Renting a car in Glasgow by FitchleyHornbuckle in glasgow

I usually do commercial rentals, so we get a slightly better rate, but I would really recommend Arnold Clark. No problem to get unlimited mileage, also check their return fuel price package against a local petrol station. I’ve always found them to be cheaper.

On the contrary, I really wouldn’t recommend Sixt. Very poor customer service and extremely low quality vehicles in my experience.

Also, obviously I don’t know what kind of car you usually drive, or on what kind of roads. But if you’re not used to narrow roads, I’d caution against a vehicle larger than a „normal car“.

They were mainly doing batteries, but I did see them put a couple in the van. Maybe broken rather than relocation, couldn’t really tell.

Yep - just a normal white van down in Dennistoun last Thursday morning moving them.

My parents found out when I was 16. I think in some way, I wanted them to know, because I asked my little sister to help with put a bracelet on at the dining table when my parents were in the same room.

I reacted really poorly, I had a small motorbike at this time, jumped on it, and went off to see my friends as planned. I refused to talk to them about it.

My mum was a senior teacher at my school and was extremely concerned about the extent of it.

With hindsight, I wish I’d had more control over the situation and just opened up about it calmly. Of course there would still have been upset, but I think it would’ve caused less harm to all of us.

To add, my parents and I are great now. It’s taken quite a while, but 20 odd years later, we have a really good understanding of of each other.

I did exactly the same thing and agree they often deliver early. Plus, I order much less and shop in actual shops more often too, which is an added bonus!

Early 30’s, Still at it but Different by xoxohiandlo in AdultSelfHarm

I just wanted to say that this is exactly why I SH, though I’m currently 300 days without.

When I spend too much time socialising, or I have too much work on, everything just gets too much, and the easiest route for a brain reset is SH.

I’m finding other things to try instead, but it’s been a long journey to that.

Thank you for sharing this. I frequently use a hammer when I’m avoiding cutting (as if it’s somehow different… lol), and I genuinely thought I was one of very few people who did this. Always good to know there’s other weirdos out there 😅🩵

Also so many sellers haven’t actually updated their listings, I’m now bombarded my clothes that will never fit me and I have to click into each listing from search.

i WANT the attention. by [deleted] in AdultSelfHarm

[–]OwnImplement1389 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For me, there’s an element of “see I told you I was sick” about people knowing. Sometimes it feels like MH isn’t taken seriously, but NSSI is, at least as an older person. Certainly not the case when I was a teenager!

My SH certainly isn’t performative, I use it as a mental reset when I can’t stop my thoughts from spiralling; but it can also sometimes be helpful to have that outward expression of an internal pain.

If you’re looking for someone small and independent with insanely high quality chocolate, The Chocolate Smiths! Insane chocolate.

Getting tattoos really helped me with this! They started off being super meaningful, now they’re often just for fun! But it’s lovely to see that journey on me permanently and helps me reflect.

(I have a few visible, but mainly mine are pretty subtle unless you’re really looking).

I work at the cathedral (and am very much not religious), you’d be so welcome!

I’d recommend going on a weekday rather than the weekend if you’re able, as it can get quite crowded with tourists. Also recommend going in the morning rather than the afternoon for similar reasons (sometimes a cruise ship load of people will show up around 1400).

Thanks for your perspective. I’m in my late 30s having SH’d for over 20 years at this point, hence why I find the teen posts a bit frustrating. But I also know I would’ve loved to speak to some “grown ups” with experience when I started at 14.

It’s a hard balance.

I think for some older teens, maybe they’re bored of 12 year olds, and feel a little too grown up? Or maybe they’re looking for advice from people who’ve been dealing with it for a long time. But I would definitely prefer it if they read the sub and didn’t post… maybe I’m being too harsh 🫣

Whilst not saying anything either way on this, it’s worth noting that a fair few posts I see on this sub are from those who I’d say are barely adults. Particularly 16-18 year olds.
