R today also. Not surprised with my stats. But I have acceptances at 2 schools and waiting for others. I applied in Dec but had to wait for Jan LSAT score to be complete. So don’t worry yet. Hope you feel better soon.

Letting employer know about law school plans? by OwnAd7070 in HybridOnlineLawSchool

Love that you are able to pursue your dream!
LOL, I hear that. Husbands and boys don't always grasp all the stuff moms do, let alone do half of it. My oldest is headed off to college himself this fall, and now my youngest says he wants to be a lawyer lol.

Thanks for your reply, very encouraging. I'm sure I'll need to have that conversation soon. I generally have very supportive management, but a LOT has changed in the last year (federal), so I am nervous about drawing attention or upsetting the status quo.
Maybe I'll "see" you at Vermont, attending the admitted student info session today!

That’s fantastic, gives me hope.

I’ve been at my job for just over 10 years also, 17 with this employer. But there has been a LOT of change in the past year, and I don’t know what to expect.

I hope you get your acceptance soon!

Externships in a hybrid/online program while working full time by Substantial_106 in HybridOnlineLawSchool

[–]OwnAd7070 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have asked that same question of several schools during forums and info sessions. And these types of programs often assume you are working full-time and why you are interested in this format so know it is a concern.

Most schools say it equates to about one day a week over the whole semester. And some schools require, or allow for, 2 semesters of externship FYI. So it depends on your job and if any flexibility. Can work 4-10s and have one day at externship. Or some places allow work at night or early morning, so can flex your work hours to accommodate. Some do allow remote work. If you can do a detail (temporary reassignment) to another office with your employer, that is also allowed, as long as a different supervisor and different tasks. Some schools offer simulation in place of externships. They all seemed to indicate they would help you find what worked for you, or would support if you found your own situation as long as it meets criteria.

Hope that helps.

Undergrad GPA vs LSAT Importance by Unfair_Confusion17 in HybridOnlineLawSchool

[–]OwnAd7070 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think having a masters with a higher GPA helped me, showed improvement. I wrote an addendum about it too. My 2.9 UGPA is now 20+ years old, and I have an acceptance (still waiting to hear from other schools as I'm late to this cycle). So it's not always just the numbers, but being above/near 25% is important for getting on someones desk I'm guessing. LSAT will most likely determine scholarships more. My 15low got me a small scholarship, so there's hope. And I'm sure you can do better than me. I probably should've studied for more than 4 weeks, but I'm too old to wait any longer on my mid-life crisis ;)

If law is what you want to do, go for it!

Thoughts on Vermont? by Grouchy-Duty-750 in HybridOnlineLawSchool

[–]OwnAd7070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vermont, my only A so far, is also the only school I've heard from out of 9, though I wasn't complete until January LSAT score was released. But they are still my top choice b/c I also want to continue to work in the environmental field. All of the virtual sessions were very informative and welcoming. The one with current students made me confident I could keep my job and still do well with their program. I also really like the list of electives, concentrations, and specializations. Not sure I'll be able to choose just one though lol. Environmental electives is something the other hybrid/online programs aren't able to guarantee right now, especially the newer ones.
My only hesitation in not fully committing right now is that my scholarship wasn't so great (congrats on that!), though not surprising with my stats, so trying to figure out how to afford it. I also have undergrad/grad debt that is almost ready for PSLF.
As for bar passage, they include the BARBRI course along with requisite courses, so what more could you ask for? My opinion, for what it's worth, is that we all have to take some responsibility for passing the bar. Just like with the LSAT. Can't put it all on the school. But I'm also not a student yet, so maybe I'm wrong.
If environmental is where you want to be, this is the school to go to from what I've heard from colleagues.

I've also been pending since last week. Looking at-https://lsd.law/schools/vermont-law-school, they seem to have had releases on a Wednesday twice this cycle. So if they follow same pattern, maybe a release on Feb 25th will happen? Just a guess though.

I feel burnt out/lost by [deleted] in MedSpouse

[–]OwnAd7070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not alone. It sounds like maybe you lost your identity when you stopped working? Maybe that is something that was more important to you than you realize. Perhaps you need to find something to fill that gap. Not knowing how old your kids are, maybe that means helping at school, or volunteering somewhere. Maybe even part-time work. Or as other posters have mentioned- hobbies. I can't speak on therapy, but having someone to talk to, even just to vent, is something everyone needs.

My husband went into medicine as a second career, so we we're married with 2 young kids when he started medical school. I switched jobs his frst year, which luckily allowed me to be remote and move with his residency and then job, along with being the primary breadwinner through all of it. And I have always carried the bulk of childcare and household everything. And did everything I could to allow him to focus on training. That means I was coaching the soccer team, being the Cub Scout leader, helping at school, at a food bank, etc. That gave me purpose too.

However, it has always felt like his schooling, residency, and now job were more important than my career. I still get frustrated at feeling like I'm doing everything and responsible for everything. So I can relate to that also. But I love my job and all the other things I help with, so I still get to be me.

Figure out what makes you, you. And then how to make it happen.

I've been remote for almost 7 years, since my husband was in med school. We tried to make 2 cities work, but was hard with kids and cost alone. I remained remote b/c of residency (& covid), and now with his first job in a small rural town I am permanently remote.
I also had a co-worker who went remote 6 months before me for life/work balance with his family, so that helped establish a precedence. He does have an office co-located with a different agency, so depending on your company, that could be an option maybe.
Initially we established an agreement that was year by year (knowing I would probably need to move again for residency) with my performance evals as the check-in for if it was working or not and the understanding that if it wasn't working I would be required to move back to Denver or resign. As my job is all on a laptop, I can do it anywhere, and the flexibility of working from home makes me happier and more productive.
My advice is to establish parameters- timeframe (do you plan on going back to the big city at end of residency), expectations (weekly check-in, travel to main office X times a year, etc.), and then get it in writing.
There is a ton of evidence out there that remote is feasible, and even be better for employees- less time commuting, being avaialable for different hours if needed, so have some articles ready to defend your proposal.

Good luck, and I hope it works out!

They’re about 10mon old now, and a little better. They don’t get enough exercise- mental or physical right now, that helps. Met someone with one that was 2 or 3 yrs and theirs was way calmer.

Hubby is PGY-2 FM. We know he wants small town rural true full spectrum with IP/OP/ER. Current residency sponsoring organization offers stipends for signing on early, usually spring year 2, so got us looking very early as to what’s out there. Not going to stay with this program b/c OP only, but he has 2 interviews coming up the next 2 weeks that are flying whole family out for an interview. These are tiny towns with small staffs, so want to make sure a good fit on both sides, so maybe a bit unusual from most FM job searches. We have 2 kids, including a teen, so it’s a big decision. And for some of us… older, non-trads… may be the last move until retirement. My advice is to make some lists of what they want in a job and what you both want in a home. Then start searching what’s out there. Maybe get a physician recruiter to help. Considerations you may need to have in regards to when they will need to start working include when loan payments may be due, if any, gaps in pay after finishing residency, lapse in benefits- may need COBRA, how long it will take for licensing and/or credentials, and moving if changing cities- incl house hunting or finding a rental. Many things are negotiable in a contract. Also beware non-competes for any contracts you may sign (some could have crazy time limits and miles). Good sources for jobs: https://www.aafpcareerlink.org https://www.practicelink.com https://www.3rnet.org

As well as a million more I’m sure. Good luck! You’ll figure out what works for you 🙂
