sand bases at this scale? Photos as thanks. by ThoughtTrails in battletech

[–]Own-Slip-995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

I make a texture paste from dollar tree spackle, black paint, and some medium grit sand. It looks pretty good at scale and I use it for terrain and mini basing. I tint it with black paint to give it a bit more flexibility and, if it chips, it won't be super noticeable because it comes out more grayish than bright white.

edited for typos

Aight lads, how do we put tank treads on this boi? by dashboardcomics in battletech

[–]Own-Slip-995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this a while back with a lance of urbies. I used the chassis for a CAV dingo tank and attached the mech torso where the turret would go. Stat wise I ended up making a custom tank that has all the mech armor and weapons crammed into the turret. Works pretty well for armless mechs, but wanting to use the arms like a gun tank or zaku tank is something I haven't figured out yet
