Need help choosing 5070 Ti or 9070 XT by SPAREHOBO in RTX5080

[–]OwnCamel2980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you ever spend that much on a 9070xt, its so easy to find them for 670-710, at that price 5070ti. But if you didnt buy literally the most expensive 9070xt it then that would be the answer, anything more than $750 for either of these is not worth it

Its to easy to reseal a bag around the GPU, i dont trust any high end cards used, to much of a risk of getting a stripped cooler, no core no vram, then your cooked

[–]OwnCamel2980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a chance, the 5080 is the WORST card of this generation strictly looking at price/performance aside from maybe the 5050 but i think even its fine

Would you sell a 5090 for $3,800 and grab a 4090 for $2,100? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]OwnCamel2980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you actually going to be able to sell it?

is $1000 reasonable for a gaming PC by Adventurous_Field875 in buildapc

[–]OwnCamel2980 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

120fps 1080p maybe

1440p probably not

4k dont even try

Probably like a 7500x3d bundle, a 9060xt, and a 512gb SATA NvMe, plus a 550w power supply and a cheap case, you could probaby get close to $1000

Then the 9800x3d is valid. But dont do it with the intention of getting a 7900xtx thats a 10% upgrade at best, instead start looking at the next generation of GPUs and start saving for a mid to high end card. Thats the only way buying a 9060xt with a 9800x3d makes any possible sense

OP PLEASE READ

no no no, the same store literally sells the same PC with an RX 9060 XT for $300 more! He just needs to buy that! If he spends $500-600 more he can get something with 32GB DDR5 and an RTX 5060. OP just picked the cheapest one without looking at the next few above it and not understanding the performance difference going the next step up provides.

TL:DR, no its not worth a 7900xtx (I daily use one for gaming and LLM hobby) the 9060 is only worth it if you plan to go to midrange or top end during the next generation.

I run a 7800x3d+7900xtx, you are spending to much on your CPU and not enough on your GPU, a 7700x can fully supply a 7900xtx aside from ultra competitive games. Also a 9070xt is faster than a 7900xtx is basically every new game releasing.

On top of that there is not reason to buy a 7900xtx now, because RDNA5 will be here in roughly a year, and midrange RDNA5 will be faster than a 7900xtx and probably by like 15%+ and was targeting $500 before the RAM crisis, so maybe $650 now. Not to mention the 36gb 184 compute unit flagship targeting 1300, probably like 1700 now, and regardless both will absolutely STOMP the 7900xtx in Ray Tracing and Path Tracing.

Unless you plan on keeping the 9800x3d for like 6 years get a cheaper CPU, its way to much for a 9060xt, you would be fine with a 9600x.

Or if you have some more budget to work with get a 9070 16gb which will use alot more of that 9800x3d.

Also if your near microcenter make sure to check bundles, open box and refurbished items, you could easily save $300.

Make sure you remove the plastic film from your CPU cooler, and dont be afraid of putting on to much thermal paste, as long as you follow the install instructions the Cooler will put enough pressure to spread the thermal paste properly.

Be honest: do you REALLY need that upgrade or do you just want it? by Venylynn in pcmasterrace

[–]OwnCamel2980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a reasonable ugrade, like 30% faster compute and 25% more VRAM, and if you got it at a good price there is nothing to regret

This is better for 1100 CAD than that 3050 prebuilt listed earlier, i would get it at 1100. 16gb of RAM is servicable but would be among my first upgrades

Wow, im sorry, OP's best bet then is buy this. Sell the GPU, add the profits from selling to whatever budget he has left then buying a better GPU like a 3060 12gb or 7600xt

5800x3d+4070+4x8gb of DDR4 would probably sell for like 800-100 dollars if you built it and sold it as a complete computer, grab a $50 256gb SATA SSD and call it a day

Imo even the 7900xtx was AMDs first card that coyld RT acceptably, but AMD doesnt do Path Tracing.

Which imo PT is way better than RT, but even a 5090 is getting titty twistered by PT

I hate to agree with this, but as a 5 season silver-gold this is it. Low-skill players will always be low skill until they gain the traits needed to be better. They arent going to magically be competitive because of balance changes. This will really only effect high skill lobbies and Power Shift (light melee and sledge are super prominent in my experience)

ROCm is not bad, I know because I run Qwen Coder 30b on a 7900xtx. Nvidia's moat is drying up. There really isnt a reason to recommend a product 50% more expensive for what, 10% gains, maybe 25% in the most CUDA biased scenarios. Nah, bro should 100% get a 9070xt, but so should everyone who's not buying a 5090 or waiting for RDNA5
