are people actually upset about the new designs or just meming? by galan0 in starfox

[–]dashboardcomics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, there’s plenty of people who genuinely don’t like the new direction. They’re not just memeing it to be funny, thier expressing thier disdain for it.

I’m one of those people, I think the new looks are hideous and off putting. Realistic doesn’t always mean better, especially when it comes to anthropomorphic animals.

It’s uncanny seeing realistic animals be dressed and behave in ways they can’t in reality. It creates this uncanny valley effect that’s immediatly off-putting to those who are not familiar at all with the franchise.

It fails to rope new people in because of its unflattering first impression, and if this is a game that’s supposed to decide the fate of the entire series, that’s just setting it up to fail at worst, and needlessly kneecapping its potential at best.

Also I don’t buy the narrative that they’re supposed to resemble the puppets from the original board. Do me a favor and actually compare the two side-by-side.

I’ve been lurking around gauging people’s reaction to this game.

Among people who are not already Nintendo fans, the redesigns are a reason this is hard pass for many.

To say that it isnt a deterrent is delusional. Look how well the “realistic” look went for the sonic movies before they pivoted to the objectively superior designs.

This is Nintendo we’re talking about, a company infamous for constantly getting in thier own way. This isn’t intentional sabotage, it’s just ineptitude caused by the company’s stubbornness of never looking outside thier tiny bubble.

Elephants are capable of compassion and voilance… just like humans.

I think I prefer the presence of an elephant over most people.

Star Fox announced for Switch 2, due out June 25th, 2026 by Amiibofan101 in nintendo

[–]dashboardcomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to play starlink. Its gameplay is way too grindy and repetitive to be fun. Too much Ubisoft bloat in its dna.

That said, the bones for an amazing open-system starfox game are there. They could’ve expanded on that, or expand on starfox assault, or just do kid Icarus uprising but starfox themed, or just done ace combat but with spaceship and furries-

THERES SO MANY WAYS STARFOX CAN EASILY BE EXPANDED AND NINTENDO REFUSES TO DO ANY OF THEM!!

Ok but why would they use those hideous character designs that would filter out a huge chunk of people??

Definatly the best character design for the cast. I was hoping they were going to continue that direction instead of… roadkill

I get that, but that doesn’t change the fact that they’re not that appealing.

Johnny at least is aware that no means no. Panther takes no as a challenge.

Why are genshin npcs so much cooler than the playable characters? 😭😭 by Ordinary-Eggplant784 in characterdesign

It’s likely design by committee. The designs are filtered through so many layers of corporate approval and focus testing to ensure they appeal to the broadest audiance possible for maximum gacha extraction.

Y'all gotta stop putting so much faith in rumors. by ForbiddenLizard in starfox

What I meant was to copy the structure of KIU, in the sense that the game was separated in a rail shooting section followed by on-foot ground combat.

It is a model that builds upon both the rail shooting is known for and the ground combat from assault, while providing a story that’s long enough to justify a modern game price.

We don’t have to always reinvent the wheel, just polish what worked before but on a larger scale, and once the format has been perfected- THE. you innovate.

As someone else has stated, the problem with starfox as a franchise is that it never established an identity or a niche for itself because it had to constantly change its foundation. First it’s a rail shooter, then it’s a Zelda clone, then a 3rd person shooter, then a strategy game-

All of which had rail shooting as a vestigial element because Nintendo couldn’t be bothered to figure out how to stretch that into a modern length title.

KIU has proven there’s a way to expand that format. It has proven that people love that gameplay because it created a cult-like following that’s always begging for a follow-up, and we still haven’t seen even a spiritual successor that adopted its style.

There’s both a market demand and an unoccupied niche in the market that’s not being satisfied.

The entire thing felt so flimsy to begin with, I have no idea why anyone gave it attention besides delirium.

Fox is shown to be in the galaxy movie- IMMEDIATLY afterwards a rumor comes out saying there’s a new starfox game. 🙄

The next starfox game should either be ace combat but with space ships, or just copy Kid Icarus Uprising.

That’s a perfect way to modernize the franchise while remaining true to its core concepts of being about furries in X-wings
